I visited around 11:20 on a regular day. I was the first to arrive, and there was a photo shoot taking place inside. When I sat down, a frozen towel was placed, which was a nice touch since it was hot outside. I ordered the 5cm rare cutlet bowl, a rare cut of meat. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The cutlet, which was cooked at low temperature for 24 hours, was thick but tender, with no unpleasant pork smell, and perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It was the best cutlet bowl I have ever eaten. When I mentioned how delicious it was to the master on my way out, he gave me a very gentle smile. It seems like the master also loves cutlets, as he even recommended another delicious pork cutlet restaurant to me. It's been a while since I gave a 5-star rating. In my personal ranking, Chiyomatsu has now moved up to second place, just behind Mokuton in Okage Yokocho. To sum it up: Impressive 5cm thickness, crispy outside and tender inside, perfect meat preparation. It's located right near Kintetsu Nipponbashi Station. If you're nearby, you should definitely go! #Chiyomatsu

Osaka / Nihonbashi / A former sumo wrestler owner's shop "Japan's thickest" Katsudon [Katsudon Chiyomatsu] ☑︎ Special top 5cm thick Katsudon (400g) ¥2400 I knew I couldn't finish it, but I still ordered it because it was my first time. The appearance is really impressive! And the taste exceeds expectations! The meat is so thick and each piece has a great weight to it. There are various seasonings like yuzu pepper, sansho pepper, and salt on the table, so you can enjoy different flavors. You can also have grated ponzu sauce. I couldn't finish it all, so I took the leftovers home for an extra ¥100. The shop only has counter seats! The staff were very friendly and fun. I also want to visit the shop in Umeda that serves "Japan's thickest" katsu sandwich. The price is a bit high, but it's worth waiting in line for. I bet both the special and regular options are satisfying. On Saturday night, I lined up from 1 hour before opening and was the first to enter! Almost all the menu items were sold out within an hour of opening, which was surprising! I finally went to try the 5-centimeter thick cutlet bowl that I was curious about. I arrived around 2 PM for lunch, and there were about 10 people waiting, mostly foreigners. The wait was almost an hour, and once inside, I was seated at the counter. I ordered the thick cutlet and black oolong tea. The oolong tea came in a large jug. The pickles were just a small side. There were various condiments on the table to accompany the cutlet, such as curry powder, salt, shichimi, yuzu, and sansho pepper. It took a while, but the thick cutlet finally arrived. The impact was impressive. It was difficult to eat it like a regular cutlet bowl, so I ended up gnawing on the cutlet and mixing it with the rice. The cutlet was cooked at a low temperature, so it had a different texture compared to a regular cutlet bowl. It was delicious, but I found it a bit challenging to eat compared to the usual cutlet bowl. It was 370g in weight, so it was quite filling. It might be good for big eaters, but it could be tough for women. They also offer takeout, which is convenient.

Arrived around 7:00 pm on Monday. There was a line in front of the restaurant, and I waited for about an hour. About 90% of the customers were foreigners. The restaurant only had counter seating. Once inside, I filled out an order form and handed it in. That day, they only had two options available: the rare cut 450g and the 2.5cm cut katsudon, as everything else was sold out. The food arrived in about 5 minutes. The katsu had a slightly rare part and tasted like turkey leg. It was a personal opinion, but the rice had egg on top and also used barley, making it delicious! The flavor may be on the rich side.

Former sumo wrestler owner of the shop, which is flooded with TV coverage, makes the thickest katsudon in Japan. Chiyo Matsudo Dotonbori Honten uses a carefully low-temperature cooking method to fry until crispy. The katsudon oil is a blend of "lard" (pork fat) that goes well with tonkatsu and salad oil. The line is amazing, with many foreign customers also waiting. The 24-hour low-temperature cooking results in a deliciously creamy egg and tender meat. The katsu is so thick that it feels like eating a meat lump, but there are condiments for flavor variation. The sauce katsudon at Osaka Tsutenkaku Fillet is visually stunning, with plenty of katsu inside the rice. Thank you for the feast! I had been curious about this shop for a while. I took advantage of some free time and lined up at this constantly crowded shop. The katsudon was delicious, but the atmosphere of the shop was terrible. You have to write your order on a paper that is on the table, but there was no explanation at all. Even though it was clear that other customers were confused, the staff just ignored it. It's a shame because they make delicious food. I don't think I'll be going back for a second time.

The place was extremely crowded. Orders were taken by checking off items on a paper. After ordering, drinks and pickles arrived first. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was mainly young staff members, with one former sumo wrestler. The staff seemed friendly among themselves but the former wrestler appeared a bit cold towards customers. The katsudon was ordered with a 5cm thick cutlet. It was surprisingly tender and juicy, with a crispy coating. There were also various spices for flavoring, which added to the enjoyment. However, the large amount of fat in the cutlet caused some customers to feel a bit heavy afterwards. Some young women even left some of their food uneaten. Overall, the portion size was satisfying, especially for those who want a hearty meal.

Katsudon Chiyomatsu Dotonbori Honten I love tonkatsu, so I wanted to try this restaurant at least once. I heard that the taste is worth the wait, so I decided to line up under the scorching sun like in a sauna. I ordered a special 5 cm draft beer and the Jina Katsudon (rare cut 400g) with pickles. The meat was delicious. There were many foreign customers. The meat was tasty but the portion was huge. The sauce could have been a bit better. It took a long time to eat, so the turnover was slow. I burned off the calories from the 2-hour wait.

I've been interested in this restaurant for a while. However, due to its location, I haven't been able to visit until today. The place opened at 11:00, but I arrived at 11:15 and there was already a line of about 30 people. I hesitated for a moment, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity, so I bought a frozen water bottle from the convenience store and joined the line. It was a scorching 37 degrees that day, and there were many foreign tourists in line as well, all probably thinking "it's so hot." (Remember to prepare frozen water bottles for the summer.) After waiting for about 2 hours, I finally got inside. I ordered the limited special (2,500 yen) by checking off the options on the provided paper, and luckily they still had some left. The katsudon arrived soon after, with a massive 5cm thick, 450g cutlet. It was so impressive that even though I usually don't take pictures, I had to capture it. The cutlet was tender and flavorful, and I enjoyed being able to customize the taste with condiments like shichimi, curry salt, and yuzu pepper. I would love to visit again during a good season.

The restaurant operates with only one cook, so the turnover is slow (which may be understandable due to the small size of the restaurant). There was a wait of 12 people, with a 50-minute wait time for entry. The seating capacity inside the restaurant is 12 seats. One waitress handles seating, taking orders, and washing dishes. The water served in a large jug was appreciated, but refills were not offered unless requested, and additional water may incur a charge. The paid drinks come in even larger jugs and cost around 450-500 yen. The cook, an older man, forgot to stick the restaurant's flag in the donburi dish he served, and the order of service was also mixed up. Despite the chaos, the staff seemed tense and frustrated with each other, with the waitress clearly irritated with the cook. The owner, who took over from the cook, seemed annoyed that the waitress was not performing perfectly. As a result, I couldn't bring myself to ask for the missing flag and just ate in silence. The batter used for the dish seemed to be a mix called "egg-like batter mix," giving it a yellow color and a texture similar to tempura. It was thick and had a slightly chewy texture, almost like a fritter. There might have been some garlic powder in the batter. It lacked the crispy texture of tonkatsu. The meat seemed boiled, with a texture similar to salad chicken, and it was all white without any red meat remaining, giving it a strangely bouncy texture. Unfortunately, I couldn't taste the flavor of the meat. The sauce had a taste similar to the broth of oyakodon, but it was on the lighter side with a faint soy sauce flavor. Given the thickness of the meat and the spiced batter, I think a bolder flavor would have been better. Overall, I was looking forward to this restaurant based on what I saw on social media, but I was disappointed with the results. I may not visit again in the future...

A popular restaurant run by a former sumo wrestler specializing in thick cutlet rice bowls! The restaurant, which opened on April 1, 2022, is owned by Gohin Chiyomatsu. Known for serving the "thickest cutlet rice bowl in Japan," the restaurant uses long-time low-temperature cooked pork, mochi barley rice, and a blend of lard (pork fat) and salad oil, with a focus on their cooking methods. The generous portion and delicious taste have made it a hot topic on social media, with lines forming daily. In November 2022, a sister restaurant "Katsu Sand Chiyomatsu" and "Onigiri Chiyomatsu" were opened. The restaurant is located about 20 meters north of Lawson Chitose Matsubara Ichome store on Takeyokogawa Street. The nearest station is a 3-minute walk from Kintetsu Nipponbashi Station. The restaurant is open from 11:00 to 21:30 (open until sold out of prepared pork), with irregular closing days. There are 12 counter seats only, and reservations are not accepted, so be prepared to wait in line as it is always busy with many customers. A popular menu item is the "Special 5cm Unsealed Cutlet Rice Bowl (Rare Cut 450g) with Pickles." There are three types of cutlet bowls to choose from: Regular, Special, and Extra Special. The meat for the cutlet bowl, which is 5cm thick, is made from domestically sourced black pork from Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures. It is cooked slowly for 24 hours at low temperatures, resulting in a tender and crispy dish with a refreshing sauce. [Order] ◻ Extra Special 5cm Unsealed Cutlet Rice Bowl (Rare Cut 450g) with Pickles 2,500 yen

The restaurant has a counter-only seating, where you can enjoy watching a large cutlet being freshly cut in front of you and served in a bowl. I originally came for the premium cutlet, but changed my mind at the last minute and ordered the large 5cm cutlet bowl instead. I was eating at a good pace until the last two pieces, when my stomach was already full. I managed to finish it out of pride, and I am satisfied with having enjoyed the hearty cutlet. It seemed like many men were ordering the premium cutlet, while female tourists seemed to prefer the regular size cutlet bowl.

Visited on Saturday afternoon. Arrived before opening around 11 am and waited in line for about 2 hours and 30 minutes with around 50 people. Ordered the special thick and juicy pork cutlet bowl. The pork cutlet was thick yet tender, and paired perfectly with the sweet sauce. It was incredibly delicious! The rice underneath also had some barley mixed in. Also, the pig figurine on the counter side (inside the restaurant) was cute!

The katsudon has a strong visual impact, but the meat is incredibly tender and fatty, making it very delicious. The pickles are also a refreshing palate cleanser. I can see why there is always a line. However, the portion size is huge and it can be challenging to finish it all. But since you're there, might as well go for the 5-centimeter thick one, right?笑

Around 13:00, when I arrived at the front of the shop, there was already a line of over 10 people (60% foreigners). It took about an hour to eat. The special pork was impressive with its 400 grams of meat at a thickness of 5cm. You can add extra eggs. The pork seems to be cooked at low temperature for 24 hours in advance, so the frying time in the shop is short. It is very tender and can be easily chewed without much effort, but it lacks flavor from the broth or eggs, so you may get tired of the taste halfway through and be overwhelmed by the fat. The large jug of black oolong tea that comes out is... well, you already know it's great!

Yesterday, I attended a casual wedding reception and after-party for a junior member of my club, and stayed at a hotel in Dotonbori. The next morning, I went to a restaurant called "Katsudon Chiyomatsu Dotonbori Main Store" in Nihonbashi with a senior colleague who had returned home for a visit. The place was crowded with about 30 people waiting in line when we arrived 30 minutes early. We ended up waiting for over 2 hours to get in. I ordered the most expensive dish, the Special 5cm Thick-cut Katsudon for 2400 yen, which was a hefty 400g. The dish was large and thick, and although the meat was juicy and tender, it was a bit heavy to finish. Overall, it was delicious but I don't think it's worth waiting in line for that long. It's more of a one-time experience for the novelty, rather than a place I would visit regularly.

This is my fourth visit. When I went during spring break, there were long lines mostly formed by foreign tourists who had seen it on Instagram, and I waited for 2 and a half hours. So, this time I learned my lesson and arrived around 30 minutes before opening to secure the 5th spot in line. It was a good decision. If you want to go, I highly recommend going early. Absolutely. If you go later and see the long line, you will definitely be discouraged. Inside the restaurant, you can see the super kind owner, a former sumo wrestler, diligently frying the extra-large cutlets at the counter. This really gets your appetite going. The photo is of the large cutlet bowl (1750 yen). It comes with a 350g (5cm) cutlet. The rice portion is reasonable, and they serve pickles on the side with a glass of water. The egg on top keeps the cutlet crispy. The first few bites are incredibly delicious. Most people enjoy adding their own mix of shichimi, salt, and sansho pepper on the black plate provided. As you eat, it starts to get tough. This time, there was a lot of fat, so it was quite heavy. But I always end up ordering the large cutlet because it's a kind of romance. By the time I leave, I have conflicting thoughts of "It was delicious, thank you" and "Why did I order this, I won't order it again." It's like when you eat too much Jiro-style ramen. But in the end, I'll go back again. Such a wonderful restaurant. I will visit again... Additional note: By training with this, you'll be able to handle a regular Jiro-style ramen easily. If you're not confident, try starting with a smaller size!

Around 18:30, we started lining up and there were about 20 people ahead of us, but we were able to enter the restaurant in about an hour. Inside, J-POP songs were playing in a waltz arrangement, and some people were humming along. The katsudon was thick and filling! Not only was it large, but it was also delicious, especially the lean meat part. There were many foreigners, and I felt that it has become a tourist attraction.

Episode 11 Katsudon Chiyo Matsui We visited Katsudon Chiyo Matsui in Dotonbori! Comments: Menu ordered this time: Special 5cm thick Katsudon I've always wanted to try Chiyo Matsui, a popular spot in Umeda, known for their katsu sandwiches. Arriving 10 minutes before opening, we were able to get in on the second round! I recommend going on an empty stomach, as the portion was even bigger than it looked in the photos! The katsu, cooked at low temperature, was tender and surprisingly easy to eat. Despite feeling stuffed, the high protein content prevented any discomfort. A must-visit katsudon specialty shop for sure! Just be prepared for a long line by the time you leave. Last time I visited around 19:00, but they were already sold out and I couldn't eat. So this time, I lined up at 17:00, with about 30 people ahead of me. I was able to enter the restaurant after 20:00. The turnover is quite slow, so you need to be patient. This time, on a Sunday, around 18:00, they ran out of meat and stopped taking orders, about 8 people behind us. We ordered the Katsudon, with each of us getting the ● Special (rare cut 400g) and ● Regular (domestic pork 350g). I consider myself a big eater, but I struggled to finish it. It's quite tough for women, I think. But if you go for the Regular (200g), the thickness becomes 2.5cm. Since we lined up for a long time to try the famous thick-cut Katsudon, it has to be at least 5cm thick, right? By the time we finished eating, we were so full that we didn't want to see any more Katsudon... that's how we felt on the way back. If I go there again, I vowed to try the Fillet Sauce Katsudon next time (laughs).

Hello ♪ This is RamenWalking! Today is Katsudon day~ I visited the Katsudon Chiyomatsu Dotonbori Honten in Nihonbashi and tried the "Special 5cm Thick Katsudon" dish. I went alone since my family was dining out. It's always a good opportunity to visit new places, so I decided to try this place that caught my eye before. The restaurant is known for its extra-large pork cutlet. I skipped lunch to prepare for the meal. I arrived at 18:30, but there were 18 people waiting outside. Luckily, the staff counted the number of people in line and stopped taking orders at the current number. I managed to get in at 20:00. I ordered the Special 5cm Thick Katsudon for 2,400 yen. The menu was limited to either "Special (5cm)" or "Regular (2.5cm)" thickness due to items being sold out. I chose the 5cm thickness without hesitation! The pork cutlet was incredibly thick and cut by the owner. It looked so thick that it made me smile. The dish was served within 10 minutes of being seated, and I started eating. The pork cutlet had been cooked at a low temperature for 24 hours, giving it a crispy exterior and a tender interior. However, it lacked juiciness and seasoning, so it might get a bit bland after a while. There were 5 condiments on the table for flavor variation. The rice underneath the cutlet was mixed with beaten egg and sweet broth, which was delicious. The overall flavor was bold, which was a bit overwhelming for me, but it would be a good choice for those looking for a large portion. Thank you, Katsudon Chiyomatsu Dotonbori Honten!
