Yesterday, I may have been on the verge of heatstroke... I set out on my bike in search of a new curry restaurant, but in a small town like this, it was unlikely to find one easily. I gave up on Futamata Onsen and continued up the old Route 5, passing by Indian restaurants, steak houses, and cafes. I thought about giving up on curry and settling for shrimp tempura udon at my regular spot, "Yoshidaya," but due to the heat, my judgment was clouded and I was drawn in by a sign for "cold udon" at the next store. Finally, I found some relief from the heat. I was seated at the counter and when I looked at the menu, I noticed that curry dominated an entire page. There were four types of curry udon and three types of curry rice. This is the first time I've encountered a restaurant in Fukuoka that is so focused on curry udon. That's right, it was curry, so I ordered the "meat and burdock curry udon." The waitress informed me that water and other items were self-service. As I went to get them, I found cucumber pickles, macaroni salad, and bonito flakes that had been used to make dashi stock. It seemed like they were trying to get customers who came for noodles to eat even more noodles... When the udon arrived after I returned to my seat, I took my first sip of the soup and found it to be rich and spicy with a sharp flavor. It was quite delicious, but the spice blend seemed familiar from somewhere. However, it was still tasty. The noodles were quite flat, similar to flat noodles. At first, I thought the portion was small, but as I dug deeper into the curry, I found a decent amount. The burdock tempura had a crunchy texture with pieces cut into 5mm cubes. The meat was thinly sliced with a sweet seasoning, but I think it would have been better without the onsen egg. However, the price of 1,180 yen seemed a bit steep. It would be better if customers could choose to exclude the onsen egg and burdock tempura and pay 890 yen instead. Nevertheless, I believe there is value in trying this well-crafted curry udon.

I stopped by at Oomoto-san on the way back from golf practice with my friend. We ordered the ultimate pork cutlet rice bowl with udon (small) and chicken tempura on rice. The dishes arrived in about 5 minutes. First of all, the ultimate pork cutlet rice bowl looked amazing with a thick cutlet sitting on top of the egg-covered rice. The cutlet was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, and tasted delicious with the sweet sauce or rock salt. The chicken tempura on rice was also very tasty, with crispy tempura on chewy udon noodles. This restaurant has limited parking space, so I recommend visiting at off-peak hours. Both the udon and the cutlet were really delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Udon Udon in capital letters Today, I had a meeting with JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) and then went for lunch. I decided to have udon since it's lunchtime. I was a bit indecisive, but ended up choosing the most popular option, curry udon. Personally, I'm not a fan of hot spring eggs, so I was glad I could have it without. The self-service corner had macaroni, pickled cucumbers, and bonito flakes for unlimited servings. The curry udon came with ginger, as always. I also heard that the katsudon is famous and I would like to try it sometime. So, I chose curry udon with toppings like hot spring egg, green onions, fried onions, meat, and burdock tempura for 1180 yen. They also brought spices so you can adjust the spiciness to your liking. The crispy burdock tempura was great, and the meat had a rich flavor. The fried onions added a nice touch. The rice complemented the curry well. Before a meeting in Fukuoka, I stopped by here and had a late lunch around 3 pm. There were no other customers at that time, so I sat at an empty table. I ordered the "Gobo Tempura Udon" that I didn't get to try at a famous udon shop in Saga the other day. While waiting, I helped myself to pickles and other side dishes. When the udon arrived, I dipped the tempura in the broth and enjoyed the noodles. It was delicious. If I have the chance to visit again, I might come back.

I went to the restaurant because there was a PayPay coupon! The dashi that Akira Okazawa praised was amazing! The katsudon, which multiple media outlets had reported on, was tender and delicious with a strong dashi flavor! It seems like there will be coupons available until September, so if you haven't tried it yet, be sure to do so!

I heard from someone and decided to try the thick cutlet bowl that caught my attention! It was huge! I couldn't finish it all, so my husband helped me out. Despite being thick, the cutlet was tender and delicious. I prefer this amount of sauce for my cutlet bowl, but my husband likes it with a bit more sauce!

This is a local, down-to-earth udon restaurant beloved by the community. This time, I ordered the Niku Gobo Tempura Soba, and during the campaign period, they offered to exchange the udon noodles for soba noodles for free instead of the usual additional 50 yen. The cucumber pickles and simmered bonito flakes in broth served as a side dish were delicious and went well with the meal. 😊

I visited a udon restaurant that I was curious about. I arrived around 8 PM, so the restaurant was not crowded and we were seated right away. They had pickles and some side dishes available (self-service). I ordered the curry beef udon, and my companion ordered the set with katsudon and udon. The udon here is not the soft type commonly found in Fukuoka, but rather flat noodles with a firm texture. The curry udon came with rice, beef, onions, fried onions, soft-boiled egg, and green onions. The soup had a strong spice flavor and tasted authentic. It wasn't too watery, and it paired perfectly with the noodles. After finishing the noodles, you can mix in the rice to make curry rice, which also tasted delicious. I tried a bite of my companion's katsudon, and the crispy pork cutlet soaked in broth was very tasty. It was easy to eat with chopsticks. They also have a "Ultimate Katsudon" with thick slices of pork loin and pork fillet, which looked very filling and delicious. I would like to try that next time. Thank you for the meal.

I went to the "Udon Daimoji" restaurant in Chikushino again. There was a sign outside the store saying that the pork cutlet bowl (usually 850 yen) was only 500 yen for today's 3rd-anniversary celebration! Even though I wasn't very hungry, I was happy to visit. They must have prepared quite a few because my food was ready in less than 5 minutes. The sauce on the bowl was a bit light, which was just right for me. The egg white still had quite a bit of transparent part left, but it was okay. The pork loin was about 7-8mm thick, plus the collar added up to about 15mm. It was a good thickness for a pork cutlet bowl, but I remember it being thicker when I had it before. The soup that came with it was nice, with a strong kelp flavor and a hint of bonito flakes' acidity. Overall, considering it was only 500 yen and I also got free side dishes, I can't really complain. I also enjoyed the 1980-90s Japanese music playing in the store.

I visited this restaurant for the first time after seeing it on Instagram. I happened to be there during their 3rd-anniversary celebration, so I was able to enjoy a katsudon for only 500 yen. The small udon was 180 yen and it was very delicious with a gentle soup that I finished entirely. In the self-service corner, there were free macaroni salad, tsukudani, and pickles, all of which were delicious. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was bright and lively, and I really enjoyed the katsudon as well.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally had lunch here. I ordered curry udon with a soft-boiled egg on top, and it came with a side of small rice, which is a classic menu item. After a long time, I visited "Udon Daibun" in Chikushino City. The most popular set, Katsudon + small udon, was priced at 980 yen. It used to be 900 yen two years ago, but with the recent reports of price increases, this seems acceptable. The plain udon was priced at 380 yen, which is average. On this day, I ordered the Gobo Tempura Udon for 520 yen. The self-service corner offered a variety of toppings like macaroni salad, bonito flakes, seaweed, pickled cucumber, and tempura bits, which was a generous offer. The macaroni salad had a strong flavor that seemed a bit excessive. The bonito flakes were surprisingly flavorful and delicious. The udon arrived in about 20 minutes, with a mild and gentle soup base. The broth was complex with multiple types of bonito flakes used. Today, I visited the Udon Daimonji Chikushino store in Chikushino City, Fukuoka Prefecture. I decided to order the Gokumi Katsudon and Udon small set. The Katsudon was a unique style with tonkatsu on top of a tamago-don, and it came with both salt and a light sauce for your preference. There was space in front of the bowl, so you could eat the rice first if you wanted. The tonkatsu was tender with just the right amount of fat, very delicious. The udon had a great dashi aroma, and the flat noodles had a nice texture. Even though it was a small size, there was a generous amount. I was satisfied and full after the meal. The parking lot is located in front of the store, so if you're nearby, I recommend stopping by!

I finish my lunch early every day and then I always go to the usual super sento (public bath) to soak in the hot springs, sweat in the sauna, and relax in the sleeping bath while looking at the sky. Some may think it's a luxury to have plenty of free time even though money is tight, but this is how I enjoy living. Thanks to working for 43 years, I receive a small pension and I am enjoying it. After soaking in the bath, I always get hungry and end up going out to eat. One day, I remembered a udon/soba shop near the super sento that I saw on social media. I decided to visit the shop around 1:30 pm on a weekday. The tenzaru soba (cold soba with tempura) was priced at 980 yen, but I opted for the following: - Zaru Soba = 550 yen - Tempura (burdock root) = 140 yen I ordered this combination and was pleased with the affordable price. The shop is directly managed by a noodle factory, so I had high expectations. I waited for about 7 minutes as they boiled the fresh noodles. When the dish was served, I was surprised to see a generous portion of thin, firm noodles. The machine-made homemade noodles were cooked perfectly, with a firm core and a nice chill. I couldn't tell the exact percentage of buckwheat flour used, but I think it's around 60-70%, which is good enough for me. The slightly spicy dipping sauce paired well with the tempura, enhancing its flavor. The stick-shaped burdock tempura was soft and easy to chew, made with high-quality burdock root. Although it lacked a crunchy texture, it was still enjoyable. At such a low price, I would definitely come back for the large serving of zaru soba for lunch.

The udon restaurant always has customers waiting outside. The broth is rich and they serve flat noodles. Although they are known for their curry udon and katsudon, I decided to try the kashiwa udon and mini katsudon. This month, they also offer a 20% cashback when paying with PayPay, which made the place even more crowded. I wonder if I should come back here again.

I visited Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, bought some Umeboshi mochi as a souvenir, and then stopped by "Udon Daimonji" for lunch with a friend. I heard they have delicious Katsudon, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located along Prefectural Route 31, between Tosu and Chikushino, at the corner of Sugizuka intersection. Personally, I feel it's more accurate to say it's along the old Route 5. When we arrived at 11:20, the table seats were already full, so we were seated at the counter. Each seat was separated by a board, providing enough space for each customer. We placed our bags in the storage under the chairs and prepared our own iced water. There was also a side dish corner with macaroni salad, bonito flakes, and tempura flakes for the udon. The Katsudon set we ordered arrived, and the perfectly melted egg on top looked appetizing. The balance of rice, egg, sauce, and pork cutlet in the bowl was excellent. Each component was delicious, but when eaten together, it was even more delightful. The first bite felt like winning the best Katsudon of the year! The udon noodles were flat and tasted good, especially with the tempura flakes sprinkled on top, but the Katsudon stole the show. Overall, it was a great choice to visit this restaurant. We enjoyed our meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

I went to Oomomo-san, a restaurant I was curious about, because I had a day off due to snow. They serve flat noodles with a light taste, which was just right. The noodles were chewy and easy to eat. They offer all-you-can-eat tempura flakes and pickles, which was a good deal. The katsudon was delicious, and my friend was happy that the burdock was served separately. You can see the process of making udon on the way to the restroom. It was delicious. Next time, I want to try the ankake udon.
