I originally wanted to go to a different restaurant, but as I was cleaning up for a gathering, the closing time was approaching. So, I ended up going to the restaurant right in front of me with a sign that caught my eye. I ordered the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki because I usually make the Kansai-style at home, but I must say the quality was quite disappointing. I couldn't find any merits in it, so I might as well stick to the Kansai style or even just have yakisoba. Will I ever find the answer?

Kansai-style Oyster Okonomiyaki 890 yen
Oysters with Mayonnaise 490 yen
Goshiki Tamago (Five-colored egg) 890 yen
Steamed Oysters with Sake 490 yen
Rare Cream Almond Jelly 240 yen
I have actually never eaten oysters before, even though I have loved them since I was a child. I have never come across that culture. So, I visited Dondon Tei for the first time because they do not have a store in Miyazaki. I saw a sign saying "Oysters" at noon and decided to come at 6 pm. The interior of the restaurant is quite old-fashioned. The bathroom key is old-fashioned as well. That's fine, but I decided not to go for the Kansai-style Oyster Okonomiyaki. I had high expectations after seeing the menu photos, but I couldn't really tell where the oysters were. Maybe they shrunk during cooking. Also, the okonomiyaki itself had a rough texture from the wheat, which was not good. The okonomiyaki at other chain restaurants in Dotonbori is much better. The pork was slightly burnt and tough. The only thing that tasted good today was the Oysters with Mayonnaise that was served first. The pickled ginger was also good. Very disappointing... They accept PayPay, but I don't think I will ever come back here.

In early January, three adults and one child visited the "Don Don Tei Sone Bypass" store, located about a 10-minute drive from JR Shimosone Station. The restaurant has a total of 47 locations across Japan, with one store in almost every prefecture. The store is conveniently located for those arriving by car or bus, and there is also a drive-thru order reception machine. Inside, there are table seats, sofa seats, and sunken kotatsu seats, as well as a drink bar for children. Despite the New Year holiday season, the restaurant was crowded with families. We ordered the "Creamy Cheese Oyster Mayonnaise Grilled" dish, which uses premium Hiroshima oysters. The combination of mayonnaise, cheese, and spicy sauce made for a delicious dish. Overall, the restaurant is popular among families and offers a variety of options, including all-you-can-eat menus. Personal favorite was adding extra toppings to the modern noodles to create a unique dish. Thank you for the meal!

[Date] Dinner on weekdays in January
[Situation] Five adults including colleagues
[Number of visits] Probably around 10 times
[Access] About 10 minutes by car from JR Shimosone Station
On this day, my senior colleague was craving for flour-based dishes, so we decided to have a meeting at "Don Don Tei Sone Bypass Store." This restaurant is a okonomiyaki place operated by a company that mainly expands its food and beverage outlets in northern Kyushu. Currently (as of the end of January 2018), they have about 45 stores, and I heard that a new store has opened in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
The restaurant is divided into smoking and non-smoking areas, with various sizes of tables and a total capacity of over 60 seats, making it one of the relatively larger chain stores. When we arrived around 8 o'clock, about 40% of the seats were already taken by other customers.
We ordered the following:
- All-you-can-eat appetizers (Men: 1890 yen / Women: 1690 yen)
- Alcohol all-you-can-drink (1490 yen)
- Soup and drink bar (290 yen)
We tried various dishes, but I'll mention the delicious ones:
- Grilled romaine lettuce Caesar salad
- Mentaiko cheese monjayaki
- Cheese-in Kansai-style okonomiyaki
The service was good, and the timing for the alcohol all-you-can-drink was just right. The restaurant also offers delivery service. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience.

Don Don Tei located near Kokura Higashi Interchange is a reasonably priced restaurant. They offer all-you-can-eat okonomiyaki for those who want to eat a lot, so be sure to give it a try! This time, we opted for a special night set, maybe it was a pair course? We chose 2 main dishes, 2 side dishes, and 2 drinks for around 2000 to 3000 yen. Our family of four ordered the okonomiyaki in a large portion and added yakisoba. The yakisoba is prepared and brought to your table. As for the okonomiyaki, you get to cook it yourself! Our daughters mixed and flipped it for us. The okonomiyaki they made was delicious! Even if the shape is a bit messy, it's okay, it adds to the fun. Eating the hot okonomiyaki while chatting with everyone is so enjoyable!

This is a shop along the bypass. The interior has both table seating and tatami seating, so you can enjoy both okonomiyaki and monjayaki. The side menu is also extensive, so you can be satisfied even if you go at night. There are pork belly, sausage, yam teppanyaki rice dishes, fried rice, and zosui, even dessert... This time, I went mainly for monjayaki and tried it with squid, cheese, tuna, and mochi. The okonomiyaki was delicious, and you can choose between sweet and medium spicy sauce. For children, there is a set with toys and yakisoba or okonomiyaki, potatoes, fried chicken, and soft serve ice cream. My child chose the children's set without hesitation. Next time, I want to enjoy the side menu as well.

Both okonomiyaki and teppanyaki are delicious and reasonably priced. There are sets available with okonomiyaki and beer, as well as a variety of other dishes and desserts, so you won't get bored with the menu. However, the service is terrible. I have been there a few times and each time the service was bad. I can't provide details as my reviews have been deleted, but in my experience, it ranks in the top 3 worst for customer service among all the places I've been to. It's a shame because the food is really delicious. I personally will not be returning to the Sone Bypass location. If you don't mind poor service, then it might be a good option for you.

I tried ordering the "Hiroshima-style" okonomiyaki instead of making it myself because the taste can vary depending on the person making it. The flavor was neither exceptional nor disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it to those who prefer authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, but it should be satisfying for those who like Hiroshima-style more than Osaka-style. There are many different types of ingredients and combinations, making it enjoyable to create. They have a drink bar with frozen drinks, which kids may enjoy. The restaurant is surrounded by few large eateries, attracting a diverse range of customers from businessmen to families. I think the Don Don Tei chain is improving compared to before.

Located right next to Kokura Higashi Interchange on Kyushu Expressway, I had always been curious about this place but never quite made it there. This was because a friend of mine had told me in the past that the okonomiyaki at Don Don Tei was really bad, so I was hesitant to go. However, seeing a few cars always parked there made me think that I should give it a try someday. In July 2009, the day finally came. I went in and quickly ordered the Butatama okonomiyaki without hesitation. After waiting for about 4-5 minutes, the okonomiyaki arrived with the batter and ingredients uncooked. I thought the staff would cook it in front of me, but instead, they just placed the batter in a bowl and went back to the kitchen. Maybe this is a self-cook kind of place, I thought. I'm not a big fan of cooking my own food, but I decided to give it a try. After about 10 minutes of cooking, I sprinkled sauce and seaweed on the okonomiyaki, cut it with a spatula, and took a bite. Surprisingly, it was quite delicious! I quickly finished it and left the restaurant. Later, I found out that the staff can cook it for you as well. Well, if you enjoy cooking your own food and have confidence in your skills, this place might be good for you.
