Located a 5-minute walk from Shin-Imamiya Station, in the heart of Shinsekai near Tsutenkaku Tower, this restaurant opened in April 2023 and offers delicious Japanese cuisine with a focus on dashi broth and creative kushikatsu. The stylish and modern izakaya features a café-style terrace, private rooms, and cozy sunken kotatsu seating.
- Nikudama Okakagohan (Meatball Rice with Bonito Flakes) 638 yen: A perfect balance of mixed rice, meat, egg, and bonito flakes. A mouthful of bliss from the first bite.
- Akashiyaki (Octopus) 869 yen: The delicious broth enhances the fluffy texture of the octopus, complementing the dough perfectly. I could get addicted to this Akashiyaki.
- Recommended Kushikatsu:
- Salmon with Chicken 528 yen
- Angel Prawn 440 yen
- Wagyu Beef with Sea Urchin 528 yen
- Kombu Shell with Roe 528 yen
- Wagyu Beef 275 yen
- Hormone (offal) 165 yen
- Asparagus 330 yen
- Inca's Awakening (potato) 198 yen
- Onion 154 yen
- Shiitake Mushroom 198 yen
A variety of kushikatsu options are available, with recommended ways to enjoy them using kushikatsu broth, soy sauce, and snow salt.
- Mentaikama Tamago Udon (Spicy Cod Roe and Egg Udon) 1188 yen: The gentle spiciness of mentaiko paired with creamy egg creates a rich udon dish. The thick noodles provide a satisfying chew, and the butter adds a flavorful touch.
I dined in a private room this time, and the cozy atmosphere allowed me to savor the meal slowly and comfortably. The wide variety of kushikatsu, including unique options, was impressive. I definitely want to visit again.

Located at the base of Tsutenkaku, this open kushikatsu restaurant is a bit unique. In the New World area, there are many kushikatsu restaurants where you dip the skewers in sauce, but this one is different. It has a slightly stylish atmosphere, unlike the traditional downtown kushikatsu places. The establishment is stylish, and it almost feels like you're not in the downtown area, more like in Kita-Shinchi. There are terrace seats available with a roof, so you can enjoy your meal even on rainy days or scorching hot days with excellent ventilation. It might be great in the summer. The interior is surprisingly spacious, with a total of 136 seats including tatami rooms and private rooms. We were seated in a private room and enjoyed the following dishes: Suntory The Malt's draft beer for 550 yen, Meatball with bonito flakes and rice for 638 yen, Angel shrimp for 440 yen, Wagyu beef for 275 yen, Kombu kushikatsu with scallops for 528 yen, Wagyu beef wrapped in sea urchin for 528 yen, Inca's Awakening for 198 yen, Asparagus for 330 yen, Akashiyaki octopus for 869 yen, and Adult Mixed Juice Sour Milk for 605 yen. We also tried the spicy cod roe kama-tama udon for 1188 yen. The dishes were all satisfying and delicious. The restaurant is called "Kushikatsu and Dashi Kushimon" located at 2-5-2 Ebisu Higashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka City. It's a 4-minute walk from Shin-Imamiya Station, open from 11:00 to 21:00 (last order at 20:00), and closed on no specific days. Contact them at 06-6643-2468, and check out their Instagram ID: kushiemon_osaka.

A trendy kushikatsu restaurant located right in the heart of a new world. While there are many traditional kushikatsu restaurants in the area, this new restaurant opened in April stands out. The interior and exterior are beautiful, making it a great spot for girls' nights out or dates. The kushikatsu has a light batter and the oil isn't heavy, making it very easy to eat. They offer not only sauce but also dashi soy sauce, dashi, and salt, allowing you to enjoy various flavors depending on the menu. The eel roll appetizer was especially delicious!

One of the popular kushikatsu restaurants in the Shinsekai area of Osaka. This area is known for its many kushikatsu restaurants, but this particular restaurant caught my eye with its stylish exterior that gives off a traditional Japanese restaurant vibe. As I had imagined from the exterior, the restaurant not only serves kushikatsu but also offers rice dishes and other small plates using dashi broth. For a casual drinking outing, I decided to try their recommended dish, the Chicken Tempura Udon. I also ordered the classic shrimp kushikatsu and a new-to-me eel kushikatsu. The shrimp was made with angel shrimp, and the texture was firm and delicious. The eel kushikatsu was different from the usual grilled eel, but it still had a light and flavorful taste of eel. Eating kushikatsu really makes you feel the essence of Osaka. The udon came in a surprisingly large bowl, almost like a sumo wrestler's bowl, but the portion was slightly smaller than a regular serving of udon. Perhaps they have their own unique way of serving it. The udon noodles had a good chewy texture and were very tasty. I highly recommend this place for a satisfying meal in Shinsekai. It offers a different experience from the typical kushikatsu restaurants in the area and is definitely a place worth checking out.

As a resident of Osaka, I don't have many opportunities to visit New World. I was hesitant to go for the classic kushikatsu, but decided to try a new restaurant I had never seen before! It looked like it had just opened and was beautiful. I love kushikatsu, but I also tried their special dish, which I think was a New World exclusive - mapo udon, I believe? It was authentically spicy and incredibly delicious. I definitely want to go back for more!

A beautiful restaurant that is not commonly seen around the vicinity of Tsutenkaku! It seems new. Many of the staff are foreigners, which makes the ordering and serving a bit disorganized and awkward. They need more time to get things running smoothly. The food and drinks are okay. They put effort into the presentation, but it feels like they need a little more.

A popular casual dining spot near Tsutenkaku where you can enjoy traditional and creative skewered cutlets with a special focus on dashi broth. The spacious interior is designed with a stylish modern Japanese aesthetic, featuring wooden furniture and natural tones. With a variety of seating options including table, terrace, and sunken kotatsu seating, you can relax in this urban chic atmosphere. The menu offers over 30 types of skewered cutlets, ranging from classic meats and vegetables to indulgent options like eel. In addition to cutlets, you can also enjoy appetizers, udon, and Akashiyaki. Don't miss the angel shrimp skewers or the luxurious wagyu and sea urchin cutlet. The vibrant pink mentaiko kamatama udon is a must-try, with chewy noodles and a flavorful sauce. Akashiyaki, a specialty of Hyogo Prefecture, features a unique mix of octopus, squid, shrimp, mentaiko, conger eel, and eel inside a soft pancake. You can top your dishes generously with bonito flakes for endless flavor variations. The restaurant is open for lunch and offers private dining rooms, as well as a spacious terrace where you can enjoy the bustling streets of Osaka. Kushiemon@kushiemon_osaka - Kushi Katsu and Dashi
A trendy new restaurant has appeared right near the bustling streets of Tsutenkaku! I went to a tasting event and tried:
- Kushi Katsu (Japanese beef, Japanese beef with sea urchin, angel prawn, salmon with egg, and baby kelp scallops)
- Akashiyaki octopus
- Mentaiko Kamatama Udon
- Nikudama Okaka Rice
The menu is filled with creative Kushi Katsu and Osaka-style dishes! The Kushi Katsu coating is thin and crispy, making it easy to eat as many as you want without feeling heavy. You can enjoy it with sauce, dashi soy sauce, or snow salt to suit your taste.
The udon, served in a large bowl reminiscent of a famous udon shop, has a great texture and is delicious. Some customers were enjoying a beer with 1-2 side dishes and finishing off with udon.
The Akashiyaki with plenty of eggs, dipped in their special dashi broth, was delicious. The exterior of the restaurant is surprisingly stylish, making you wonder if you are really in Shinsekai! The interior is spacious with counter seats, table seats, and even sunken kotatsu seating.
The tatami seating area is large enough to hold a judo match! The terrace seating seems to be dog-friendly. In the upcoming season, enjoying Kushi Katsu with a beer on the terrace sounds like a lot of fun.
They accept credit card payments and the restaurant is non-smoking.
