If you're feeling lost, head to Makino Udon! There are various branches such as Kaburimotomise, Katae, Imajuku, Shusenji, Watada, Hayatoetomi, Imari, Mikawauchi, Nijo, Onojo, Nada, Shirozu, Marinatown, Shingu, Airport, Hisayama, Tosu, and Hakata Bus Terminal, but if you're unsure, go to the Katae branch (lol). The other day, I had Croquette Udon for 430 yen, Niku Soba for 570 yen, and Karaage for 170 yen. I visited on a weekday, and the place was packed with a line forming outside. It's always been a popular spot, but with the cold weather, it seems like more people are craving udon. The group of male students next to me added Imo Tempura to their Niku Gobo Udon. I tried the "Miso Udon" for 510 yen, which I had been curious about for a while. I also added an egg, but I forgot the total cost. I imagined a miso soup-like broth, but it came with a topping of meat miso. You can choose the firmness of the noodles from hard, medium, to soft, and I went with hard for that authentic Sanuki Udon texture. There were also customers getting Udon sets (noodles, broth, green onions, tempura) for takeout. It was a satisfying meal, and there were also options for New Year's Eve soba takeout.
