Maru Masu Gyoza Honten, which can be considered the holy land of gyoza, is recommended for those who like thin-skinned gyoza. In my ranking of pan-fried gyoza nationwide, this place is number one. I have known about this place for over 20 years, and so far, this is my favorite place for pan-fried gyoza. Do not underestimate it as just a gyoza restaurant, you must make a reservation by phone in advance to enter. You can only place one order. When making a reservation, you will be asked how many servings you want. You must tell them the total number of servings for the entire group when making a reservation. For first-timers, study in advance before making the call. ◎ One serving, 8 pieces for 340 yen ◎ Beer 630 yen Since the gyoza here are small with thin skin, if there are 5 people, you can finish it quickly. So, how many should you order? This varies depending on the individual, but in my case, I usually order about 6-8 servings per person. I order them to be cooked in 2-3 batches. One serving consists of 8 small thin-skinned gyoza, so for a small eater, 4-5 servings should be enough. Dip the gyoza in the sauce with spicy chili oil, and eat 2 pieces at a time. The outside is crispy, the inside is fluffy, and it has a strong ginger and garlic flavor. Since the skin is thin, you can eat a lot. Personally, Maru Masu is my favorite for pan-fried gyoza. The dumplings are small, with thin skins and a strong flavor. They have a slight spiciness, so you may not need chili oil. They are delicious even without dipping sauce. The best part was the large bottle of ice-cold beer. The hot, freshly cooked dumplings paired with the ice-cold beer were amazing! When making a reservation, they will ask if you want to dine in or take out, as well as how many dumplings you want. If you arrive at your reserved time, you can eat the dumplings with little to no wait. You may be able to order more, as there seems to be a turnover every hour. While you can take your time eating, many people seemed to eat quickly and pay right away. The counter seating is spacious and clean. The menu consists only of dumplings and beer. The restaurant is open from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, closed on Wednesdays. The restaurant's page on Tabelog mentions a parking lot, but I couldn't find it. However, since it's close to the station, there are many coin parking lots nearby, which are recommended for those driving. The closest coin parking lot charges 220 yen for 20 minutes, with a maximum of 330 yen at night.

In order to change that, I decided to make a reservation at the "Marumasa Gyoza Shop," known as the holy land of dumplings, as soon as reservations opened at 3:00 PM. However, I couldn't get through on the phone and wasted 8 minutes. By the time I finally got through, the earliest reservation available was at 8:00 PM. I didn't want to miss out on my dumpling luck, so I made a reservation for 8:00 PM. On this day, the young master was the one cooking ( ・ヘ・)アレーッ. Lately, I had been noticing the roundness of the master's back, and I wondered if he had already retired. - Gyoza (1 serving of 8 pieces for 380 yen x 6 servings) - Kirin Lager, large bottle (680 yen) The dumpling skin is extremely thin, so even slight differences in heat and moisture can greatly affect the texture and flavor. The ultra-thin dumpling skin looks as beautiful and orderly as always, but I think it has never been this perfectly uniform before. In other words, you can feel a crisp texture that is stronger than usual. The appearance is as usual, but the skin is crispy and has a strong texture, while the filling is moist, creating an enjoyable contrast ( ゚Д゚)ウマー. When looking at the dumpling wrapping, it seems to have less moisture than usual, but this may be a seasonal change in the ingredients. I have been eating Marumasa Gyoza for decades, but just savoring the taste will never reveal the secret of the filling. Most dumpling specialty shops use pork, but Marumasa Gyoza uses beef mince. Even looking at the filling, there are only vegetables and a small amount of oil in the perfect grilling. Even with this knowledge, I still can't fully understand the delicious and mysterious sensation that keeps me coming back. The sweetness of the vegetables is strong, and I look forward to the filling from late winter to early spring, as well as the filling with fresh ginger in October, which was delicious in my memory. I visited the second stop of my "Gyoza Pilgrimage." Maruhashi Gyoza Honten is a famous restaurant that currently holds the highest rating in the "Gyoza Hyakumeiten 2021" on Tabelog. According to reviews from previous visitors, it is essential to make a reservation in advance, and even getting through on the phone for a reservation can be challenging. It seems like quite a high hurdle to visit this gyoza restaurant. So, I used up one of my precious paid days off and decided to make a surprise visit on a certain weekday. Six adults and three children ordered 80 servings of dumplings. However, halfway through, everyone's appetite slowed down, and it turned out that the dumplings were not as small as expected. Despite being told that each person could handle 10 servings, it was not the case. We were also informed that it would take 20 minutes for the dumplings to be ready, so we decided to order all 80 servings at once. However, the information was incorrect, and the dumplings arrived sooner than expected. We ended up taking 20 servings to go and enjoyed them with beer on a hot summer day.

This seems to be a hidden gem of a restaurant. When making a reservation, they asked how many servings we wanted. This was so they could prepare the order in time for our arrival. My friend and I ordered 7 servings and saw others ordering even more. The menu only offers dumplings, and the drink options are limited to beer and soft drinks.

First of all, the reservation desk opens at 3:00 pm, but it was difficult to get through on the phone! I was lucky to finally get through on my 25th try. When asked about available time slots, I was told 5:00 pm was the earliest, so I decided to take it. Orders are placed over the phone based on timing. It's recommended to order at least 3 servings per person. If you're looking to eat gyoza, you should be able to finish them all in no time. The gyoza are small, with thin skin, and filled with a flavorful mix of ginger and garlic-infused vegetables. The shape is beautiful, and I'm glad I went.

I made a reservation for my first visit at "Marumasa Gyoza-ten Honten" at 17:00 on a Monday in July (a public holiday). This gyoza restaurant is extremely popular and located a 6-7 minute walk from JR Suminoe Station. I had to call multiple times to make a reservation for dining in, which is only accepted by phone starting at 15:00 on the same day. I arrived a little earlier than my scheduled time and was able to be seated immediately. The restaurant has an L-shaped counter with a maximum capacity of about 8 people. There were only 2 groups of 4 customers at the same time as me, so it was spacious and relaxed. The menu is very simple, offering only pan-fried gyoza and beer for dining in. I pre-ordered 4 servings of pan-fried gyoza for 1,520 yen and a large bottle of beer for 680 yen. The gyoza was beautifully cooked with a glossy appearance. I enjoyed the crispy and chewy texture of the skin and the well-balanced filling of vegetables and meat. The gyoza was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating. The beer was especially refreshing on that hot day. The gyoza arrived right on time at 17:00, and I savored every bite. I had a pleasant dining experience and finished my meal in about 20 minutes. I heard that there is a popular gyoza specialty restaurant in a downtown area slightly east of Osaka city, so I made a reservation by phone and went to try it out. However, I had a tough time with the phone reservation. After calling about 20 times, I finally got through when they said they could only accommodate me after 8 pm. I didn't mind the time, so I killed time until 8 pm and headed to the restaurant. Since I had made a reservation, I was seated and soon the gyoza arrived with a bottle of beer, which was the only item on the menu. The gyoza were small, with thin skins and a vegetable-based filling. They had a strong garlic and ginger flavor, but were so small and light that you could eat as many as you wanted. They were a unique kind of gyoza that didn't resemble those from any other restaurant. The dipping sauce options were vinegar soy sauce and spicy chili oil, but I personally found the vinegar soy sauce to be delicious enough on its own. The chili oil could be used for those who wanted a bit of heat. There was also a container provided for discarding the sauce if you didn't like the flavor combination. Inside the counter, the staff were diligently wrapping gyoza one after another. The skins of the raw gyoza were so thin that you could see through them, and they were wrapped with care. Since there was no rice or noodles on the menu, both the staff and customers were completely focused on the gyoza. It's a place that gyoza lovers would absolutely enjoy. I'm glad I managed to get through on the phone and visit this restaurant.

I checked the food log and found out that reservations are essential. I tried calling from 15:00 before the opening time, but couldn't get through. After 70 attempts, I finally got through and managed to reserve a table for 17:00. The restaurant is only a 10-minute walk from the station. When asked how many people, I said two, but was informed that they usually take orders for three or more people. I ordered for three and was seated promptly. Surprisingly, we were the only customers there. The gyoza was amazing and worth the reservation hassle. It was a perfect dining experience, even though I wondered why there was only one group dining there. It would be great if more people could experience this wonderful place.

Reservation was confirmed for 5:40 PM, and they requested us to come to the restaurant 5 minutes before the dumplings were ready. I rode my bike with plenty of time to spare! Daito City is a rural area, so there were plenty of places to park my bike. After trying the dumplings for the first time, I thought they were okay. They were tasty, soft, and easy to eat because of their small size, but they weren't exceptionally delicious. Also, they were quite expensive, so I won't be going back there again. I had been curious about this gyoza restaurant for a long time. It is a gyoza shop near Suminoe Station in Taisho, Osaka. Currently, they operate on a fully reservation basis, so I called around 4 pm and went to pick up the gyoza at 5:05 pm as instructed. When I entered the shop, I saw two cute girls and an old man making gyoza. They politely bowed as I left the shop. When I tried the gyoza, it had a strong garlic flavor and the skin was similar to xiaolongbao, very different from the gyoza at Gyoza no Ohsho that I like. I usually prefer the sweeter gyoza at Gyoza no Ohsho, so I thought the taste might be similar, but as I ate it, I found it addictive and delicious. When I tried dipping it in the sauce provided, I felt like I couldn't stop eating. It was a gyoza with a strong garlic flavor and addictive taste. ⭕️ I would rate the taste as 3.8. ⭕️ If the cost performance is good, it would be perfect. ⭕️ The female staff were excellent.

Today we're going! Got a mini complaint from my wife asking when I'll take her. Explained the situation - "Can't eat without a reservation, only same-day reservations." "Well then, invite our daughter too." Called to make a reservation a little after 3:00 PM - got connected right away. Reservation for 3 people at 19:20 with 12 servings confirmed. Why were all the 19:00 slots full? Oh well, daughter had to cancel due to work, so just me and my wife. Reservation change has been made. Arrived at 17:05. Told them about the reservation and got seated at the counter. It's more spacious than last time. Gyoza served to the customers before us, I also got a bottle of beer. Got 4 servings and 2 servings of gyoza. Gave 4 servings to my wife, who said she couldn't finish it. Had 2 bottles of beer. My wife probably had 3.5 servings. Enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal! It's delicious after all! Oh, the gyoza is small, so my wife can easily finish 3 servings. Just to clarify, she's not a big eater (excuse).

Marumasa, a popular gyoza restaurant in Osaka. I was so happy to be able to visit for a shoot! It was quite a challenge for me to go there (crying). I hope they open a store in Kyoto. The gyoza has thin skin with lots of vegetables, a slightly spicy seasoning (maybe ginger?), and most importantly, they are expertly cooked! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside! Even in my 60s, I could easily enjoy 24 pieces (3 servings) with delight. Thank you so much!

The feeling of happiness fills me on the way back home (*¯︶¯♡)ウットリ The great thing about this place is that if you feel like going, same-day reservations are okay. I changed my plans to visit Suminoe just to have Marumasa Gyoza-ten's gyoza. I ordered gyoza (1 serving of 8 pieces for 380 yen x 6 servings) and a large bottle of Kirin Lager (680 yen). In Osaka, there are many thin-skinned gyoza specialty shops, but if you trace their roots, you often end up at Marumasa Gyoza-ten. About 10 years ago, there were many places in Osaka claiming to have "Marumasa's gyoza," including a certain shop in Kadoma that even went to court over it. At that time, there was a misconception about what Marumasa's gyoza really tasted like... but now, there is no other place that can call themselves a Marumasa Gyoza-ten! Even the shops run by former Marumasa Gyoza-ten staff have a completely different taste in their filling, cooking method, and gyoza skin. The gyoza wrapped in an extremely thin skin with a generous amount of filling is sealed tightly. The thin skin absorbs the umami of the filling, and the high heat emulsifies it, creating a crispy skin. The perfect amount of moisture in the filling, combined with the sharpness of the ginger, is just amazing. Once you start eating, you can't stop! No matter how many times I visit, the freshly grilled gyoza is always the best. Takeout is also delicious, but freshly grilled is definitely better. Even girls can easily eat three servings of these light dumplings with lots of vegetables and a subtle balance of meat. It would be nice to have lemon chu-hi as a drink option, instead of just beer. The older men and women were making dumplings at an unusually fast pace, until I realized that it was actually the cute young ladies who were making them. Thank you for the meal!

Second visit. While driving near Osaka Station, I suddenly felt like eating gyoza and called around 9pm. They ask for the number of servings when making a phone reservation. They won't cook more than that. Since the size is small, I ordered 3 servings, but we finished them quickly. When we entered, they were already sold out. They are open until around 1am, but I guess they often sell out before that time? The location is not great, but there is a parking lot nearby, so I will definitely go again.

I wanted to clear out the leftovers from my hearty lunch, so I decided to order 6 servings to start. While I never leave any food uneaten, they do offer the option to take leftovers home (for a container fee of 30 yen). If you want to eat more, it's recommended to order extra servings in advance (*¯ ꒳¯*). ○Dumplings (1 serving, 8 pieces, 380 yen x 6 servings) ○Beer (Kirin Lager, large bottle, 680 yen) The large amount of dumplings neatly arranged on the big iron plate were all reserved in advance. The dumplings, hand-wrapped on the same day, are served fresh, making the grilled dumplings a masterpiece that cannot be replicated. Eating freshly grilled dumplings at the restaurant is the best way to enjoy them. Two dumplings at a time is just right. Although the dumplings are small, the filling is packed tightly without any gaps, providing a satisfying texture and flavor. The filling of the dumplings is perfectly calculated, and the taste and texture are exceptional. Ten years ago, the dumplings used to have a stronger garlic flavor, but over time, ginger has become more prominent. I was searching for the most delicious gyoza in Osaka and came across this restaurant. I made a reservation and visited on the same day. I ordered 2 servings of gyoza for 760 yen. As someone with little experience with gyoza, I found them to have thin skins and be on the smaller side, which made me feel like I could eat them endlessly if I were really hungry.
