お猿と狸
The eel in Hakodate is quite challenging to find. There are hardly any shops to begin with. The most famous ones are probably here and the Japanese restaurant inside the International Hotel, right? I actually tried making reservations over the phone a few times, but it was difficult to get a reservation. I thought I was being underestimated. By chance, I was told they could seat two people at 11:30, so I went on the weekend and found a surprisingly large restaurant with private rooms that were open to each other, and there were quite a few seats, but it was packed. Moreover, it seemed they were rotating customers in time slots during lunchtime. The staff led us to a corner of the private room, where we checked the menu. We asked the waitress about the differences between unagi-don and unaju, as well as the differences between regular, special, and extra special, and both of us ended up ordering unagi-don. We also ordered two skewers. We were told to wait about 20 minutes, so we had a brief planning meeting for our next trip. Waiting for eel was not a problem. Now, a small bag of sansho pepper and a small dish of sauce arrived, and shortly after, the skewers arrived. Oh? The motsu (offal) looks impressive! Oh my, it's better than expected, and the grilling is done nicely. Let's see. Yes! It's delicious. This is great!! I feel like having some sake!!! I resisted the urge and had a bite. Yummy! Now, after another serving of sansho pepper and sauce, the donburi arrived. Yes, this is a nicely shaped unagi. Let's see. It's so tender that it almost falls apart with chopsticks, so I cut a piece and eat it. Delicious. Long time no see, unagi! The grilling, steaming, and sauce are all top-notch, right? The price is great, this is good!! And the rice is cooked just the way I like it, with the sauce coloring it just right. Let's go! A bite of unagi, a mouthful of rice. Nice!! A bite of unagi, a mouthful of rice. Haha!! It's delicious! It's fun!! From the top, there's the liver to suck up, so I enjoy the flavor by rinsing my mouth. And again! From the beginning!! No complaints. The eel restaurant in a rural town was underestimated. Excuse me. Still full inside the restaurant, the owner took a breather and gave us a proper farewell, conveying the deliciousness. I'll be back.
