Around November 2020, a popular restaurant featured on Retty, Kansai Walker, and winner of the Japan Sweets Award 2016, was visited by MBS announcer Yohei Oyoshi in September 2019. This establishment has been selected as one of the top 100 sweets shops in the West by Tabelog for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020. They offer a variety of traditional Japanese confectionery and sophisticated Western sweets, ranging from authentic classics to modern trends. The shop specializes in natural taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) and shaved ice, originating from the renowned taiyaki shop established in 1909, Naniwaya Sohonten. The original Naniwaya Sohonten is a century-old establishment known for being the model for the character "Oyeg Taiyaki-kun." The taiyaki mold, shaped like a sea bream, was created based on the word "auspicious." The shop has branches in Asakusa, Minami-Senju, and Azabu-Juban, with the latter being a branch of Naniwaya Sohonten in Azabu-Juban. The interior of the shop exudes a retro charm with a cozy atmosphere, featuring a small counter and tatami seating area with tables adorned with fish designs. The ceiling has a large rotating gray cover, adding a unique touch to the ambiance. The walls are decorated with warm-toned light bulbs, creating a nostalgic setting. The menu includes a variety of shaved ice options, such as Uji sweet potato, milk, and seasonal fruit flavors, as well as toppings like milk, cream cheese, and chestnuts. In addition to shaved ice, they also offer traditional Japanese desserts like zenzai (sweet red bean soup with rice cakes) and anmitsu (jelly and fruit dessert). The shop's signature taiyaki and ice cream sandwich are also popular choices. During my visit, I tried the Chestnut and Berry Shaved Ice and the Seasonal Milk Kiwi Shaved Ice, both of which were delicious and beautifully presented. The Chestnut and Berry Shaved Ice had a generous amount of sweet chestnuts and a refreshing berry sauce, while the Seasonal Milk Kiwi Shaved Ice had a delightful combination of kiwi and milk flavors. Overall, the shaved ice was finely shaved, creating a smooth texture without any icy chunks, and the flavors were well-balanced. I highly recommend trying the shaved ice at this establishment for a delightful and refreshing treat.

I arrived at the shop at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and there was no wait. I ordered a taiyaki. I enjoyed it at the terrace seat in front of me. The table was cute! The taiyaki had a crispy outside and was filled with plenty of red bean paste inside. It tasted like a traditional taiyaki and was delicious.

I had the Galibatamayochicken set meal and then headed to the Tenroku Nakazaki Shotengai shopping street. I wanted to eat pizza but the shop was closed, so I visited this place instead. I arrived at the restaurant at 12:35 with no wait and was seated in the back left of the tatami room. I ordered the Uji Kanetoki large size for ¥880 and the staff recommended adding milk topping for ¥110, so I requested that as well. The shaved ice was delicious and I wished I could have stayed longer, but the atmosphere was not conducive to lingering as most of the other customers were women. I left the restaurant promptly at 13:08. They mentioned I could eat outside as well, so I should have done that. Thank you for the meal.

The restaurant is located about a 4-5 minute walk southwest from Exit 13 of Osaka Metro Tenjinbashisuji Rokuchome Station. Inside, there are 6 counter seats, 3 two-person table seats, and 1 four-person table seat. I tried the Ice Milk (large) here. Soon after, a shaved ice dessert was brought to me, topped with condensed milk and milk. The crunchy ice combined with the gentle sweetness was very refreshing. It's nice to cool off with shaved ice on a hot summer day. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

After having lunch today, my husband and I went to Osaka Naniwa-ya for shaved ice and taiyaki for dessert. We ordered the Uji Kin-to milk shaved ice, which was a very large and cute shaved ice. It had a beautiful appearance and melted in my mouth with a fluffy texture. The red bean was plump and the sweetness was just right, making it delicious. The taiyaki had a thin and crispy skin, and the sweet bean paste was not too sweet, making it so delicious that I wanted to have another one. I would like to go there again next time. The restaurant is also very cute and stylish, so I highly recommend it. Check it out, everyone!

I felt like eating taiyaki for lunch, so I went to a shop that also sold shaved ice. I decided to try the matcha sweet red bean flavor with milk topping recommended by the staff. While waiting for the shaved ice, I tried the taiyaki and it was delicious! When the shaved ice arrived, I took a bite and the milk flavor spread in my mouth with a nice matcha taste. It had a good amount of red bean paste on top, but it was not overly sweet. It was so tasty that I wished I had ordered one for myself instead of sharing. I definitely want to try it again with extra milk and red bean topping, or even try all the menu items!

Fluffy shaved ice, so delicious!! The red bean paste goes all the way to the bottom of the shaved ice, and the fluffy, crunchy ice texture was light to eat even after a while! If you add a taiyaki, it will be even more comforting. It's a shop that was passed down from Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun's shop, definitely check it out!

Every time I pass by, there is always a long line. I was curious but couldn't make it there. Even in September, it's still hot. I went in right away when there was no line. It had been about 10 years since I last had shaved ice. I don't like when it makes my temples sting for some reason. But the shaved ice at this shop didn't sting. It was incredibly delicious! I had made a dinner reservation for 30 minutes later, so the small size option was a lifesaver. This time, I ordered the "黄昏" flavor - black honey syrup, milk, roasted soybean flour, and sweet red bean paste. When I glanced back, I saw they also had taiyaki! I wanted to try that too.

Today I visited a taiyaki shop that has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. It seems that their shaved ice is also popular during this season. When I arrived at 12 o'clock on the weekend, there was a line of about 5 people. Even after 15 minutes, the girl who was seated before me still hadn't received her shaved ice. The turnover rate is surprisingly slow. They must really be particular about their shaved ice. I found out that you can also get shaved ice to go at the takeout counter. Since I was short on time, I got the "Seasonal Fruit" to go. It took over 10 minutes for it to be ready. The seasonal fruit was orange, with a nice balance of sweetness and acidity. It was topped with a taiyaki-shaped monaka. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived around 2:40 pm on Sunday and there were about 15 people waiting in line. I waited for about 40-50 minutes before entering. Once inside, the service was smooth and I received my meal promptly. The taiyaki was cute and delicious, especially the one with kinako filling. It had a deep flavor of kinako, which made me happy.

I recently tried a shaved ice shop that I found on Tabelog as I haven't had shaved ice in a while. I arrived around 4 pm and there was a decent line. I waited for about 30 minutes outside the shop, but they had spot coolers and chairs outside, so it was quite comfortable. Since it was my first time trying the latest shaved ice, I wasn't sure what to order, but there was a recommended ranking inside the shop, so I went with the number one recommendation, Naniwaya Blue Hawaii! I was intrigued by the keyword "espuma" that I saw in my research, so I was glad to see it on top of the original Blue Hawaii syrup. The lemon-flavored espuma, which is like a creamy foam, melted in my mouth on top of the fluffy ice and was absolutely delicious! There was also lemon custard hidden inside the ice, so I enjoyed it from start to finish without getting tired of the flavors. I had heard that fluffy ice doesn't give you a headache, but I still felt a slight brain freeze towards the end. Overall, I really enjoyed modern shaved ice and I look forward to trying more in the future.

Arrived at the restaurant on Saturday before Obon at 2 pm, already a line of about 10 people. While waiting in the heat, a cool breeze hit me. I noticed a commercial cooling fan. It was nice to see the consideration for customers waiting in the heat. Waited for about 20 minutes, which was surprisingly short compared to Tokyo where it could be an hour wait. The restaurant had about 12 outdoor seats and 20 indoor seats. Tried the classic Uji Kin Toki dessert. The ice was fluffy, the matcha syrup not too sweet, and the red beans perfect. Satisfied with the adult-like ice. The bill was around 800 yen, very reasonable. Next time, I want to try the fruit flavors.

I didn't check the timing for peach shaved ice season, so I didn't get to try it when I visited, but I tried a different limited menu item. The fluffy ice with fruit and cheese cream was delicious and enjoyable until the last bite. The seasonal syrup that my companion tried seemed to lose flavor towards the end if not customized. This shop offers creative shaved ice creations that are worth trying!

I visited during lunchtime. I arrived before 12:30 and was seated right away, even though the restaurant was almost full. This place is a branch of the popular Tokyo taiyaki shop called "Naniwaya Sohonten". The cozy atmosphere inside the restaurant, which can accommodate around 15 people, was pleasant. I ordered the "Honey Lemon (small) for 660 yen" and "Milk for 110 yen". The order arrived in about 18 minutes. The ice was fluffy and melted nicely in the mouth. The staff recommended adding milk to balance out the sourness of the sauce, but I felt the milk overpowered the flavors a bit too much. It was a hot day, so I wished for a more refreshing taste. The restaurant was busy with almost no empty seats during lunchtime, showing its popularity. However, I regret that the topping choice did not work out well this time. Thank you for the meal.

I tried the shaved ice from Osaka Naniwa-ya at the "Ice Love Club" event held at Sogo Yokohama store. I ordered the "Peach and Plum" flavor. The top layer had plum sauce and peach jelly. Inside, there was cream cheese sauce. When you eat the plum and cream cheese sauce together, the acidity and sweetness mix in your mouth, creating a delicious taste!

Finally, I had shaved ice in Osaka. When I called in advance, they said there was a wait of 7-8 groups, but when I arrived, there was no wait at all (≧∀≦) So lucky! Shortly after, about 10 people lined up... I had to catch the Shinkansen back to Tokyo, so I was nervous about whether I'd make it in time, but I'm grateful to the food gods (^_−)−☆ I ordered the Uji Kinmochi with milk topping in a small size. I took off my shoes and was guided to a seat in the back. I waited for about 15 minutes. During that time, I went to the cosmetics store next door, but they didn't have what I needed. However, I saw that they had KOSE's Sekkisei on the shelf here too. I had the urge to buy it, but I resisted, resisted, haha. Enjoy your meal! Even in a small size, it was quite filling for me. I wonder how many calories it has as I eat it bite by bite. I gently break through the fluffy part and the moist part covered in matcha milk, heading towards the deepest part. The sweetness is maintained until the end (^_−)−☆ I'm full even with shaved ice!

Uji Kinji Milk Taiyaki Monaka (900 yen). No waiting time, even outside. The atmosphere inside the shop is nostalgic and calm, with traditional tatami seating available. There are many female customers. The shaved ice is finely shaved with a soft texture. The delicate and refreshing taste is perfect for hot summer days. The taiyaki-style monaka topping is cute and visually appealing.

Arrived 20 minutes before the 12:00 opening time. There were already 4 groups ahead of me. I ordered the "黄昏" (black honey + milk + kinako + red bean paste) and my friend ordered the "宇治金時" (matcha syrup + red bean paste). Both were delicious. The ice was just the right hardness. The wait was worth it. I was surprised by the amount of red bean paste. It was clear that they also make taiyaki. It was a satisfying lunch. I wanted to buy taiyaki to take home, but there was a sign saying "Reservation required, minimum 10 pieces" so I didn't ask and gave up. I was too full anyway. The "黄昏" had syrup until the end, but the "宇治金時" didn't have syrup at the bottom, making it a bit difficult to eat. My friend ate it as it was because they are shy, but maybe I should have said something to the staff. Most other customers were eating peach.

After a year, I went back and ordered the same thing as last year (lol) - shaved ice with black honey, red beans, and milk toppings! This is really delicious ♡ The best part is that not only the top but also red beans are inside. This is quite satisfying (#^.^#). The fluffy shaved ice goes down smoothly. I was lucky to be seated right away on a weekday evening, but by the time I left, there were about 3 groups waiting in line. I will definitely go back. Thank you for the meal! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

During peach shaved ice season, there may be lines forming before the store even opens. I lined up 30 minutes before opening but couldn't get in on the first round. The store has seating options like tables, counters, and terrace seats where you have to take off your shoes before entering. The staff is very friendly. The peach shaved ice (Angel Hip) with cream cheese topping has at least one whole peach in it, and the finely shaved fluffy ice makes it delicious. As it gets colder later on, it's nice to be able to eat in the warm terrace seats.

Last time, I came aiming for the Saturday opening, but it was sold out. When I arrived at 10:45, 15 minutes before opening, there was already a long line with about 20 people ahead of me. I managed to snag the last outdoor terrace seat. I ordered the "God Hip II" for ¥1700, which is one size only. It's a blend of peaches and macadamia nuts in milk, with raspberry syrup and berry chocolate inside, topped with crushed macadamia nuts and a ginger soda jelly with peaches from Arakawa. The peach was about the size of one peach, and the combination of milk with raspberry syrup was bright and delicious.
