The area around the station is important, can't slack off. For lunch, I planned to have the daily special of sesame mackerel bowl, but ended up with mackerel miso dish... Disappointed. It arrived in about 7-8 minutes, the mackerel was tough and lukewarm. The miso soup was the same. Feeling discouraged, my appetite decreased. The mackerel miso was disappointing, too sweet, overcooked, and the mackerel was small and skinny. The miso soup had only chopped onions, lacking substance. This was not satisfying at all.

The restaurant is close to the station, has a kotatsu so you can easily stretch your legs, and offers a children's menu with choices like ramen set or onigiri set. The kids also get a free drink and there is a TV at the table, which is really helpful! You can also grill your own food, and the best part is that they place everything in front of you so you can relax and enjoy your meal without worrying about the kids. I couldn't try the tsukemen this time because it was sold out, but I definitely want to try it next time!

At a first-time visit to the restaurant, I managed to slip in during the drink service from opening until 7pm. The service included discounts on drinks such as draft beer for 269 yen, whiskey highball for 215 yen, fresh lemon sour for 237 yen, etc. It's quite a good deal for daytime use. Since I was alone, I ordered two items from the solo drinking menu, along with two beers and one highball. - Seafood assorted sashimi with forbidden sea urchin sauce for 598 yen: The sashimi includes tuna, salmon, and another type of fish, topped with sea urchin and salmon roe. The shape may not be perfect due to the cut, but it's not bad. Since it's a seafood izakaya, sashimi is a must-have. The amount is just right for one person, and the sea urchin sauce adds a touch of luxury. - Rich salted squid innards from Japan for 328 yen: Personally, this was a hit! The salted squid innards come with frozen squid ovaries, making it extremely rich. It's an impressive dish that makes you wonder how they came up with it. Definitely a must-try with sake next time. Overall, the restaurant is spacious and welcoming for solo drinkers. Its proximity to the station and long drink service hours make it a place I'll likely visit more often. I will skip the evaluation for chain stores. Located in Asano, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City. This restaurant is on the first floor of AruAru City. It is operated by Monterosa. Monterosa really has various types of restaurants. We visited with three people. You can order the all-you-can-drink option separately. There are options for 2 hours and 3 hours. The condition for the all-you-can-drink option is to order 2 dishes per person. Even dishes like edamame and boiled fish are counted, so the difficulty level is quite low. This time, we ordered the 3-hour all-you-can-drink option (1870 yen) with additional options for beer, etc. (+220 yen). We ordered the following dishes: spicy cod roe potato salad (438 yen), assorted shrimp (658 yen), seared mackerel with condiments (658 yen), assorted grilled dishes (1208 yen), ponzu sauce with shirako (548 yen), and hand-rolled sushi set (1408 yen). We also had an appetizer. The spicy cod roe potato salad was delicious. The seared mackerel was well-seasoned and goes well with alcohol. Grilling and rolling the dishes together with everyone was enjoyable. The shirako with ponzu sauce was firm and tasty. This place is suitable for both casual drinking and family dining. It's good for daytime drinking, but a bit disappointed by the difference between the menu and the actual dishes! Sakana no Ginji at Kokura Station in Kitakyushu City: Visited on 2/19/2017 There was an event and we were looking for a place for a casual drink from lunch at Kokura Station (north exit), and we found "Sakana no Ginji"! Upon researching, it seems to be a chain store of Shirakiya and Uotami. There was a bit of unease, but it was a valuable place for daytime drinking! So, the three of us decided to go in. The sliding aluminum door was a bit concerning, but the interior was decorated with fish-related items like fisherman flags and lanterns, giving the impression of a fish-focused establishment. We sat down in the tatami room and immediately looked at the menu. The first thing that caught our eye was the "namerou" (minced fish) so we ordered it. We also ordered the bonito belly shio-taku yaki, tofu, and today's fried fish in dashi. For drinks, we had draft beer, which was reasonably priced at under 400 yen for a medium-sized glass. The chilled draft beer and fresh fish "namerou" were served. The portions seemed a bit small. The bonito belly shio-taku yaki was also on the small side. The tofu and fried fish in dashi were also not enough for sharing among three people. The grilled dish cooked on a simple grill was the shishamo, which again was small in size. When comparing the dishes to the menu, there was a clear difference. The only good thing was the "sakukiri frozen grapefruit sour", which was refreshing and we quickly finished it, ordering more. The frozen grapefruit was a bit hard to drink, so we used chopsticks to make it easier. The highly anticipated fresh fish from the fishing port was disappointing. The crispy cheese fry seemed to be the best dish. The bill was quite high, and there was a feeling of being overpriced. It might be suitable for a casual drink, but not ideal for a drinking party. We felt that it was not a place we would visit again.

I ordered a Mega Highball with various dishes like namero, sashimi, and motsu-ni. There was a monitor at the table, but it turned out to be a regular TV. The drinks and food were served quickly, which was great because we didn't have to wait long. We were able to eat quickly and leave easily.

This place is suitable for small gatherings for casual drinks and banquet courses. The seafood grilled dishes, which are the specialty of the restaurant, are quite good, but the rest of the menu is just average. It's part of the Monterosa group, so I didn't have high expectations anyway. The banquet courses are not as bad as I thought. The sashimi is of Monterosa quality, but the rest is just okay. However, the small grill for the seafood grilling is a big downside as it can't handle cooking for a larger group all at once. The seafood hot pot seems to have finely chopped kelp-like ingredient that makes the pot overly salty as time passes. It's fine if you finish it quickly, but during a lively banquet, it's hard to do so. Also, the all-you-can-drink sweet potato shochu had two types, and if you don't specify, you might end up with a bad one, like I did. You need to order the "Kurokirishima on the rocks" specifically. It seems like many places have reviews like "banquets are not recommended," but if my company found out I criticized a place where I organized an event, I might get in trouble (laughs). I better behave to avoid getting caught (laughs).

This restaurant located on the Shinkansen side used to be open 24 hours, but now it has changed to operating from 11 am to 5 am. It is a nationwide chain specializing in seafood dishes, where you can enjoy dishes like "hamayaki" where you grill shellfish and seafood on a tabletop stove. They offer seasonal delicacies like cherry shrimp and raw whitebait sashimi, as well as regular menu items like the famous hearty squid tempura and hokke fish. They have three types of soy sauce: Hokkaido kombu dashi, Kanto soy sauce, and Kyushu sweet soy sauce, catering to various preferences. The popular hearty squid tempura has a crispy coating and goes well with beer. It's a bit disappointing that in Kyushu, ice and water are charged separately when ordering a bottle of shochu.

It's March! It's cold, and today it's sleeting (T_T). In times like this, hot sake is the way to go, right? So, I went to Ginji, a spot at the ARUARU CITY near Kokura Station (right by the station). It's an izakaya operated by Monteroza. You can watch WBC TV at the entrance! Inside, I was guided to a semi-private seat near the entrance with a TV. There are only about 3 or 4 limited seats like this, lucky me. Towards the back, there's a counter and table seats. I started with a ruby, and then the staff recommended playing a dice game called "Chinchirorin" for discounted highballs. It was fun like a game. I got half-price highballs and 2 free drinks! But later, I saw on the bill that there was a charge for playing the dice game, 540 yen. I remember the staff explaining it now. They also have Hamayaki, where you grill clams, which were delicious, and you can grill the head and legs of squid too! This goes perfectly with sake. This place has a wide selection of sake at reasonable prices!

Monte Rosa Group's izakayas such as Uomin, Shirakiya, and Warawara, as well as the discerning Ginji in Beppu. I saw it in front of the station when I went to Beppu, and I wanted to go because Mairevi-sama also went to this shop. There are plenty of seafood dishes, and it's a nice place with sashimi included. I ordered a maguro (tuna) platter and a sashimi assortment. The maguro platter has chutoro, negitoro, akami, all piled up on ice, and it looks impressive, but the quantity is small. But the taste is just delicious. I ordered another beer and also ordered fried tofu and french fries. There are various kinds of snacks centered around fish dishes, and there are quite a variety of drinks as well. Impressions: There were various types of soy sauce available, but I decided to go with Kyushu soy sauce. It had a sweet taste and was delicious. The salmon was thickly sliced, giving it a satisfying texture. I enjoyed it with my favorite ikura.

Having a slow lunch near the north exit of Kokura Station, I was wandering around the moving sidewalk when a cute girl handed me a flyer saying "Please come if you'd like ♡". It was for a maid cafe. I considered visiting the cafe recommended by a famous reviewer, but instead decided to go to a different place based on their review. The place was called "Mekiki no Ginji" located on the 1st floor of "Aruru City" where the maid cafe was. I thought the owner would be a cool-looking fisherman, but it turned out to be a chain restaurant called "Mekiki no Ginji" with 137 branches. It's part of the Monterosa Group, which also operates restaurants like Uotami and Shirakiya. Surprisingly, they are open 24 hours and offer great breakfast and lunch options. I ordered the "Tuna Ramen" for lunch, which was a unique dish with tuna slices, seaweed, and a soy sauce-based soup with pork bone and chicken broth. The tuna slices were lightly seared, adding a nice flavor to the dish. The soup was well-balanced with a blend of fish and animal-based umami. The noodles were different from typical ramen noodles, more similar to Chinese noodles. Overall, it was a comforting and delicious meal. After finishing my meal, I ordered a sake tasting set which allowed me to guess the brands of three different types of sake. The restaurant had a laid-back atmosphere and was reasonably priced, making it a good option for lunch or late-night dining. After returning home, I asked my friend if it's okay for women to visit maid cafes, and they mentioned that it can be a fun experience for families as well. 24-hour operation! I tried using "Mekiki no Ginji" which delivers directly from the fishing port. The restaurant mainly has 4-person table seats, with a few counter seats. I felt a bit pushed into a corner. The interior creates a lively atmosphere with paper lanterns and wooden boxes. It was lunchtime on a holiday, so I ordered hot sake "Hakutsuru". Automatically, an appetizer was served. Since I wasn't given a receipt, I'm not sure, but it was probably around 200 yen. I enjoyed the hot sake. - Squid innards salad (probably 398 yen): The menu photo looked nice. It was not bad, but it tasted like a pre-made product you can buy at a supermarket. - Amazing! Crab miso in a shell (498 yen): Made with plenty of fresh red snow crab from Sakaiminato, this dish was mixed with crab miso. I ordered it grilled, and it was delicious. Even though there were various ingredients mixed in the crab miso, it was quite good. It goes well with sake. Delicious! - Tuna sashimi and seafood bowl (798 yen): A seafood bowl, which is not on the discounted lunch menu, is a specialty of the restaurant.
