I have always been to Daruma in Dotonbori, Umeda, and Shin-Osaka, but I visited the Janjan Yokocho store in Shinsekai for the first time. I had the impression that it was always crowded, but it seemed easy to enter this time so I took the chance to visit. I had the original kushikatsu, onion, shishito peppers, camembert cheese, mozzarella cheese, quail, natural shrimp, black wagyu beef, cabbage, and draft beer. Everything was delicious as expected! However, compared to the Daruma I have eaten at other stores, I felt that the other stores were tastier. I'm not sure what the difference is, but that was the impression I got. Overall, it was delicious!

In Osaka, I wanted to visit New World where there are many kushikatsu restaurants. I wasn't sure which one to go to, so I decided to try a famous one and it was crowded with tourists. I ordered various skewers like beef, pork, and vegetables! They were light and easy to eat, and the alcohol went down smoothly. I want to try other restaurants next time. In mid-October 2022, I wandered around the area near Tsutenkaku and got hungry, so I went to "Motozou Kushikatsu Daruma Janjan-ten" restaurant. I ordered the "Zoo Front Set" for 2,585 yen including tax. The set included dote-yaki and kushikatsu (original kushikatsu, pork cutlet, asparagus, quail egg, rice cake, natural shrimp, tsukune, wiener, cheese, cheese fish cake, sweet potato, fried chicken, octopus, lotus root, beef tenderloin). The kushikatsu was surprisingly light and crispy, with a crunchy batter that wasn't heavy or greasy. The dote-yaki was a bit sweet, but the beef tendon was cooked perfectly and delicious.

I waited for my first time at Kushikatsu Daruma... The restaurant was extremely crowded. The tables were small, so it was difficult to eat with two big guys. In the city, small restaurants are unavoidable, but as someone from the countryside used to wide spaces, I prefer to eat comfortably.

I was born in Osaka and have lived for over half a century, with my life mostly going downhill. However, on this day, I was filled with excitement like a tourist as I made my first visit to the original kushikatsu restaurant, Daruma, located at the foot of Tsutenkaku, which has become a symbol of Osaka's food culture. I visited with a senior colleague and a slightly younger lady. We arrived a little after 11:00 on a Saturday and the restaurant was about 80% full, mostly with younger customers, perhaps tourists during summer vacation. We ordered both orally and through scanning a QR code on our smartphones. We ate a lot, trying almost every item on the menu despite our age. The kushikatsu was all fresh with a light, crispy batter that made it easy to eat. The popularity of the restaurant is well-deserved. I didn't see the final bill as my senior colleague paid, but compared to nearby kushikatsu restaurants, it may be a bit on the pricier side. Thank you for the delicious meal, and I will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

I arrived a little after 2 o'clock, so I was able to sit down without waiting in line. I ordered using my smartphone, and the sauce was the pour-over type. The pickled pad cost 110 yen per person. I had always dreamed of having beer and skewers during the day. This time, I visited Osaka by train, so I enjoyed crispy and delicious shrimp that I could eat by just biting into. The plump red pickled ginger was also amazing.

I felt like eating kushikatsu, so I headed to Shinsekai. The place I usually go to was unexpectedly closed, so I decided to try Daruma instead. However, it was full everywhere I went. I kept looking for a place with available seats and ended up at this place just before entering Janjan Yokocho. Surprisingly, it was not crowded. The food was served quickly and the kushikatsu was delicious with a crispy texture. Before I knew it, the place was almost full. Thank you for the meal.

For the second stop on our holiday drinking tour, we moved from Amagasaki to Shinsekai. We started off with a safe choice at the famous restaurant "Ganso Kushikatsu Daruma Janjan-ten". A draft beer costs around 600 yen, a bit on the pricey side. The kushikatsu skewers are 132 yen each, with a fine and crispy coating that tastes great. However, it's a bit disappointing that they don't allow double dipping and instead provide sauce in a bottle. The taste? Well, it's a popular spot, so it's definitely delicious! This is my first time trying Osaka's soul food, kushikatsu. It's my first time trying it so I don't know about others, but oh my, despite being fried, it feels light. The batter is thin and not heavy at all, so you can eat it quickly. My friend picked out the kushikatsu for us, and the eel was so fluffy and delicious. The pickled ginger was also very tasty. The sauce was the type you pour over, not dip in. The restaurant had a very traditional atmosphere, and I enjoyed it in many ways!

I thought there wouldn't be any strange old men around this area, so I decided to stop by. But there he was... a strange old man at the counter, smiling the whole time. This is definitely Shinsekai... the fried skewers here are delicious! They must have mixed in some Happy Turn powder. The batter is just right, with a nice golden color and a finely calculated texture. Despite the lack of customers compared to other stores in the area, the deliciousness of Daruma's skewers becomes apparent upon revisiting. And the drinks go down smoothly too!

I am surprised that even though this restaurant has many outlets, there is absolutely no drop in quality. I think maybe Kushi Katsu Tanaka is the inspiration for this place. The main feature here is the batter, it's thick and crispy. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference, but personally, I prefer the light batter style of Yaekatsu, so I would rank this as my second choice. However, I think it all comes down to personal preference, so just choose whichever you like. Thank you for the meal.

Visited the famous Kushikatsu Daruma Janjan store. Started with a great value set and then added individual items. Unlike other kushikatsu places, the batter here is not too oily. It was delicious and I ended up eating a lot. Also, the doteyaki was incredibly tasty.

Now, the fun part is going on a kushikatsu food tour. I had the desired places in mind. Let's go! Oh no, due to the current situation, some shops are closing. One of the two must-visit places was just about to close. Darn it! The last hope, please be open! Luckily, the last place was open. It was Kushikatsu Daruma, a long-established kushikatsu restaurant founded in 1929. Known for their rule of no double-dipping and their special sauce. I quickly ordered a variety of kushikatsu. First, a toast with a draft beer! The secret sauce that prohibits double-dipping was not in the usual container, perhaps due to the current situation, it was in a sauce dispenser. The kushikatsu was so delicious. The crispy coating and light sauce were amazing. I could eat as many as I wanted. I originally wanted to try different places, but I decided to fully enjoy the kushikatsu here. Thank you for the meal!

However, recently, especially during the peak of inbound tourism, the area has become crowded with tourists who are mostly just curious visitors like me. Nevertheless, the interesting and intriguing aspects of this place remain unchanged. There are even places where people drink alcohol from the morning, and some visitors come to see that. Let's go to Shinsekai after a long time and try some kushikatsu. We arrived at "Ganso Kushikatsu Daruma Janjan-ten" after struggling to find a place without long lines. The menu has something called Daruma Highball, which is delicious for some reason. The kushikatsu is light, with a good texture and easy to eat. There's no famous rule against double dipping the sauce. You just squeeze the plastic container to pour the sauce, and you can add as much as you like. It feels clean and the atmosphere is easy to understand and eat. The deep atmosphere may have decreased, but the simplicity and ease of eating are good. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal. While at Spa World, I felt like eating some kushikatsu. Normally, Daruma is always crowded, but on a weekday afternoon during the pandemic, it was empty. They had alcohol disinfectant on the tables (cleaned after each customer), stopped the double dipping of sauce (provided a bottle to pour sauce on top instead), and had acrylic dividers at the counter seats for infection prevention. In other shops in Jyan Jyan Yokocho, some customers were drinking without masks and not keeping distance at the counter. I ordered the "Jyan Jyan Set" which included doteyaki and 9 skewers (original kushikatsu, pork, natural shrimp, asparagus, quail egg, cheese fish cake, chicken meatball, wiener, mochi) for 1400 yen. They served 5 skewers first and then brought out the remaining 4 later, ensuring they were freshly fried. The skewers were large, had a good texture, and seemed to be fried well.

When it comes to Osaka, you can't forget about kushikatsu. I decided to go to Shinsekai and had some beer and kushikatsu at this restaurant during the daytime. There were options to eat at the main store or other shops, but I chose this Janjan restaurant. The sauce container with a rule of no double dipping is now charged separately! Anyway, it was delicious and cheap! Thank you for the meal!

When I went on a trip to Osaka, I visited Daruma for dinner. It was a weekday night, so I was able to enter without waiting! First, I was tired from walking and feeling thirsty, so I toasted with a draft beer! I wanted to try various types of kushikatsu, so I ordered the Shinsekai set! It comes with 15 types of kushikatsu and a speed menu item, so it's a great deal! While waiting for my order to arrive, I enjoyed some cabbage and beer! When the kushikatsu arrived, I ate it carefully, being mindful of not double-dipping! The taste was really delicious! I recommend the pork katsu! There are so many different types available, so I definitely want to go back again! Why don't you all give it a try and visit this place too!?

The kushikatsu in Osaka is really delicious. Due to the influence of COVID-19, the sauce is served in a dipping format, but for an additional 100 yen, you can also get the pouring option. The vegetables and meat are both delicious, and I am very satisfied. The restaurant is clean, and the staff, including the older brothers, are very kind and made the meal enjoyable! I will come back again.
