First day of a business trip to Fukuoka. I checked in my luggage at the hotel before heading to the client's office for a meeting. Suddenly, heavy rain started pouring down, so I decided to seek shelter and have lunch at the Chinese restaurant, Tohkarin. It is located in the B1F of Hotel Okura Fukuoka, directly connected to Nakasu Kawabata Station. I arrived around 1:15 PM and was greeted by an open entrance leading to a clean and peaceful atmosphere inside the restaurant. Despite being just two people, we were seated at a round table. The table was already set with soy sauce, chili oil, vinegar, plates, napkins, chopsticks, and spoons. We were asked if we wanted hot or cold tea, and we chose cold tea. For lunch, we ordered the weekday lunch set for 2,000 yen, which included pickles, spring rolls, steamed pork with pickled vegetables, stir-fried beef with bell peppers, rice, onion and seaweed soup, mango pudding, and coffee. The lunch set menu changes weekly, and on this day, we had the option to choose one main dish from steamed pork with pickled vegetables, stir-fried squid with snow peas, stir-fried beef with bell peppers, or shrimp with mayonnaise sauce. We also had the choice of rice or congee, with free refills available. For dessert, we could choose from almond jelly, tapioca coconut milk, mango pudding, and more. Additionally, the set included spring rolls, weekly soup, pickles, and coffee, all for 2,000 yen. The dishes were served in about 5 minutes, and the weekly soup of onion and seaweed was delicious, setting high expectations for the rest of the meal. The pickles were subtly flavored with a satisfying crunch. The main dishes, steamed pork with pickled vegetables and stir-fried beef with bell peppers, were elegantly seasoned and paired well with the rice. I couldn't resist getting a second helping of rice because it was so tasty. Although both main dishes were delicious, I thought the shrimp with mayonnaise sauce might have been a good choice as well. The mango pudding dessert was light and mousse-like, with a perfectly balanced mango sauce. I finished the meal with a cup of coffee, completely satisfied with the lunch. At 2,000 yen, it was a great deal! I will definitely be returning when my new job nearby starts in September. The service was excellent, and private rooms are available, making it a perfect spot for business lunches or special occasions. I highly recommend the weekday lunch set for its high satisfaction level!
