On Saturday, August 5, 2023, I went to Osaka ahead of my soccer game excursion to Kyoto tomorrow. I watched a play by NODA・MAP at the New Kabuki Theater, and then went to find a bar here. The food was quick, easy, and delicious!

We made a reservation for 2 people but ended up adding 1 more person, making it 3. At first, there was some confusion but the man kindly accepted the change. The drinks were cheap and the food was delicious, with many items priced at only 300 yen. It was hard to believe that such a great restaurant existed. We will definitely visit again.

The place is cheap and delicious. It was a bit hard to find from the station, but once you get close, it's easy to spot. The staff is polite and quick to clear empty plates. The only downside is that the chairs don't have backrests, which can be tough on the lower back for older people. If it weren't for that, I would definitely go back. It was great to have the food cooked right in front of you and served immediately.

I went to Tanuki Chaya, a teppanyaki restaurant in Namba, Osaka. I had heard about this place before but it was my first time visiting. I wasn't expecting much because everything is priced at 300 yen, but the cost performance was surprisingly good. The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the teppanyaki counter and the atmosphere. I ordered the recommended dishes: chicken wings, scallops with butter, yam potato yamakaze, chicken skin with ponzu sauce, seafood assortment, butter-grilled potatoes, bonjiri, yakitori, grilled sea bream collar, and squid legs with soy sauce and butter. The grilled rice balls and clams were particularly good. The clams, in particular, were a great value for the price. The flavors were solid and the portions were generous. The Liki Maru Group is famous for its robatayaki izakaya with a uniform low price that I used to frequent since my student days. The interior has the classic robatayaki counter seats that Liki Maru is known for, as well as table seats in the back that are perfect for rowdy drunk groups. Today, I wanted to go somewhere new, so I decided to visit the famous Rikimaru Group's Tanuki Chaya in Osaka. The location in the heart of Namba is easily accessible. The prices are also reasonable, making it convenient. However, to be honest, the taste is not something to expect. The 300 yen dishes are kept cheap for a reason. The food is not particularly delicious. If you prioritize cost-effectiveness and accessibility, this place is excellent. But if you are looking for delicious food, you might want to try a different restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, so it might be a good place to have a drink or two.

The second bar I went to was called Robatayaki Tanuki Chaya, located about a 5-minute walk from Namba Station or Nipponbashi Station. It is a Robatayaki restaurant under the Rikimaru Group, where all Robatayaki dishes are priced at a flat rate of 300 yen each. Upon entering the restaurant, I was seated at a table, although I would have preferred a counter seat to fully experience the Robatayaki atmosphere. The drink menu consists of items priced at 300 yen each (including tax) for those without listed prices. I ordered a highball to start the evening and was served edamame as a complimentary appetizer. I proceeded to order various dishes from the menu, all priced at 300 yen each. I started with a Caesar salad topped with a soft-boiled egg, followed by a skewer assortment with 6 pieces. I also ordered a sashimi platter featuring tuna, yellowtail, octopus, and salmon. The menu also included deep-fried chicken, grilled squid, grilled onion, and grilled mackerel with salt. After enjoying a few highballs, I switched to sake and tried a Junmai sake from Nara Prefecture. The sake was generously poured and went well with the delicious skewers of red sausages and minced chicken. I also tried a dish of grated yam, which complemented the sake perfectly. It's been 3 months since I last visited this izakaya. Finally, we were able to celebrate my subordinate's promotion. We wanted to have a private conversation, so it was just the two of us. This restaurant is one of my favorites because it's cheap, delicious, and offers a wide variety of food. We were seated in a special spot in front of the robatayaki grill on the first floor. We enjoyed a platter of skewers, grilled salmon belly, chicken karaage, Caesar salad, grilled eggplant, grilled corn, and more. I made a reservation to experience the live feeling of teppanyaki at the counter, and came with my mother and my 6th grade daughter. The restaurant looks like a nice traditional Japanese inn, making me hesitate to enter. It was a Saturday night, and I arrived at 5:30 pm, so the restaurant was empty, but by 6:30 pm, the first floor was full. There is also a second floor, but I recommend sitting at the counter where you can see the grilled dishes being served on a large paddle, giving a sense of openness and variety. You can store your belongings in the chairs, which double as stools. Women wearing miniskirts might feel uncomfortable as there is a lot to see. Coats and umbrellas can be left with the staff. Despite most dishes and drinks being around 300 yen, they are all delicious and worth the price. The variety of seafood and grilled dishes is plentiful, so you won't get bored. The grilled green onions were particularly tasty. The staff recommended the seafood, and we also tried the large scallops! Some seafood dishes may be pricier, but they are definitely worth trying. When your drink is running low, the staff subtly checks in to take your order. The recommended shochu changes monthly, so you can enjoy different drinks as well.

Every time I passed by the shop, I was curious about the raccoon dog figurine at "Tanuki Teahouse." We used the second floor private room for a work gathering with about 10 people. Since it was my first visit and I didn't know what to expect, we chose the 3,500 yen course limited to 3 groups. This turned out to be the right choice.
