The experience at the restaurant was worse than the food itself. It was clear that they were short-staffed and not able to keep up. I usually give most restaurants a rating of 3.5 or higher, but this time I gave a 3.1 to Uo Isshin located on the 1st floor of Wing Bay Otaru. I will write a review based on facts, without exaggeration. After finishing a few weeks of work, I decided to go eat seafood. I had been to Uo Isshin at least 5 times before starting my food blog, and my impression was that it was a bit pricey but you could get decent Japanese food. However, it had been over 5 years since my last visit, so I went with a fresh perspective. I parked in the underground parking lot at Aeon as usual (parking is free) and headed to the restaurant. It was 11:02 when I arrived. As I tried to enter the restaurant, a staff member said, "Wait a moment!" It was a Sunday, so maybe it was already crowded. I tried to write my name in the reservation book at the reception. "Wait outside on the chairs and we will seat you in order." It felt like a typical Otaru experience. I'm used to it, so I just waited. After a few minutes, I was led inside. The staff informed me that it would take a while for the food to come out because a large group was already there. I said, "Okay." They asked if I wanted a table or a tatami room. I chose a table. The seating arrangement was a bit cramped with one extra chair squeezed in for our group of three. I looked at the menu. One of my companions pointed to the special seafood bowl (1,980 yen) and said, "You can order whatever you want! I'll treat you today! How about this?" Another companion planned to order the crab and salmon roe bowl for 1,580 yen. The third companion wanted the special Uo Isshin set meal for 1,380 yen, which included sushi, tempura, soba, and chawanmushi. I called the server over and ordered the special seafood bowl and the crab and salmon roe bowl. The server informed us that they were out of crab for the day. We ended up ordering a different dish for the companion who wanted crab. After a 25-minute wait, our food was finally served. The restaurant was quiet, not as crowded as it seemed. It seemed like there was a group dining in the tatami room, but it was surprisingly quiet. The special seafood bowl was disappointing. The slices of fish and seafood were thin and small, and the squid was difficult to chew because it wasn't properly sliced. The rice was overly sweet, and the amount was too much, making it hard to finish. I ended up leaving some of the rice, which my companion ate. Overall, it was a lackluster dining experience.
