This place is originally a steak and hamburger restaurant. Tonkatsu is nowhere on the menu. However, recently, this restaurant started offering a new menu item called "Beef Tendon Curry," and one of the toppings they provide is tonkatsu. I was honestly worried if it would be okay. While curry can be made to look decent no matter what, tonkatsu looks quite unsightly even if the breading comes off a little. As a meat specialty store, I was concerned if they could serve something that they wouldn't be embarrassed about. This restaurant is located in the southern part of the Fukuoka metropolitan area. It is situated in a slightly secluded area among suburban dining establishments, near the end of what used to be called Prefectural Route 5, leading to the former toll road, Tosu Chikushino Road. The simple, one-story interior of the restaurant is spacious and bright, making it a safe place to eat during these times of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, onto the Beef Tendon Curry with tonkatsu. The tonkatsu looks visually appealing and is quite substantial in size. Well, considering they charge an extra 400 yen for the tonkatsu as an option, it's decent enough. The meat is thick and well-seasoned, and could be served on its own. It truly lives up to being a tonkatsu from a "meat shop." On the other hand, the curry. The curry is poured generously over the rice, reminiscent of the sauce spots from the past, with a generous portion of thin chunks of beef tendons scattered on top. The tender and fluffy beef tendons have a delicious flavor, and the curry is elegantly finished in a Western style. It is moderately spicy and easy to eat, with a generous amount of curry sauce. You won't be left with leftover rice. If you get the curry alone with salad and coffee included for 980 yen (during lunchtime), there's nothing to complain about. I have found another good curry in this area. As for the original steak and hamburger dishes, the "Special Combo Set" (1,480 yen) allows you to enjoy both. It includes a 100g hamburger and an 80g diced steak. The hamburger is made with 100% beef without any fillers, and the juicy meat overflows from the coarse ground beef. It has no unnecessary sweetness and allows you to taste the meat directly. The steak, despite being diced, is not like the scraps from other restaurants but has a solid umami flavor. It pairs very well with the slightly sweet Japanese-style sauce. This combo offers great value for money. The steak is good, the hamburger is good, and the newcomer Beef Tendon Curry is also good, although it may be intimidating to order. It's in the suburbs, but if you happen to be in this area, remember to check it out. This text is from "Tokyo Totteoki!!". If you would like to see more photos, please visit the link below.
