In April 2023, I had a reservation at "zawa Coffee and Tamagoyaki Gohan" starting at 9 am, so I arrived at Shin-Fukushima Station, but it was already past 8 am. I decided to pass the time at a cafe that was open in the morning, but then I thought, why not try having morning udon at "Udon San-ku" for a change? I used to go there for breakfast when I worked in the Fukushima area, but it had been a while since my last visit. I bought a ticket at the machine and ordered the "Sudachi Shoyu Udon." I received my udon at the counter, added some green onions, tenkasu, and ginger as toppings, poured some soy sauce from the table, and dug in. Ah, the noodles from "Sanku" are still delicious. The combination of grated daikon radish and vinegar citrus made it refreshing, and I finished it all in one go. Just a note, even the small size was quite filling! Thank you for the meal. Now, I'll take a little stroll around the neighborhood before moving on to my Tamago Kake Gohan time.

On a Saturday morning around 10 o'clock, the breakfast set was sold out, so I ordered the popular Gyudon (beef rice bowl) and cold Bukkake Udon. The Gyudon was delicious with sweet and savory sauce on the beef. The udon had a good texture and was tasty. I will definitely visit again.

A popular udon shop in Urafukushima, one of the top 100 udon shops in Japan. You purchase your menu at the ticket machine on the left as soon as you enter. Then you hand over your ticket at the counter and wait at your seat. When your order is ready, they call your menu number. I wonder if this system is inefficient? I tried the cold bukkake udon bowl (500 yen). When you receive your order at the counter, slide to the right, grab your chopsticks, and add tempura bits and green onions as you like. You can take up to two spoonfuls of green onions. It's not all-you-can-eat like at Kame, but if you love green onions, you'll appreciate that they are freshly cut at the shop. The noodles are thick and chewy, but not as firm as Gokuraku Udon. The noodles are mixed with malt, giving them a slightly brown color and a strong wheat aroma. The taste at this price is amazing. Next time, I want to try the soup version to savor the broth. I left feeling satisfied after eating such delicious food. I'm impressed by the high level of quality provided by this specialized shop at the same price range as high-level chains. There are two ramen shops nearby under a different kanji but same ownership, called "Sanku," which are also of high quality. If you get the chance, you should try them out. Thank you for the meal!

I added meat to my Sudachi Udon. The udon noodles were smooth and had a nice texture. They weren't too firm or too soft, just delicious. The flavor of the meat was sweet and well-cooked, perfectly complementing the udon. It's not too crowded on weekdays, so it's a hidden gem. The set meals tend to sell out quickly. Will definitely come back!

For breakfast on the final day in Osaka, I went to "Udon Sanku" in Shin-Fukushima. They are known for their udon and open at 7 am, which was convenient. I ordered the "Service Set Meal" for 700 yen. After purchasing a meal ticket from the vending machine and handing it to the staff, I was asked if I wanted my udon warm or cold. I chose warm. I found a seat and waited for my order to be called out. After about 5 minutes, I went to the counter to pick up my meal. The udon had a unique texture due to the whole grain-like malt kneaded into the noodles, which were thick and had a good chewiness. The noodles had a slightly slippery texture on the surface, making them easy to eat. The broth was made with iriko fish stock. The large, chewy chikuwa tempura added a nice crunch to the dish. The mixed rice had a simple flavor. Personally, I'm not a fan of mixed rice, but it was okay. If I have the chance to visit again, I would like to try their cold udon next time. Thank you for the meal.

Today was the second day of the Osaka gourmet tour. Based on a recommendation from my friend, we visited "Sanku," which is affiliated with Ramen Hyakumeiten Sanpu, a popular ramen shop. The restaurant is known for its udon dishes and is ranked among the top 100 on Tabelog. We walked from Fukushima Station relying on Google Maps and arrived at 8 am. There was already a line of 5 people in front of the ticket machine, and the restaurant was 80% full. I missed out on the morning set menu, so I ordered what I wanted. I chose udon with sudachi soy sauce, shrimp tempura, and shredded kelp toppings. The udon was served promptly, and I added green onions and tempura flakes at the counter before moving to my seat. The udon had a unique texture resembling whole grain flour, but it was actually made from malt. It was incredibly chewy and had a mochi-like texture. The soy sauce had a slight sweetness and wasn't too salty, making it perfect for drizzling directly on the udon. The shrimp tempura was a pleasant surprise, with a crispy exterior and a juicy, slightly rare interior. It was satisfyingly large and delicious. The restaurant continued to attract customers even after I left, so I quickly finished my meal and departed. The popularity of the restaurant during the morning hours was justified by the excellent taste. This place might become a must-visit for morning meals in Osaka. Thank you for the delicious meal!

It seems that the 390 yen morning set I was aiming for was sold out at 7:30, 30 minutes after opening. They only had 20 sets available. So, I ended up getting cold udon instead. The noodles were chewy and had a good texture. The restaurant was always busy, but the turnover was quick so there was no line.

Before 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, there were already 5 people lined up ahead of me, and I was the 6th in line. The 390 yen morning set meal was sold out. I was aiming for the cold udon. I bought tickets for a small size cold udon (450 yen), shrimp tempura (250 yen), and seaweed (150 yen), and handed them to the counter. They asked me if I wanted the udon cold or hot. The tempura is fried after the order is placed. I noticed that the operation wasn't very smooth, which I think was the reason for the long line (there were about 40% empty seats inside the restaurant). The whole wheat udon had a strong flavor of the noodles themselves, which I enjoyed. Even though the cold udon had a strong salty taste, the flavor of the noodles came through as I ate more. The noodles were chewy and firm, so they didn't get overpowered by the saltiness. I enjoyed the texture of the whole wheat noodles and could taste a hint of sweetness as I ate more. I'm curious about trying the bukkake udon next time. The only disappointing part was that the freshly fried shrimp tempura was lukewarm and the shrimp seemed undercooked. The seaweed was good, with a nice slippery texture. I might revisit this place tomorrow morning.

[Location] 5-minute walk from JR Fukushima Station
[Order] Cold Bukkake Udon - ¥500
[Wait time] Arrived at 13:30, waited 10 minutes
[Impressions]
- Noodles have a good texture and taste delicious
- Free toppings of green onions and tempura bits
- Reasonable pricing makes it easy to visit
- The only downside is that the staff argued with each other in the shop

I came here for breakfast as they open from 7 am. I chose the Bukkake Hiyashi Udon with Chikuwa Tempura topping for ¥500 + ¥150. Although the Service Set Meal for ¥700 seemed like a good deal, I opted for the udon as it seemed more filling. It came with side dishes and mixed rice, which was a great value for just ¥50 more. The udon had a slightly gray color and a nutty aroma, likely due to whole wheat flour. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I enjoyed it. Rating: 6.3

Today, I visited the famous Osaka Fukushima Udon restaurant, Sanoku. I bought a meal ticket at the entrance ticket machine and ordered a Katsudon set for 850 yen at the counter with cold udon. The udon had a firm texture and the broth was flavorful, typical of a good udon shop. The Katsudon was delicious as well, truly living up to its reputation as a popular restaurant. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

It was lunchtime, so there were about 3 people in line. I was expecting the noodles to be chewier. The vegetable tempura was delicious. It was hot, so I chose cold udon. I would like to try different types as well. The breakfast set seemed to be recommended.

Pork cutlet bowl set for 850 yen. Fried fish cake for 150 yen. The udon was lightly seasoned with soy sauce and lukewarm for a dipping style. The noodles had a decent chewiness. The pork cutlet bowl had a good amount of meat and was fairly tasty. The seasoning was quite sweet, so you might get tired of it halfway through.

Saturday at 1:40 pm, a slightly late lunch but here is reassuring. With no time for a lunch break and a guaranteed taste, it's a safe choice. I ordered the Hiyakake for 450 yen and the Chikuwa Tempura for 150 yen from the ticket machine and received my order at the counter within 2-3 minutes. The noodles, similar to soba but not white, have a flavorful and firm texture. It's so delicious, there's no way it could be anything but. To visitors from the udon prefecture in Osaka, I highly recommend coming here for a meal. The broth is a bit strong, but it's just right for this season. I couldn't help but finish it all up! With plenty of condiments, it's so delicious. The large Chikuwa Tempura has a satisfying crunch and is delicious. I started coming here because of the morning udon, so I'll definitely be back for that. Thank you!

Today I came to Osaka and tried to have lunch at a sushi restaurant in Fukushima, but they had already finished serving lunch. I looked for another good restaurant and found a udon shop with high ratings! Lucky me! I went inside and bought a ticket for bukkake udon with egg and tempura bamboo shoots from the vending machine. The udon had a nice chewy texture, smooth and satisfying. The tempura bamboo shoots and egg were a perfect match with the broth and tasted delicious. The only downside was that the water was self-service, and the water from the water server was not cold, which was disappointing.

Long time no see Osaka business trip. But it's a day trip, so it's quite busy. So I left Tokyo early and headed to Osaka. I took the Nozomi from Shin-Yokohama on the Tokyu Toyoko Line to Shin-Osaka. Lately, I've been boarding from Shin-Yokohama instead of Tokyo or Shinagawa. I arrived at Shin-Osaka Station before 10 a.m. and headed to Umeda. Since most shops are probably not open yet, I did some window shopping at the food floors of Hankyu and Hanshin department stores. The items they sell definitely have a regional flair, which is interesting compared to Tokyo. I moved from Hanshin-Umeda Station to Fukushima Station to act early. I arrived 10 minutes before opening. It was hot that day, so I was sweating a bit. There were about 8 people lined up in front of the store. I waited in line. The store opened about 10 minutes late. It seemed like they weren't strict about the opening time. I went in and ordered the soy sauce udon at the ticket machine on the left. I handed the food ticket to the staff and waited a bit, and the udon was served promptly. It's all self-service, so I topped my udon with green onions and tempura flakes. By the way, there's a rule that you can only take up to 2 spoonfuls of green onions, so be careful. I sat at a table and squeezed some vinegar and soy sauce on my udon. The udon had a slightly different texture with some whole wheat flour mixed in, giving it a bouncy texture. It had a strong chewiness, and the noodles were quite firm. This might have been better suited for tsukemen rather than soup udon. It was a regular size, but the portion felt a bit small. I finished it quickly and left through the exit. It felt like an assembly line, similar to the tsukemen 102 I had in Omiya before, very efficient, but it didn't feel quite right. The taste was good, but I still prefer a more relaxed dining experience for lunch. I headed to Kyobashi Station early!

A udon restaurant in Fukushima. It is located right near Fukushima Station, next to the famous oden restaurant, Hanakujira Honten. There are 10 counter seats and 2 tables. They open early in the morning, so I visited around 8 am for breakfast. They have a special breakfast deal for 390 yen, but unfortunately it was already sold out. It seems like you need to aim for a quick start when they open. Looking at the other menu options, they have around 5 types of udon ranging from 450 yen. There is also a hearty set menu for 700 yen, which includes udon and a rice bowl. Since I was there, I decided to order this hearty set. Upon entering the restaurant, you first purchase a meal ticket from the machine. Then you take it to the counter for your order.
○Hearty Set (700 yen)
- Cold udon: The broth is slightly sweet, and the udon has a chewy and springy texture. It has a nice firmness and is quite delicious. It also has a slightly fragrant flavor, which is good.
- Katsudon: The pork cutlet is tender, and the sauce has a moderate sweetness. It's enjoyable to eat with the gooey egg. This was quite delicious.
○Kake Udon (450 yen)
- Cold udon: The broth has a strong bonito flavor. It's a bit salty, but maybe that's why it's a cleaner broth? You can really taste the fragrant udon. I was unsure about having Katsudon for breakfast, but it was actually very tasty. Next time, I'll visit earlier to try their famous morning meal.

There is a great udon restaurant at Fukushima Station in Osaka! The name of the restaurant is "Udon Sanku." It is located a 2-minute walk from Shin-Fukushima Station. This restaurant has a high rating on Tabelog (3.76 out of 5) and is known for its affordable prices (up to 1,000 yen). They offer a set menu of Katsudon and udon for 850 yen. It is the only udon restaurant in Fukushima, Osaka with such a high rating. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and you order through a ticket machine and wait for your food. You can add tempura flakes, green onions, and ginger yourself. The udon noodles are made with whole wheat, which is rare for udon noodles. The noodles are thick and have a firm texture. This is definitely a restaurant worth visiting again!

I wanted breakfast and went to Sank-san. It was past 9 o'clock, so the 390 yen breakfast set was sold out. Instead, I got a hearty morning set. You can choose from dishes like katsudon. The udon was cold and chewy, with a great texture. Thank you for the meal.

When I went to Osaka, I came here for breakfast! When you think of Osaka, do you think of katsu udon or kitsune udon? But the whole wheat udon here is also quite good! It's not like Musashino udon, it has a firm elasticity and a chewy texture. The cost performance is also great!

On Sunday at 7:30 am, I went to the long-awaited "Udon Sanku" for breakfast. The restaurant was about 50-60% full. The signboard menu featured a hearty breakfast set for 650 yen, but the ticket machine showed 700 yen. It seems like the prices have gone up. I ordered the hearty breakfast set with katsudon and cold udon. The katsudon had a slightly different egg texture than before, I prefer it a bit more gooey. It seemed more like a cafeteria-style katsudon this time. After a while, the 390 yen morning set was sold out. The morning set remained at 390 yen. Overall, it was a decent meal. ★★★
