I tried the shortcake and mango chocolate cake from a cake shop near Hachinohe-no-sato Station that I had not visited before. The shortcake had slightly sweeter whipped cream than I expected, but it was delicious. The mango cake had a strong mango flavor, but it was not overpowering, and it balanced well with the chocolate. Considering the price, I found them both to be sufficiently delicious.

My daughter's birthday. We decided to get various cakes from Mongatou as we don't eat a lot of big decoration cakes as a family. Also, we got the "Mini Cookie Can" that was recommended by my follower nekoyanagi in advance! It was a limited edition tin can with illustrations by Tomonori Taniguchi that change depending on the season! We tried the chocolate cream cake (500 yen) and the strawberry tart (450 yen). The chocolate cream cake looked like a Mont Blanc and was easy to eat. The strawberry tart had fresh and sweet strawberries with a delicious almond flavor. I chose the strawberry tart. It was so fresh and the strawberries were sweet! The almond flavor of the tart was also delicious! We also got the small spring tin can (1080 yen) which was very tiny, but when we opened it, there were flower-shaped cookies inside that smelled strongly of strawberries! They were petite cookies handmade by Mongatou. My daughter loves animal characters, so she was very happy. The attentive service of the shop owner was also great. Thank you for the delicious food!

After finishing work on Saturday, I visited this shop looking for a snack. It gave me the impression of an old-fashioned cake shop, and I heard they can even make portrait cakes. Unfortunately, they were sold out of shortcake and it wasn't on display. I purchased a Galette Chocolate Mousse (¥500 tax included), Mont Chocolat (¥450 tax included), and Dome Fraise (¥450 tax included) without knowing. There were many cans and packages of sweets by our favorite picture book author, Tomonori Taniguchi, in the shop. They were delicious. Thank you for the meal.

▼Location▼
Located in the middle of the Hattorinosato Shotengai, southeast of Kintetsu Hattorinosato Station.
▼About the Shop▼
Mongatou HP is a Western confectionery shop in Hattorinosato Shotengai, known for its popular portrait cakes and various flavors of soft serve ice cream.
▼Menu▼
They offer various cakes, baked goods, and different flavors of soft serve ice cream. They also accept orders for portrait cakes.
▼Food Ordered▼
- Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve Ice Cream (Vanilla) - 300 yen
The soft serve comes in a waffle cone, with a slightly larger waffle part that serves as the container. The cream has a rich and mild flavor, different from the usual milkiness. It is moderately sweet and quite delicious.
▼Impressions▼
Mongatou HP is situated in the middle of Hattorinosato Shotengai, east of the rotary at the south exit of Kintetsu Hattorinosato Station. The shop is known for its portrait cakes and a variety of soft serve ice cream flavors. Due to the warm weather on the day of the visit, I opted for the simple Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve Ice Cream. While it was tasty and easy to eat, I personally prefer a creamier milk flavor. I would like to try their cakes on my next visit.

I went to a ramen shop representing Higashi-Osaka City and on my way back to Hachinosu Station, I found this store. They sell old-fashioned cakes at reasonable prices. Among the lineup of new cakes, it's important to have a store where you can buy "that thing you ate in the past." I chose the "apricot tart" from such a lineup. Apricot is a jam-like sauce that used to be on top of old-fashioned cheesecakes. The tart is firm, with a solid base. The middle of the tart is slightly lacking in moisture. And on the surface, that nostalgic sweet and sour taste is spread. Yes, that was the sourness! I didn't know what sauce it was back then! With just one cake, you can go back to the past.

Apricots are currently in season at Mont Gatou, where the waffle soft-serve ice cream is popular, and apricots are recommended now. I had the opportunity to try the apricots as they are, and they were delicious with a sweet and slightly sour taste, very juicy. The chef mentioned that apricots are like fruits that are made to be made into jam. When cooked, their deliciousness is enhanced even more. I also bought an apricot tart, which had a crispy tart base topped with a generous amount of apricot confit. It had a rich sweetness and a slight sourness, making it delicious. And all of this for only ¥200, quite affordable. The portrait cakes are also popular, where the pastry chef carefully hand-draws decorations on the cake based on photos provided by customers. These custom cakes are ordered by people even from the Kanto region to surprise their loved ones on special occasions. The patisserie is run by a couple, with the wife having graduated from Tsuji Culinary Institute and trained in France, and the husband honing his skills at a renowned patisserie in Lyon. Together, they create a delightful blend of French and Japanese pastry styles at Mont Gatou.
Visited again after a long time and found that the students were on summer vacation, so the waffles were less crowded. But there were new menu items added, which I'm sure the students would be delighted to see. The cakes were all about figs, with new items like jelly and tarts added to the menu.
In the afternoon, it's common to see high school girls enjoying soft-serve ice cream while chatting with the staff. The jams are popular, and the soft-serve ice cream is topped with various homemade jams besides cookies. There are seasonal limited editions, and these girls seem to check regularly for them. The waffle soft-serve ice cream costs ¥350 and is a great deal with fresh fruits and whipped cream generously added. It's a taste that will surely leave a lasting memory, making it a place you would want to visit with your children even after becoming a mom. It's that kind of charming shop, isn't it?

I had always been curious whenever I passed by this shop, but I finally mustered up the courage to go and try their ice cream! They had more flavors than I expected, and although I personally wanted something chocolatey, I ended up ordering the "Strawberry Princess" (I think that was the name). It had strawberries and strawberry jam on top! The strawberry jam was a bit too sweet for my liking, but I really enjoyed the soft serve ice cream as the base. I'm not a fan of milk, but this vanilla wasn't cheap-tasting or overly strong, it was just right! I think the cost performance is really great here! I believe this is the only place around here where you can get such delicious soft serve ice cream. I definitely want to come back next time to try the chocolate flavors!

Hello! I went to the "Nanohana Bar" in Osaka and Hachinohe with my friend iijma! It was our second stop on a bar hopping event for two old guys! This cute cake and pastry shop is located in the Hachinohe shopping district. The Nanohana Bar menu offers items for 500 yen. We tried the Caramel Cookie Soft Serve and some handmade pastries. We sat on the bench outside and enjoyed our soft serve. It was quite delicious! Next up, we're thinking of trying some meat dishes! The Nanohana Bar event is happening on May 26th and 27th, with special deals at 34 participating shops if you purchase a bracelet for 700 yen. Check it out if you're interested!
