Having a meal with my junior colleague and his wife. As the year-end approaches, I start craving for Ganjang Gejang, so I asked my junior colleague to make a reservation for us, and he chose a restaurant called "Madaan". On the way to the restaurant, my junior colleague sent me a message on social media saying, "We can't get crabs, so we can't have Ganjang Gejang. But we can have Ganjang-style shrimp. What do you think?" I couldn't refuse at that point, so we decided to go with that option. The restaurant was very clean, and more than 90% of the customers were young people. We ordered from the menu placed on the table. We tried the Ganjang-style shrimp called "Ganjang Seujang", where large raw shrimp were soaked in Korean-style soy sauce. We peeled the shrimp with our hands and savored it. It was delicious. I finished both servings (2 shrimp per serving) in no time. Later, I learned that "Ganjang" means soy sauce in Korean. Interesting. We also ordered seafood pancake and Kimbap. The Kimchi, which I love, came in a luxurious assortment of 9 types. Initially, we ordered 2 sets, but the staff recommended us to start with 1 set, but we ended up adding more as 1 set was not enough for 4 people. For the main dish, we had "Pulnatchichongol", a hot pot with meat, intestines, and octopus. It was a Korean-style hot pot, so it was bright red with chili peppers, but surprisingly the broth was mild. Even though I'm not a fan of vegetables, I enjoyed it. Lastly, we had the classic cold noodles. It was a clean white color, but it didn't leave a strong impression. We ordered raw rice wine, which was served in a ceramic vessel and shared with a ladle. It had been a while since I had rice wine, and it was delicious. Since we didn't have Ganjang Gejang, the total cost was around 6,000 yen per person, which was half of our budget. My junior colleague bought Ganjang Gejang from a nearby shop near Tsuruhashi Station and gave it to me. He is so considerate, and I'm grateful.
