I sometimes feel like I want to eat a lunch that is full of vegetables and good for my body! If possible, I prefer a combination of vegetable-based Japanese side dishes and brown rice. On this day, I chose to visit this place from a few options I had bookmarked.
1. The outside appearance, atmosphere, and interior of the restaurant I had bookmarked, "Hanayo," were closed due to the influence of the coronavirus. Disappointed, I looked back and saw a tanuki statue at the entrance of this place, which had a similar name and the keyword "Omi," so I decided to enter. The spacious interior at the back had slightly dimmed lighting, creating a moody atmosphere. The tables were adequately spaced apart, providing a sense of comfort.
2. About the food, the lunch menu was quite extensive. A budget-friendly option was the "Omi Vegetable Daily Special Set Meal," where you can also enjoy Omi beef in dishes like beef bowl, teppanyaki, and steak. I ordered the "Omi Beef Tendon and Omi Vegetable Sukiyaki Set Meal," which was affordable and included Omi beef. First, a "Omi Vegetable Salad" was served, and the best part was that it was all-you-can-eat! It included komatsuna, lettuce, kale, cucumber, nuts, and more. The dressing, which was popular, didn't suit my taste as it lacked acidity, making me feel like I was eating raw vegetables with soy sauce. However, to make up for the lack of vegetables and being thrifty, I cheekily asked for seconds.
Next, the "Omi Beef Tendon and Omi Vegetable Sukiyaki Set Meal" was served. The sukiyaki dish was heated on a small stove, piping hot. It featured tender and simmered Omi beef tendons with plenty of root vegetables like pumpkin. The taste was sweeter than I expected, honestly a bit too sweet for me, but maybe that's the Kansai style. The side dishes included "Harima Red Konjac and Moriyama Soybean Arima-ni," "Potato and Fushimi Red Pepper Tempura," and "Purple Onion and Cucumber Soy Sauce Seasoning," all of which were seasoned to bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients. Additionally, there was chawanmushi with Omi beef pieces, which felt like a good deal.
The brown rice Omi rice and bonito dashi miso soup were also carefully made and tasted delicious. Despite being mainly vegetable-based, the meal was filling enough, leaving me satisfied.
3. About the staff's service, there were two male staff members managing the restaurant. They were polite and kind in their greetings, seating arrangements, and overall service, without any noticeable issues. They promptly brought the salad refills, and I had no particular concerns.
4. About the cost-performance ratio, the sukiyaki dish was a bit too sweet for my liking, but the other side dishes and salad were enjoyable. The restaurant's atmosphere and the staff's service were pleasant, and I believe the cost-performance ratio is good.
5. Other things I noticed, etc. I would like to visit "Hanayo" when it reopens.
