I had been curious about this place from Instagram posts. In particular, I was very interested in the lamb cutlet curry as a fan of lamb meat. When the dish arrived, the impact was immeasurable - two huge lamb cutlets were served, perfectly fried to a beautiful rosy color. With just one bite, you could feel the soft texture of the meat melting in your mouth, with a refreshing yet delicious sweet fat. The classic curry was an unusual soup curry, with a strong flavor of spiciness and spices. The side dishes also complemented the lamb cutlet perfectly. After finishing the large lamb cutlets and rice, I was completely satisfied. The satisfaction from one dish was very high and it was amazing! Next time, I will try the pork cutlet! Today, I visited a curry restaurant in Shin Umeda for the second time after a long while. It was a bit late, but we were able to get in smoothly with only two customers ahead of us. However, many items were already sold out, showing that it is really popular. Later, three more customers arrived, but unfortunately, there was only enough food for one person left, so they had to be turned away. It was lucky for us to have arrived at the right time. The pork cutlet was sold out, so I had the loin cutlet today, which was also delicious as expected. I always go for the extra side dish portion, it's a must. The bone-in lamb meat looked very delicious. I was captivated by the photos on social media and decided to try it. However, there were many other delicious curry dishes available. I was tempted, but I stuck to my original plan. I enjoyed it with a gin and tonic and opted for less rice. The lamb cutlet was as juicy and tender as I expected. The curry was soup curry, full of acidity and spices, very delicious. Both dishes paired perfectly with the gin and tonic. It was very tasty. I would like to try something different next time. Visit date and time: 2023/08/07 13:25 After finishing work quite early, I stopped by "Shankara-do" on my way home. While there are many offices in Osaka Fukushima, this restaurant is located in a residential area on the north side. It is quite a distance to walk from the station or workplace, so I had been waiting for an opportunity to visit. I ordered the "Pork Cutlet Curry" with extra large rice, and my companion, a young person, ordered the "Filet Cutlet Curry" with extra large rice and no cilantro. Food Taste: 3.7 The "Pork Cutlet Curry" is actually in a soup curry style. It is rare to find this genre in Osaka Fukushima or even if you extend to Umeda. The dish includes pork cutlet, two types of achar, and chopped cilantro. The bowl is filled with soup. The visual appeal of the umami components of the broth is impressive, with a strong aroma and flavor from the abundant spices. The spiciness is a mild, slow-burning type, suitable even in this intense heat. The pork cutlet is cut into bite-sized pieces, thick and tender, with a light flavor. The amount of white rice was appropriate for the extra large serving, but the balance leaned towards the meat, almost leaving too much pork cutlet. It was a quality similar to a tonkatsu specialty restaurant. I found that I had quite a bit of soup left, perhaps because I am not accustomed to this style of dish. It ended up becoming a bit soupy as I tried to eat it by placing rice on the spoon and dipping it in the soup. Service: 3.4 The staff provided natural and friendly service with a smile. When serving the dishes, they paused briefly to ensure they did not disturb any photography. Extra large rice was complimentary, and the staff confirmed this when taking the order. They also checked if cilantro was desired. The staff also made some humorous comments while explaining the dish to my companion. Atmosphere: 3.3 The restaurant is a two-story building, with counter seats on the first floor and table seats on the second floor. It has a cafe-like atmosphere with a touch of foreign charm, appealing to young people. The access is a bit tricky due to the distance from the station, but it was a relaxing environment. There were about 7 previous customers and an unknown number of subsequent customers. Cost Performance: 3.0 The "Pork Cutlet Curry" and "Filet Cutlet Curry" were both priced at 1300 yen each, with extra large rice being complimentary. The lunch prices in Osaka Fukushima are a bit on the higher side, but considering the satisfaction level, it seems reasonable. Drink: Not available My companion enjoyed the meal, and I also liked the flavors, although I struggled with eating it as if I were avoiding fish bones. I regret my lack of skill and hope to improve in the future. P.S. After writing this, I read other reviews and found out that the staff mentioned it was fine to eat the dish by pouring the soup over it or by dipping the ingredients in the soup. In my case, the latter method would have been more suitable. Oh no!

At the end of 2022, I tried a new spicy curry place called Shankara-do near Fukushima Station, about a 10-minute walk away! It was located in a residential area with narrow streets. I loved the mild spiciness and the runny curry texture! The level of spiciness was just right! They also topped it with cilantro, which was perfect for cilantro lovers like me. The first floor has only a counter, but there are 20 seats on the second floor! It was relatively easy to get a seat even during lunchtime when I visited. They apparently accept reservations, so it might be a good idea to call ahead for dinner! They have a wide variety of toppings, so it's easy to get indecisive. I want to try the lamb curry next time. Thank you for the delicious meal!

This is a sophisticated spice curry with a refreshing spice flavor and no heaviness at all. I had the Hirekatsu Curry for 1,300 yen including tax. The taste is refreshing and leaves a clean feeling in my mouth, almost like taking stomach medicine. The katsu was delicious too.

I ordered the hirekatsu and was told to wait about 10 minutes. I was looking forward to it. The soup curry came with the curry sauce on the side. I thought it might be difficult to eat from a separate plate, but it was nice to have different ways to enjoy it! I was surprised to find plums in the curry, but they actually went really well together. It was delicious. The curry sauce was just right! The tonkatsu was surprisingly delicious with more umami than spiciness. It was so tasty. The appearance matched the taste, and the tonkatsu was tender and flavorful. I couldn't believe I could have such delicious tonkatsu and curry together at this price! If you follow them on Instagram, you get a free lassi, but I forgot about it and it didn't come out after the meal, so I had to ask for it! If it doesn't come out, you might want to remind the staff as well! The staff were also very friendly and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing in the stylish restaurant. The cost performance is amazing. I will definitely go back.

I arrived 10 minutes before opening and there was a wait of about 5 groups, but there are 5 tables for 4 people each, and 5 counter seats, so I was able to get in on the first round. It's only available until it runs out, so if you can't go early, it might be better to ask for a reservation!

The restaurant is becoming a topic on Instagram. The appearance is very good and the staff are polite. However, the taste is mediocre. The lamb cutlet curry costs 2100 yen, so it's not expensive but still okay. The lamb was rare to the point of being practically raw, but is that okay? Both the curry and the cutlet felt like they were lacking a little something.

The curry with pork cutlet is a thin sauce. It has a slight spiciness but is not very hot. The surprising part is the pork cutlet itself. It is incredibly tender and delicious. It's not like the pork cutlets you find at regular tonkatsu restaurants. I almost wanted to eat it with just salt. It was even tastier without the sauce. If you like cilantro, you'll probably enjoy it. And the lassi after the meal. If you follow them on Instagram, you can get it for free. This lassi is incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal.

First visit. "Shankara-do" in Oyodo. Thursday, May 18, 2023. A popular curry cutlet restaurant located in Oyodo, about halfway between Fukushima and Nakatsu. Finally visited "Shankara-do". Entered with only a few seats left at 12:29. Ordered and seated. Curry arrived at 12:51. Lassi arrived at 13:05. Paid the bill and left at 13:07. Lamb cutlet curry (large rice) 2100 yen, Pork cutlet TP 500 yen, Total 2600 yen. Lassi was free as a special offer for following the shop on Instagram. I finally visited and ordered generously. I had decided in advance to try both the lamb cutlet and pork cutlet! Now, about the curry. The spicy and flavorful sauce is served separately, and I love the type where the spiciness kicks in later. It's delicious. Mixing the plenty of cilantro and side dishes with the sauce, rice, and curry creates an exquisite spice curry, which is one of the popular points. Another popular point is the authentic taste of the cutlet, similar to a tonkatsu restaurant. The coating is fried to perfection, allowing you to savor the meat's flavor. Both the lamb and pork cutlets were incredibly delicious. The rareness of the lamb cutlet was a highlight. I ate a lot and my stomach is full, but I am completely satisfied. I ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry with a draft beer, which cost 1,700 yen. The curry sauce was a sweet and spicy coconut milk flavor, which I enjoyed. It might be considered on the sweeter side for those with a high tolerance. The thick-cut pork cutlet was tender with a nice bounce to it. They offer various menu options, including limited-time specials, so I would like to go back and try more.

On May 1, 2023, I visited "Shankara-do" located about an 8-minute walk from Fukushima Station on the Osaka Loop Line towards Osaka. Previously, they operated as a sublease at JR Noda, but they relocated and reopened in Fukushima at the end of December 2022. I ordered: - "Lamb Cutlet Curry" ¥2,100 - "Pork Cutlet a la carte" ¥500 - "Egg" ¥150 I patiently waited for the lamb and pork cutlets to be served. The crispy smell of fried food and the aroma of spices filled the store. The lamb and pork cutlets were fried to perfection, with a crispy coating. The lamb was juicy and meaty, and the pork cutlet was sweet and flavorful, with meat juice overflowing in the mouth. The curry sauce, served separately, had a light yet rich flavor with the umami of dashi and fragrant spices. I quickly finished the meal, enjoying the various ways to savor the dish. The restaurant was bustling with customers coming in one after another, and there was a long line outside, indicating its popularity. It was a delightful dining experience.

A hidden gem tucked away in a slightly secluded area. I was led to the second floor, but my mom friend was chatting next to us. I asked to move to a table on the first floor and felt relieved! Last time I had the sirloin, so this time I tried the fillet. Personally, I was very satisfied with the fillet's cooking perfection. The pairing with the smooth curry was excellent. I saw a photo on SNS that looked so delicious, so I decided to visit this place during my work trip. However, the main issue was the lack of coin parking in the area. On this day, the nearby coin parking was full, so I had to search around for another one. Luckily, I found one a bit far away and managed to park there, then walked for over 5 minutes to reach the restaurant. The shop was renovated from an old folk house, creating a lovely space with a warm wooden atmosphere. The counter seats were a bit high for women compared to the chairs. The shelves on the counter and walls displayed various spices and tableware, giving a nice touch. The menu included dishes like lamb cutlet curry, pork cutlet curry, and black sesame pork keema curry. I chose the pork cutlet curry, which seemed to be their signature dish. The curry and rice with pork cutlet were served separately. The staff explained that I could pour the curry over the rice or dip the pork cutlet in the curry. The curry had a thin consistency, not as strong as soup curry, with a strong spice flavor but quite light in taste. The pork cutlet was thick and satisfying, comparable to Watanabe curry in terms of appearance and taste. It was enjoyable to have a large portion of pork cutlet. I tried dipping the side dishes in the curry, but they didn't add much. So, I ended up pouring all the curry over the rice, which made it slightly tastier and I finished it all. I wish the curry had a bit more richness like soup curry or a more traditional curry flavor. Overall, it was a good meal.

I visited the restaurant at exactly 12:00 pm on a regular day. There was one seat available on the 1st floor. I aimed for the bamboo biryani, but unfortunately, it was already sold out. I ended up ordering the pork cutlet curry with extra rice. It cost 1300 yen including tax. It arrived in just over 10 minutes. The pork cutlet was neatly arranged, large, and thick. The curry was on the watery side. It wasn't very spicy and tasted similar to the chicken-based soup curry in Okayama. The pork cutlet was delicious, like the ones you would have at a good tonkatsu restaurant. I finished it all in one go and received a cassis jam lassi as a service for following them on Instagram. It's a pretty good restaurant. It's a shame I couldn't try the bamboo biryani, but I heard you can reserve it in advance.

I ordered the limited Saga white asparagus and sakura leaf pickled steamed pork with Orlande sauce, with a free upgrade to a large portion. The total cost was 1680 yen including tax. Additionally, I received a small lassi as a service for following their Instagram. The restaurant was run by two young male staff, one in charge of cooking and the other in charge of customer service. First, a small soup arrived, which seemed to be asparagus soup. It tasted like consomme with a spicy kick. Next, a curry dish was served, which had a thin soup-like consistency. Finally, a plate with rice and various toppings was brought to the table. The steamed pork, topped with sauce, and thick white asparagus were beautifully presented on the plate. The pork was tender and the sauce was delicious. The white asparagus was soft and had no strings, making it very tasty. The curry had good flavor despite its thin consistency and was moderately spicy, with the soup being spicier. However, if you ask for it to be spicier when ordering, they will adjust it accordingly. This curry reminded me of the curry from Galanga, a restaurant that used to be in Kitashirakawa, Kyoto. It was quite delicious. The lassi served after the meal had a hint of blueberry jam, making it sweet but tasty. The tonkatsu ordered by the person next to me was huge. I would like to try the katsu curry next time.
