The last day of the year-end and New Year holidays. I have a hangover. I rode my bike to Minami Senba. It's a district with many food shops, but also many new companies, so people are wandering around looking for lunch. The place is crowded with people. To kill some time, I wandered around and stumbled upon Shikoku Sakaba. It's a two-story restaurant with menu items like grilled bonito tataki set meal, grilled chicken, Tokushima rice bowl, sea bream rice, Sanuki udon, grilled eel rice bowl, and fried chicken. The daily specials are hamburger and fried horse mackerel. I ordered the grilled pork and egg rice set meal. After a while, the grilled pork and egg rice set meal arrived. It came in a large shallow bowl with grilled pork and egg rice. There was a small bowl of Sanuki udon on the side, with tempura flakes, seaweed, and a little bit of green onions visible. There were two pieces of bonito tataki in a small dish at the back. Pickles were served in a small plate. They offered chili oil to add to the bowl if desired. I started by sprinkling shichimi pepper on the udon. Now, let's dig in. First, the udon. The broth was strong. The udon itself was just a regular pre-packaged noodle. It tasted like something you would eat at home, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Now, onto the grilled pork and egg rice. The bright red pickled ginger caught my eye. I've never been a fan of pickled ginger. I thought about removing it, but since it's a local specialty, I decided to go along with it. I'm not sure if it's a must-have in Ehime though. First, I broke the fried egg on top and mixed it all together. The grilled pork appeared from underneath the egg. The first thing I noticed was the difference between the menu photo and the actual dish. The amount of grilled pork in the photo was piled high, but in reality, it was not as much. The portion was also on the smaller side. What I want to say is that the volume is much less than the exaggerated menu photo...Kansai people don't count the number of sashimi slices in the menu photo, but isn't the menu photo exaggerating too much? In reality, when I ate it, I didn't feel like there wasn't enough grilled pork. In that case, I think there's no need to take exaggerated menu photos. Let's get back to the main topic. The grilled pork and egg rice had a good amount of sauce that tied everything together. As a fan of eggs, the fried egg did a great job. I took a bite of the grilled pork and egg rice. Then, I sipped the udon broth and ate the udon. It was a good combination. For a change of taste, I tried the bonito tataki, a specialty of Tosa. Nowadays, it's often eaten with salt, but here it was served with dipping sauce. I took a slice of onion with it. Bonito has a unique flavor that other fish don't have. It's refreshing and cleanses the palate. The udon and rice bowl filled me up. I had a taste of the local dishes from the three prefectures in Shikoku in one meal. The concept is very interesting. Thank you for the meal.
