When it comes to a finishing touch in Osaka, it's not ramen but katsu udon. I arrived around 9pm and ordered Kitsune Katsu Udon for 927 yen at a table. The noodles were chewy like Osaka-style udon. The katsu had more fatty parts than crispy ones. The broth was very delicious.

Wow, it's fast. The dish was served in less than 5 minutes. The crispy fried tempura bits added a delightful texture. The broth was also flavorful. By ordering a small size udon, I was able to enjoy the Tamagokake Gohan as well. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. The sparkling atmosphere truly uplifts the spirits. I had some errands nearby, so I stopped by for a late lunch on my way back. As a fan of condiments, I ordered the katsu udon with pickled plum topping. I'm not sure if it's the location or the time of day, but all the customers here were men, except for me. However, it's not that women are unwelcome. The service is very fast. The udon was delicious with plenty of condiments. The balance of oil and condiments in the katsu udon was just right and to my liking. Payment is cash only.

When it comes to Kasuya Udon, the Kasuya chain's Motomachi branch is located about 10 minutes from Namba Station. The interior of the restaurant is cramped and cluttered, with splash prevention dividers that don't match the size of the tables, making it quite difficult to eat comfortably. I ordered the Curry Kasuya Udon. Honestly, the balance between the broth and curry was good, and the taste was consistent with Kasuya's standard, but over 1,000 yen is just too expensive.

I wandered around looking to eat Kasu Udon and finally ended up here. There are several shops in this area. The main shop was closed for the day, and other shops were temporarily closed. Some shops opened at 10 pm, but I finally made it here. Kasu refers to pork meat scraps. It's something you can only eat in Osaka. I had the Kasu Udon for 680 yen. The udon noodles were at the level of frozen udon, but the broth and pork meat scraps were incredibly delicious. The broth is probably made from bonito flakes and kelp, with very little sweetness like mirin. It has a slightly strong soy sauce flavor but not spicy, just tasty. The pork meat scraps are dry and crispy, but full of unique umami flavor. I couldn't resist and ended up buying a two-meal set and some pork meat scraps as souvenirs. On this day, I came to Namba for work. It's been years since I last visited, maybe about 6 years ago. I used to come around here for work, and sometimes I would have katsu udon for lunch. So, I decided to visit this place again since it was almost lunchtime. When I entered the restaurant, there were three other customers already there, so I sat at the counter. The staff seemed busy as there was only one person attending to everything. I ordered from the menu, and soon after, onigiri was served. The katsu udon cost 638 yen, and during weekdays at lunchtime, you get two free onigiri. The katsu in the udon was crispy at first, but then it softened as it soaked in the broth. The broth had a slight sweetness to it, and the umami flavor was perfect. The udon noodles had a light chewiness, typical of Osaka-style udon. Overall, the broth, onigiri, and udon were delicious.

I went to Kasuya Namba Motomachi store for dinner today. It was conveniently located on my way back to the hotel. Despite the impact of the new coronavirus, they seem to be open until quite late. I ordered my usual Kasu Udon with extra toppings and also some rice balls. The combination of Kasu Udon and rice balls is just perfect. The Kasu Udon for dinner was superb as always. It's really delicious. I can see why they are able to expand their chain.

I visited a shrine near here that I had wanted to go to for a long time, and stopped by on my way back. I ordered the katsu udon, of course. I heard that at lunchtime, it comes with onigiri, but I wanted to have a quick meal so I just asked for the udon. When the udon arrived...I was a little disappointed because there was not much katsu. I really wanted to eat Kasu Udon, so I went to KASUYA (´∀`). This is a popular sister store in Hozoji Yokocho, but the menu seems to be a little different depending on the store... [Osaka Curry Tour Part 8] After eating curry three times that day, I took a leisurely stroll through the city to work up an appetite for my next meal. I realized that I hadn't tried anything typical of Osaka yet. After checking online, I found a chain restaurant nearby that a friend recommended, "KASUYA Namba Motomachi Store." Osaka is also famous for its udon noodles, and I was curious about "katsu udon." Katsu udon uses oil-fried intestines of beef, where the excess oil is removed over time, leaving behind the concentrated flavor of the meat. Perfect for a fan of offal like me! And to my delight, they also had curry udon on the menu! Just right for a pre-dinner snack. The curry udon had a subtle curry flavor with a tempting aroma. The slightly transparent curry broth had a rich flavor from the oil-fried intestines. The noodles had a chewy texture, and the oil-fried intestines added a satisfying depth of flavor. It was different from the usual meat udon, and I thoroughly enjoyed slurping the noodles and munching on the oil-fried intestines. During lunchtime, ordering udon comes with up to two free onigiri (shiso and bonito). A great system for foodies, but since it was my fourth meal of the day and dinner was still ahead, I decided to stick with one onigiri (laughs). Oh, pairing the udon with onigiri was definitely the right choice! Noodles and rice really do go well together. Itadakimasu!

I really love Kansui Udon! A lesser-known Osaka specialty, Kansui Udon from the chain restaurant Kasuya! The main store is probably in Kawachi? Let me tell you, it's incredibly delicious. Made with Osaka dashi and oil, it's the best. You can easily finish the soup until the last drop. It's even okay to drink it all up! Kasuya also offers snacks and alcohol, so it's a great place to come for a light drink. On this day, I had Kansui Udon and Kasuya's Gyudon! The Gyudon seems to be an original menu item?
