Located along the Nogoe Jiro Maru Line that runs east-west on the north side of Tamura in Sawara-ku, Fukuoka City, is the Chinese noodle and set meal restaurant "Daiming Tantanmen." This restaurant was opened in 1996 by Zhu Daming, who hails from Chongqing, China, the home of Sichuan cuisine, and also serves as a director of the World Chinese Cuisine Association. It is a sister restaurant to the Chinese and Sichuan cuisine restaurant "China Daming Hot Pot City" in Momochi, Sawara-ku. The menu at Daiming Tantanmen focuses on Sichuan-style Chinese noodles and set meals. Sichuan cuisine is known for its variety of flavors, with two main types of soup available: the spicy and fragrant "mala tang" and the rich and flavorful chicken broth "baitang." Popular noodle dishes include the "tantanmen" with a spicy mala tang base, the "beef noodle" with maximum spiciness, the "wonton and chicken egg noodle," the "seafood noodle," and the rare "pork foot noodle." For set meals, the "best set" includes the popular "tantanmen" and fried rice, while the "mapo tofu and fried rice set meal" features the signature dish of China Daming Hot Pot City, mapo tofu, along with fried rice, soup, and pickles. The restaurant has a spacious parking lot with space for 15 cars, making it easy to drop by. On a weekday lunch break, I had planned to go to China Daming Hot Pot City in Wagaya Soba for the numbingly spicy "tantanmen." However, I missed the timing and ended up arriving at Daiming Tantanmen during the busy lunch hour. Not wanting to wait in line, I decided to try the same "tantanmen" here instead. The restaurant was a single-story Western-style building with a spacious parking lot, and I was quickly seated at the counter. The ordering process was done through a touch panel ticket vending machine, and I soon received my "tantanmen." The soup had a strong aroma of chopped green onions and Sichuan peppercorns, signaling the impending spiciness. It was a fast and efficient dining experience, with the self-service iced water and hot oolong tea adding to the convenience. The soup had a fiery kick from the "Pixian bean paste" and house-made "spicy oil," followed by the umami of chicken broth and sesame paste. It was a delicious and satisfying meal in a relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere.

Fukuoka's pioneering Sichuan-style Chinese and spicy noodle restaurant, "Daiming Tantanmen." Since 1996, this restaurant has been serving authentic Sichuan cuisine at the Chinese restaurant "Daiming Huoguo Cheng," and now has several dining-style branches in the city. The specialties are tantanmen and mapo tofu. While I haven't tried the tantanmen much, I have been a repeat customer for the mapo tofu, Sichuan beef noodles, and pig's feet noodles. This time, I visited the Tamura branch in Sawara-ku, Fukuoka. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a cafe-style setting and about 10 parking spaces on-site. It's popular among young customers, as it is located near Fukuoka Dental College and Fukuoka Nursing University. During lunchtime, set meals seem to be popular. First, I purchased a meal ticket from the machine. Here are the recommended menu items. This time, I tried the noodle dishes. The calm interior of the restaurant has table seating. The Sichuan motsu (offal) noodles cost 860 yen. Similar to the Sichuan beef noodles, the base soup is light, but with a generous blend of chili oil, it becomes a slightly heavier and spicy soup. It is a spicy noodle dish with Sichuan-style simmered offal on top. The pork offal, which is not greasy, has a chewy texture. The noodles are thin and flat, allowing the soup to mix well. If you finish the soup, it won't be extremely spicy, so I enjoyed it until the end. You can adjust the spiciness with the chili oil on the table if it's not spicy enough. There are also non-spicy menu items available. This is the Wonton noodles, a Chongqing specialty, with five large wontons on top, costing 820 yen. The wonton filling is quite sticky, perhaps due to the high proportion of binder. The soup has a light flavor with a slight aroma of dried shrimp. The noodles are thin. Truly a Fukuoka-style Chinese restaurant! Noodle dishes come with the option of extra noodles. You can get extra noodles for 180 yen, and the type of noodles varies depending on the menu. This is the extra noodles for the Wonton noodles, so they are thin noodles. Thank you for the meal. Most customers around me were enjoying the set meals with tantanmen or mapo tofu. On a weekend afternoon, even in the suburbs, all the food shops are crowded with customers. However, this place is not so busy. The parking lot is empty and there are plenty of seats inside the restaurant. The reason for this became clear after tasting the food. It's not bad, in fact, it's quite delicious. The reason for the lack of customers is that the restaurant serves Sichuan cuisine, which is not for everyone. I ordered the daily set meal with Kōrā shān là jī dīng (is it pronounced Shanrajiiding?) and mapo tofu for 880 yen, the set meal with dan dan noodles and fried rice for 880 yen, and water dumplings for 490 yen. I purchased the meal tickets from the touch panel ticket machine and placed my order in Chinese to the kitchen. The food arrived relatively quickly. I tried the dan dan noodles first. The spiciness hit my taste buds immediately, and I choked on it. It's spicy. It's definitely spicier than the main store, China Daming Fire Hot Pot City (my spiciness tolerance is average). I tried again, being careful not to choke, but I choked again. After choking three times, I finally calmed down. I could hear people at other tables also choking. This is quite spicy. It's spicier than the cup ramen, Seven's Mongolian Tanmen Nakamoto, which is my limit for spiciness. It's even spicier than the Chalmera Miyazaki Spicy Noodles, which I wouldn't buy because it's too spicy. The spiciness comes from the chili oil. The soup in the dan dan noodles is full of chili oil, so the spiciness is doubled with the first bite. Once I got used to it, I found the noodles to be delicious with a hint of sesame in the soup and well-matched savory minced beef. The mapo tofu and spicy chicken were a bit spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The fried rice and water dumplings were like an oasis in the scorching desert. The water dumplings had a homemade feel to them, and the fried rice was of high quality. While there were no high-priced items like shark fin on the menu, the taste of the dishes matched the high standards of the main store, and the pursuit of the ma la flavor was quite unique. Despite breaking a sweat after the meal, I felt a refreshing sensation beyond the spiciness. Considering the quality and quantity of the food, the prices are lower than the main store, making it a great value for money. However, this restaurant caters to those who enjoy spicy food, making it a place for connoisseurs.

I want to eat Dan Dan noodles, and my husband specifically wanted the spicy version, so I searched and found this place. It is a popular Chinese restaurant chain with its main store in Fujisaki. It seems to only operate during lunchtime, with a spacious parking lot available. Many customers seem to enjoy spicy food, as most tables were full except for one table and counter seats. We purchased our meal tickets from the ticket machine. My husband ordered the Dan Dan noodles (for some reason, only large size was available for 750 yen), and I ordered the daily lunch set (880 yen). The Dan Dan noodles arrived in about 2-3 minutes, and the soup with minced meat looked very spicy. Surprisingly, my husband found it tolerable. The noodles were thin and straight, similar to tonkotsu ramen, but my husband, who prefers curly noodles, didn't like them. I thought not all dishes would be spicy, so I chose the daily lunch set, but I was wrong. The main dish was "Spicy Chicken," and I didn't notice the "Spicy" character until later. As soon as I put the chicken in my mouth, I choked on the spiciness. It's bearable once you get used to it, and the flavor isn't bad, but it was too spicy for me. The mapo tofu was also spicy, so I skillfully scooped out only the tofu. Even the greens were spicy. Luckily, the soup was not spicy. The rice quality was average. In the end, I gave up after eating about 1/3 of the meal, and my husband finished the rest. More customers kept coming in after we arrived, so it seems like many people enjoy spicy food here. My mouth was numb for a while after eating.

Sometimes I crave beef noodle soup. It's a bit disappointing that this shop's version doesn't have Sichuan peppercorns in it. When I came back after a long time, I found out that they had replaced the ticket machine, and by chance, I got a "winning" ticket that gave me a free meat bun. I will definitely come back again!

During this time, I visited to have lunch. Despite the current situation, popular restaurants are crowded with lines. I don't have the courage to visit such places, so I aim for restaurants with fewer customers. This time, I visited "Daiming Tantanmen". As expected, there was only one group of customers during lunchtime. The interior of the restaurant is spacious like a family restaurant, almost like a private room. I purchased the meal ticket in advance at the ticket machine. This time, I ordered the usual "Tantanmen (large) 670 yen". When I handed the meal ticket to the staff, they asked, "Would you like rice as a service?" Of course, I asked for rice. I could hear loud conversations in Chinese from the kitchen... The food arrived in about 5 minutes. The soup was moderately red with minced meat and green onions in the center. I also found lettuce. When I slurped the soup, it had a decent spiciness from the chicken bone Chinese soup with chili oil, doubanjiang, and Sichuan pepper. Surprisingly, it was light and delicious. The noodles were thin and straight. Eating rice at the same time helped to balance the spiciness. I ended up finishing the soup as well. There weren't many customers, but the taste was simply delicious. PS. I will also upload the "Mapo Tofu Noodles" that I had before. It was even spicier than the Tantanmen, with less soup. The noodles were even finer. It tasted like a sauce-covered noodles and was delicious.

In May 2020, during lunchtime around here, I visited "Fukuchan Ramen" for the first time in search of spiciness, even in these times. Surprisingly, there was a line even in such circumstances! Although there were about 10 parking spaces, only one car was parked. When I entered, I found myself the only customer, almost like having a private reservation. I wondered briefly at the ticket machine before ordering the "Mapo Tofu Noodles" (750 yen) - rice was included but I declined. The dish arrived quickly, and it was bright red and oily, with a strong Sichuan pepper flavor. The soup was oily and spicy, just as I had hoped for. The noodles were thin and slightly firm, which I personally prefer softer. Overall, I enjoyed the stimulating experience and felt awakened by the spiciness!

Entered the restaurant a little after 12:00. It was a family of three dining together. <Orders> ◆<Husband> Best 2 Set (Dan Dan Noodles + Fried Rice) for 800 yen... A popular dish combo with dessert (Almond Tofu) included. I didn't try it myself, so please refer to the price and images. ◆<Myself> Daily Lunch Special (Mapo Tofu + Chicken and Vegetable Stir Fry) for 760 yen... I really wanted to have Mapo Tofu, so it was just right for me. The cooks and staff at this restaurant (company) are mostly from Sichuan, China. The seasoning of the dishes is very close to the local taste. The Mapo Tofu had a strong flavor of Sichuan pepper and chili, and it was the best I've had recently. The Chicken and Vegetable Stir Fry also had a non-Japanese-Chinese style seasoning, which I liked. It was quite a large portion for me, so I needed my husband's help to finish it, but for 760 yen, I thought it was a great deal and I left feeling full and satisfied. ◆<Daughter> Wonton Noodles for 750 yen... The wontons were large with plenty of filling! The soup also had a unique flavor (Chinese soup with a hint of shrimp broth), and my daughter really liked it. Despite the restaurant being quiet during Saturday lunchtime, which was a bit worrying for their business, I believe the taste of the food is solid and I hope they do well. I would like to try other menu items as well, so I'll make sure to come back again. Thank you for the meal.

The pepper was strong and very spicy, but delicious! It had been a while since my wife and I had a meal together. When we entered the restaurant, we purchased meal tickets from the vending machine inside. We ordered a set of Dan Dan noodles (small) and fried rice (small) for 800 yen, as well as a bowl of Dan Dan noodles for 650 yen. We were pleasantly surprised when they served us a meat bun as a complimentary dish. The texture of the bun was chewy and the meat inside was juicy and tasty. The Dan Dan noodles were delicious in a classic way. Personally, I felt that there was a bit too much pepper for my liking, but it was still good. When I tried the fried rice at first, it seemed a bit bland and lacking in flavor. However, when paired with the spicy Dan Dan noodles, it balanced out and tasted just right.

It is located about a 10-minute walk from Jiro Maru Station on the subway. It is right next to Fukuoka Dental University. The restaurant seems to only serve lunch. They operate on a food ticket system. There are table seats and a counter. I chose something different from the daily special, as I had tried tantanmen at another shop before. Sichuan beef noodles, 970 yen. The red soup has diced beef, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and green onions. The noodles are flat and curly, a bit heavy. The soup is spicy, and I felt full after finishing it. I prefer the non-spicy type of beef noodles. Tantanmen or the daily special would be a good deal. Water and tea are self-service. Thank you for the meal.

I went to the restaurant just in time for lunch, and they kindly accommodated me. I was planning to order Mapo Tofu, but ended up giving in to the temptation of noodles and got the Tantanmen set instead. It was delicious with a good level of spiciness.

I tried a daily special other than the beef noodle soup at my favorite restaurant, and I regret not sticking with the beef noodle soup. I enjoy spicy food, but this time the daily special included a dish similar to shredded pork with green peppers and mapo tofu. The shredded pork with green peppers was delicious, but the mapo tofu was only spicy without much flavor, leaving a numbing sensation on my tongue throughout. Next time, I'll stick with the beef noodle soup!

A little while ago, in a quiet town called Tamura, there is a place called Daimei Tantanmen, which offers Tantanmen and fried rice with a foreign flavor completely different from Japanese cuisine. The Tantanmen is spicy and has a foreign taste. I've had Mapo Tofu at Fujisaki before, but even though the locations are different, the spiciness of the Tantanmen is much milder. The fried rice is also light and fluffy, with a foreign flavor. The foreign taste could be described as authentic if you like it, or as something that divides preferences. It feels like something that would be served on an overseas tour. It wasn't very crowded during lunchtime, but the most impressive thing was when the staff asked us to sit on one side of the restaurant to bring all the customers together.

It's delicious. It's a lunch-only restaurant for some reason. They must have a lot of sister stores and be really busy. The set meals are cheap, tasty, and spicy. I always end up sweating a lot. I always get seconds of rice, which is a free service. I used to eat the tantan-men noodles when I first came, but lately I've been hooked on the set meals. I come here once a month on Saturdays for lunch. Unfortunately, it's a daytime-only restaurant. I could go to other sister stores, but I really like this one. The staff are probably from China? It feels like a mini trip with authentic flavors.

I went to Tamura's "Daiming Tantanmen," which is a branch of the Chinese Daiming Hot Pot Castle in Fujisaki. They use a ticket vending machine system to purchase food tickets. Today, I ordered the Mapo Tofu Noodles (630 yen) and received a complimentary bowl of rice since the total was over 580 yen during lunchtime. This was my first time here, but I had tried their Tantanmen at the Fujisaki location before. It had been a while since I had eaten spicy Tantanmen, so I was excited to try it again. The Mapo Tofu Noodles had thin noodles and were spicier than regular Tantanmen because of the addition of Mapo Tofu. The spiciness from the Sichuan peppercorns and chili peppers may be too much for those who are not fond of spicy food. My coworker had the regular Tantanmen (580 yen) and added chili oil to make it spicier. Compared to the Fujisaki location, both dishes seemed to have a milder level of spiciness.

This is a sister restaurant of the Chinese hot pot castle in Fujisaki. It used to be open at night, but now it only operates for lunch from 11:30 am to 2 pm. I had heard that the Fujisaki store was delicious and highly rated on Tabelog, so I was curious about this place too. I visited on Sunday at 1:30 pm and I was the only customer. I ordered the daily lunch special for 730 yen, which included stir-fried chicken and celery, mapo tofu, soup, and white rice. Rice was free for refills. Water and tea are self-service. The food was delicious, all with slightly bold flavors that made the rice go down easily. The mapo tofu was a hit, with a strong numbing flavor from the Sichuan peppercorns, which I personally love. It might be too spicy for those who are not fans of spicy food. For the taste and portion size at this price, I was very satisfied. Since it's close by, I might end up going every week. The restaurant operates on a food ticket system and there are no menus on the tables, so I'm sorry I can't provide information on other dishes. The exterior of the restaurant is plain and there are few customers, so it might be intimidating to enter, but I recommend giving it a try. There is ample parking available. I wish they had longer operating hours. [Additional note] I tried the tantanmen small and fried rice set (700 yen). The result was... not great. I probably won't order it again. The tantanmen was not particularly delicious and the fried rice was at a level where I feel the fried rice at Gyoza no Ohsho is better. For me, the highlight of this restaurant is definitely the mapo tofu.

As I was wandering around early in the new year, I noticed a light and decided to check it out. The staff seemed to be Chinese. I bought a meal ticket and took a seat. Water and tea were self-service. Since it was Chinese cuisine, the food came out quite quickly. The taste seemed authentic, as the tantanmen was quite spicy. It had a strong Sichuan pepper flavor that lingered. The fried rice was really delicious. I could hear Chinese voices from the kitchen, confirming the authenticity of the taste. The almond jelly that came with the set was incredibly tasty and helped to neutralize the spiciness of the tantanmen. I recommend trying it. It's like having tantanmen in between tonkotsu ramen.

I conquered Haruyoshi City Hall, Konoha Mall Hashimoto, Tamura, and Higashi-ku. The shop here is only open for lunch, but it seems like the main store is in front of Haruyoshi City Hall. One thing I want to try here is the tantanmen. To be clear, it is very spicy. The fried rice is also good. For those who are not good with spicy food, I recommend ordering the collagen-rich noodles with pig trotters. The fried rice is addictive and I always end up ordering it.
