The combination of the gentle sweetness of castella and the rich bitterness of chocolate is the best. The rusk has a crispy texture that is addictive! It was so delicious that it disappeared in no time. This is a limited edition winter product from Kurofune, so be sure to try it. ❄️

At Hankyu Department Store, I often buy souvenirs. This time, I visited the Hankyu Umeda Main Store on a whim. My favorite items are the individually wrapped castella cake and black dorayaki sold here. I remember being impressed by the chewy texture of the dorayaki when I first tried it. They also sell a series where that same dough is used to sandwich different fillings. Last time, I bought the mascarpone cheese and pear flavor, which was incredibly delicious. However, when I went to buy it again this time, they had already stopped selling that flavor and had replaced it with chocolate. I'm not sure if it's common now, but I'll try this modern twist. The delicious skin with red bean cream and strawberries on top. The overall taste balance is not bad, but at the end, the chewy skin and the acidity of the strawberries don't seem to match well. - "Matcha Dorayaki" ($2.70): The usual skin with "shiratama" and red bean paste flavored with matcha. Shiratama goes really well. Matcha also pairs nicely, but personally, I think a stronger matcha flavor (bitterness and aroma) would have made it even more delicious. I came to the office and found a gift from a person who likes Umeda Hankyu. When I opened the box, there were four types of treats inside: ZARALLA, CHOCOLALA, THE RICH & CHOCO, and Casta RASQ. I decided to arrange them on a plate. The ZARALLA had large sugar crystals on top, making it crunchy. The Casta RASQ had a soft and moist texture with chocolate on top. I enjoyed them and thought about bringing more home to write a review on my food blog.

I received black ship castella, black ship castella roll with red bean yokan, quarto baum caramel from my mother. The black ship castella is thickly sliced and has a strong taste of eggs and sugar. It looks big and has a special feel to it. The black ship castella roll with red bean yokan has red bean yokan in the middle of the castella-style roll cake. The taste of red bean yokan comes out well, with the sweetness of sugar crystals, giving it a Japanese-style castella flavor. I felt that the combination of castella and yokan worked well together. It is not bad on its own, but personally, I preferred it with jam spread on top. Some may find it lacking, but I thought it could be a nice alternative to high-end bakery's plain bread for a change. It seems that production is challenging, and it is not always available at the same store, but if you come across it, I recommend giving it a try.
