I saw Yukachan (HKT48's Yuka Akiyoshi) having Komeda morning set in Tokyo, so I wanted to try it too (it's called "matching activity" when you eat or go to the same place as your favorite idol). Oh, they have "Komeda Black" here! But it costs 680 yen. I noticed that the prices for the same items can vary depending on the store. The morning set comes with local jam (although many stores seem to be sold out now). In Fukuoka (and possibly all of Kyushu), they use Golden Kiwi jam from Saga Prefecture. Sorry, Yukachan! The Komeda Black coffee was quite lukewarm. It had a smooth taste without any bitterness. Maybe it needs to be brewed at this temperature. The toast was the usual 3.5 cm thick slice, nicely crispy. The jam had the texture of kiwi fruit, with a sweet taste rather than sour. Now that it's the right time, let's go to see Mr. West!

I decided to try the soft "Yataro Udon," but unfortunately, the shop was closed. So, I went to "Komeda Coffee Fukuoka Tenjin Minami Store" right across from Yataro Udon. The shop was quite busy for a Monday morning, with many people ordering breakfast. I sat at the counter and saw that there were 4 choices for morning sets: (A) Toast & boiled egg, (B) Toast & egg paste, (C) Toast & Nagoya's famous red bean paste, (D) Toast & Saga's famous Golden Kiwi jam. I chose the basic (C) Toast & Nagoya's famous red bean paste, and for the toast toppings, I chose butter. I also ordered a "Komeda Blend (plenty size)" coffee for 650 yen and added a "Mini Salad" for 250 yen, making the total 900 yen for breakfast. The food was served soon, and I enjoyed the red bean butter toast, which was slightly sweet but delicious with soft and fluffy bread. The salad was surprisingly generous in portion and tasty with two dressing options - Japanese style and homemade Thousand Island dressing. The "Komeda Blend (plenty size)" coffee was a generous serving with enough for two cups, one black and the other with milk added. Komeda Coffee is popular for breakfast, and I can see why - it's nice to leisurely enjoy breakfast on a day off. As for the final day of the Kyushu trip, I will do some souvenir shopping at Hakata Station before having the last lunch. In the evening, I will take a flight from Fukuoka Airport. I visited the Fukutoka Tenjin Minami branch of Komeda Coffee in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka. The location of the shop is on the first floor of a hotel along Kokutai-doro, about a 1-minute walk from Tenjin Minami Station on the subway. This was my second visit to this branch. It was around 2 pm on a weekday, and about 90% of the seats in the shop were occupied. I sanitized my hands at the entrance before entering. The shop has both table seating and counter seating. Although there was one table for 2 available and one seat at the counter, I was seated at the counter as I was alone. I ordered the "Jericho Original" (680 yen including tax), which was served in about 7 minutes. The drink was served, but unfortunately, they did not provide a straw (I had to go to where the staff was to get one). The Jericho Original is my favorite drink. It is iced coffee with coffee jelly and topped with plenty of whipped cream. The iced coffee at the Tenjin branch was served lukewarm and was a bit weak in flavor. The jelly had a nice texture and was delicious. When I had the Jericho Original in Nagoya, it was 580 yen, but in Fukuoka, it was 680 yen (750 yen in Tokyo). I was surprised that the price in Fukuoka was 100 yen higher than in Nagoya. The shop was quite busy, and the staff seemed quite rushed in their service, even forgetting to provide a straw. This was my first time using the counter seating at this branch, and there were no partitions like acrylic boards between the seats. Although the seats themselves were not cramped, the passage in front of the counter seating was narrow, and the distance between the counter seating and other table seating was close, making it feel quite crowded. After arriving in Fukuoka, I had planned to relax here until check-in time at the hotel after having lunch, but due to the crowded and uncomfortable feeling, I decided to leave soon after. Komeda offers a free choice of one Morning Set when you order a drink. The Morning Set A included toast and a boiled egg. The toast was served with butter and nicely toasted. It was simple but tasty. The boiled egg was served hot and I enjoyed it with a sprinkle of salt. The Honey Cafe au Lait had a hint of honey flavor and was topped with whipped cream. It was slightly sweet due to the whipped cream, but overall it was good. The service was polite, and the atmosphere was pleasant. While the pricing of the drinks may not make the Morning Set feel like a great deal, I would like to visit again for the cozy environment. Thank you for the meal.
