I visited for the first time. I had been looking at it on Tabelog for a while, but I hadn't had the time to go until today. I love Sichuan cuisine, especially Chen Kenichi's mapo tofu and tantanmen, so I was looking forward to it. However, when I tried the food, it didn't really feel like Sichuan cuisine, and I didn't feel the spiciness of sansho pepper. It was more like a strong taste of pepper and salt. It wasn't to my liking, but there were regular customers who seemed to enjoy it. I thought it must be loved by the locals. Thank you!

Waruyu Onga Chinese Bar, a casual Chinese bar where you can choose from various options. Located near Onga Kawagawa Station, it transforms into a casual Chinese spot during lunchtime. There are parking spaces for 2 cars next to the restaurant and one along the street. I arrived a little early for lunch and quickly sat down. The top menu item, tantanmen, caught my eye. You can choose the spiciness level from 0 to 6 for free. I opted for level 5 to play it safe. When asked if I wanted a single item, I decided to go for the mini fried rice set. The tantanmen arrived soon after. The soup was indeed spicy, but not extremely so. The thin curly noodles were delicious, although the soup had turned red from the spiciness. I managed to finish it without any issues, despite choking once. Moving on to the fried rice, it was a generous portion and had a savory flavor with a hint of soy sauce. Overall, it was tasty, but the regular tantanmen looked more appetizing. I look forward to trying the mapo tofu curry rice next time. Thank you for the meal!

Visited on Monday around 13:30. The floor was slightly slippery. One customer was already there. Ordered the Spicy Tantanmen for ¥800 with a spice level of 2 (medium). Also got the Mampuku Set for ¥300, chose the Mini Mapo Don from the four mini rice bowl options. It was served in about 7 minutes. The spice level 2 was a bit lacking in flavor. The noodles were thin and slightly curly, lacking in firmness. The Mapo Don had a spicy kick from the Sichuan pepper. The rice was a bit clumpy. Thank you for the meal.

When you search Tabelog, you can find some interesting restaurants if you dig deep enough. One such restaurant is "Chuka Bar Buyu" which is owned by the apprentice of the famous chef "Chen Kenichi" from "Iron Chef". The town where this restaurant is located, Onga-cho, is unique in Fukuoka prefecture as it is the only town referred to as "cho". The area used to be a bay which was reclaimed during the Edo period for new land development. The restaurant is located right in the center of town, in front of the station. The parking lot is small and a bit difficult to maneuver, so it's better to ask the staff for guidance. The restaurant itself is a bit hard to find as the entrance is not very visible from the outside. The interior gives off a bar or night club vibe, which might confuse first-time visitors. The food is delicious, especially the mapo tofu, but the lack of welcoming atmosphere due to the building's layout is a drawback. The owner is friendly and the air conditioning works well, making it a comfortable dining experience. The mapo tofu dish is authentic and served in a sizzling hot pot, enticing anyone with its aroma.

On the second day of the consecutive holidays, I decided to relax in my local area. I visited a Chinese bar called "Buyu" near Ongagawa Station that I had been curious about for a while, as I heard they also serve lunch. My main target was the "ordinary fried rice," but when I heard about their authentic "mapo tofu," I couldn't resist ordering that as well! Both dishes came in regular size, and as usual, I ate a lot (laughs). The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes after ordering. The "ordinary fried rice" was moist and seasoned perfectly with salt and pepper, making it one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had. I was extremely satisfied. On the other hand, the "mapo tofu" from the Chen Jianyi tradition arrived bubbling hot! I ordered it with a spice level of 2 (normal), but it was still quite spicy! My mouth was tingling from the heat, but the dish also had a rich flavor that I enjoyed. I highly recommend this authentic Sichuan cuisine restaurant!

I visited "Chinese Bar Wu Yu" in front of JR Ongagawa Station for the first time. This Chinese restaurant is known for its signature dish, Chen's Mapo Tofu, which is said to be passed down directly from Chen Jianyi. The Mapo Tofu (800 yen) is undoubtedly delicious, but since I have found another Mapo Tofu that I like, I decided to try a different menu item. The menu offers a variety of cold noodle dishes, so I tried the Cold Sour and Spicy Noodles (900 yen). The dish was elegantly presented in a stainless steel bowl with toppings such as meat miso, lettuce, cucumber, fried potatoes, bean sprouts, baby corn, cherry tomatoes, and oranges. Although there was plenty of black pepper, the sourness and spiciness were not as strong as I had hoped, leaving me somewhat unsatisfied. The medium-thin noodles had a nice texture, so I would like to try other menu items if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.

A Chinese restaurant located in front of Onga River Station. It seems to have moved from Munakata and further relocated within the same town to its current location. I was intrigued by the fact that it is the beloved disciple of Chen Jianyi (refer to the website) and visited during lunch on weekdays. - Soupless Dan Dan noodles (weekday lunch) 800 yen (tax included) *Ordered the lowest level of spiciness Served in a stylish bowl overflowing with frilly lettuce, bean sprouts, and a mix of Sichuan pepper spices. Curly noodles. Underneath the noodles is a richly flavored sauce. To start, the stylish bowl is lovely but too small to mix comfortably. I think it would be less stressful if it were larger. The taste is fragrant, rich in umami, and rounded, delicious. However, it also feels like a flavorful and savory "abura soba." This may be because I told the owner that I am not good with very spicy food, so they provided it with less spiciness. The original soupless Dan Dan noodles are likely quite spicy, so the lack of the numbing spice may have made it difficult to bring out its distinctive characteristics this time. The thickness of the sauce may also have been adjusted to balance with a certain level of spiciness. In any case, it was my fault for ordering "soupless" despite not liking very spicy food. I assume that the true deliciousness of the Dan Dan noodles here is not reflected in this review. Therefore, I had planned to try the "with soup" Dan Dan noodles next time, but due to the current situation, it is difficult for me to go out of town just for lunch. So for now, I have only posted a photo of the soupless noodles. I apologize to the owner for this post. When the situation allows, I will visit again. (Rating will be given next time) (971)

Other people have mentioned this as well, but the appearance of the store makes it feel unwelcoming. Even when you enter, the narrow passageways make it hard to see inside, almost making you want to turn back. However, the food was very delicious.
