I finally went to see a live performance by Shimauta Live Ryukyu at Osaka Station Building No. 3 underground, a place I had always wanted to visit. I had passed by many times before but it was always crowded and I couldn't get in. On this day (Saturday), I arrived at the restaurant before 5 pm to make a reservation for a seat, and then waited around until about 6 pm, one hour before the first live performance. As soon as I sat down, the staff asked for the key to the shoe locker. I stored it in a plastic box next to the seasoning holder on the table. Probably because many people tend to lose them, right? If you lose it, it costs 5000 yen, as written at the entrance. The seats were in a tatami room with rows arranged vertically towards the stage. Each seat had one cushion, but being a bit on the heavier side, I borrowed an extra one to sit comfortably. I was asked to store my belongings under the table. It seemed like a restaurant with a lot of orders? The reason being that everyone would dance later on, right? First, I ordered some drinks. I went for Orion beer, my favorite! I remember how delicious it was when I went to Okinawa on a trip and kept drinking it repeatedly. After that, I tried some awamori. I'm not very familiar with awamori, but the ones I randomly chose were all delicious! I tried it straight and also mixed with sanpincha (jasmine tea) and uchin (oolong tea), which were also good! I used to drink sanpincha as a substitute for water when I was in Okinawa, but it's also nice to drink it like this! Maybe I should try it with jasmine tea at home. I ordered a variety of dishes quickly before the live performance started. I often buy mimiga (pig ears) at convenience stores, but this was completely different! The texture was incredibly springy! I chose it mixed with peanut butter instead of ponzu, and it was superb! I also ordered my favorite jimami tofu. Lately, you can find it in packs, or at Okinawan-style restaurants, but this one was completely different from those. The rich taste and aroma of peanuts were outstanding! I ordered the fu chanpuru with wheat gluten. There are various types of chanpuru, but we decided to try this one. It had a rich seasoning and was incredibly delicious! I'm not brave enough to say whether it's better than my wife's homemade one. The assorted tempura was a great choice! It included mozuku seaweed, arthur (fish cake), goya (bitter melon), beniimo (purple sweet potato), pork (spam?), shishito pepper, and ooba (perilla leaf). They were all delicious! And I finally tried the sumashi-jiru soup with pig offal. It was quite a dish! It had plenty of ingredients, but it had little odor and a pleasant chewy texture! The delicious bonito broth paired well with the shiitake mushroom aroma. While enjoying these dishes, the long-awaited live performance began! By then, the restaurant was full. I was glad I made a reservation. There were songs I knew and songs I didn't, but it was very enjoyable! There were quite a few people peeking in from outside, all getting into the groove. In the end, everyone came out between the tables and danced around the restaurant together. As we moved our hands up and followed the rhythm, it gradually turned into an Awa Odori-like dance. I didn't care about the details! After dancing for a while, the first performance ended. We drank a bit more before leaving the restaurant. I had heard rumors that the food here was not that great, but where did those rumors come from? Because everything I ate was delicious! I wish I had started drinking at 5 pm. I will definitely come back! Thank you for the meal! 🎶🎶🎶
