Before departing from Chitose, I had only eaten one tonkatsu sandwich, so when I arrived in Dazaifu, I searched for a restaurant where I could eat something. I couldn't find a typical Fukuoka-style restaurant, so I ended up at a place that was different from Hokkaido flavors, with a hint of plum fragrance in the air. It seemed that the onigiri base was made with plum and hijiki, which made sense!

This is Kasanoya, a traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Dazaifu, Fukuoka. I tried their specialty, Ume-gaeshi mochi. After visiting the shrine, I strolled through the street market and this was the perfect snack. It has a faint plum flavor in honor of the Tenmangu Shrine. The freshly baked crispy mochi goes really well with it. A sweet treat that exudes history. It was a delightful experience.

Today, I visited Kasunoya in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, located next to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. I went there to get a good luck charm for my grandchildren's entrance exams. Kasunoya is a new player in the area, compared to the well-known Kassanoya right across the street. The specialty of Kasunoya is Umegashi, a type of sweet pastry with sweet bean paste inside. It is similar to "oyaki" but has a unique history related to Sugawara no Michizane. The price for Umegashi is the same in all the shops in the area, so the main difference may be the amount of sweet bean paste inside. I recommend trying the freshly made ones for the best experience. Despite the small size of the shop, it is worth a visit. Thank you for the hospitality.

After visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, I stopped for a quick bite. I tried the Ume-gaeshi Mochi for ¥130. It has a crispy outer layer with sweet red bean paste inside. The slightly burnt aroma of the mochi adds a nice touch. It's easy to eat on the go, but finding a place to eat during these times can be a challenge. Thank you for the meal!

I went around 8:30 in the morning. I saw signs for Umegae mochi at various shops. I wondered if it was famous as I walked to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. As we wandered around, we started to get hungry. On the way back, we passed by a shop where we could get freshly baked Umegae mochi. The thin, crispy skin and the hot sweet red bean filling were delicious.

In the calm restaurant, you can also enjoy a meal menu. The oyakodon with creamy eggs looked very delicious. The plum and hijiki rice ball was also very tasty. And my favorite dish, the "tsuyamen", was filled with shrimp and vegetables. The plum aroma in the gentle soup was wonderful, and adding plenty of yuzu pepper halfway through made it even more delicious. Of course, after the meal, we enjoyed freshly baked umegashi mochi.

At Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine♪~(5/12) It's raining outside. Quickly getting ready and heading to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It's early so there are not many people. Starbucks is nice too. The Umegae mochi from Kasanoya is delicious when freshly baked, but it's hard to carry because it's hot. There is a space at the back where you can sit and enjoy tea while eating. The freshly baked mochi is chewy and the best.

I went to "Kasanoya" to buy Umegae mochi, but there was a long line. However, there was no line at another shop nearby, so I asked the staff what was different. They said, "It's the same haha," so I bought souvenirs there and went home! When there is a line, it makes you want to line up because it must be popular, right? Haha

When I visited Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and it was cold, I went to a shop and had plum udon noodles. I can't remember the name of the menu, but the white cabbage, chicken, and egg were shaped like plums, and when eaten with yuzu pepper, it was warming and delicious. My family had parent and child bowl, which also looked delicious. Before going to this shop, I saw someone eating plum rice cakes, so I didn't try them here. If I have the chance, I would like to try the rice cakes from various shops as well. It was warming and comforting. The atmosphere of the shop was calm and relaxing. Thank you for the meal.

I used this shop after visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka. By the way, this is the second shop I visited. You can enjoy eating umegae mochi while walking around, so you can compare and try different shops. I have been to Dazaifu many times, but personally, I think Kasunoya's umegae mochi is the best. The mochi is a little like a senbei and very delicious.

When I visited Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, I stopped by this restaurant. There weren't many options for dining around, so I was grateful for this place. My husband had the parent and child rice bowl, and I ordered the plum cold noodles and plum hijiki seaweed rice ball set. The prices were a bit high due to being in a tourist area, but the food was really delicious. The portions were decent, and I ended up feeling quite full. I also shared some noodles with my husband. The restaurant had a nice open atmosphere and was surprisingly spacious, with a view of a courtyard. I regret not visiting this place sooner. I enjoyed a relaxing time in the calm interior. I would like to come back for tea next time. I deducted a star because the prices were not cheap.

If you are looking for a lunch spot in Dazaifu, want to eat a rice bowl dish, or prefer a calm atmosphere, Kasunoya is recommended! They offer various rice bowl dishes such as oyakodon, gyudon, and tamagodon. The restaurant has a long layout with about 10 table seats, creating a relaxed ambiance. I ordered the gyudon on this day. It was simply delicious and had a sufficient portion size. They also accept mobile payments.

I had heard from locals that there was a famous shop for delicious plum rice cakes, and they were selling freshly baked ones at a local products exhibition. Although I wasn't hungry, I bought two hot rice cakes. I was able to eat them while they were still warm, and they were very delicious. The soft texture, perfect sweetness, and tasty red bean paste made me feel so happy. This rice cake is so delicious that I would definitely come back for more. I had bought frozen ones at a nearby supermarket a while ago and warmed them in a toaster, which was also delicious, but freshly baked ones are just amazing! I'm glad I stopped by the local products exhibition.

It's a shop on the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. I got a takeout of Ume-gaeshi Mochi for 130 yen. I ate it on the spot, and it was delicious with the freshly baked hot mochi and not too sweet red bean paste. Perfect for eating while walking around. However, it was a bit inconvenient that they only accepted cash.

After visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, I bought some Umegae mochi from Kasunoya next to the stylish Starbucks on the approach. I had them serve me the freshly baked ones and enjoyed them on the Nishitetsu train. They were delicious while still hot. I should have brought some tea, even just in a plastic bottle.

Umegae mochi There are several Umegae mochi shops along the approach to Dazaifu. Each shop has its own unique style, but the base is a thin, chewy rice cake with a distinctive plum-flavored filling. It was my first time trying it, and I found it quite, or rather, very delicious. Despite being a newcomer, I personally think it has the potential to become even more famous.

A shop near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. They bake Umegae mochi on site, and as you walk past it, you enter the cozy shop. The entrance is hidden in the back, creating a peaceful atmosphere inside. I ordered a set of Umegae mochi and coffee. The coffee, served in a teacup, was a nice touch. The balance between the sweetness of the Umegae mochi and the bitterness of the coffee was perfect. It was a delightful experience.

On the final day of a 3-day training session, I visited Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Among the many shops selling umegae mochi, I tried the freshly baked ones recommended by the tour bus guide at Kasanoie. I lined up with about five people while watching the mochi being baked right in front of me. The rhythmic and vibrant movements of the bakers and wrappers captivated me, and before I knew it, it was my turn. I received one piping hot mochi and savored it. The dough made from mochi rice and uruchimai rice flour was thin like the skin of a monaka, but underneath was a delightfully chewy texture. The sweet red bean paste was soft and had a perfect balance of sweetness. It was a completely different experience from the texture of the souvenir I had tried before! Among the many souvenirs available, this is a must-try delicacy to be enjoyed on-site. I was truly impressed!

【Visit】March 2018
【Menu】Ume-gaeshi mochi (rice cake filled with sweet bean paste)
【Memory】The approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is full of temptations (laughs). Of course, there's no way to resist them... I bought one Ume-gaeshi mochi from Kasunoya and ate it while walking. The hot rice cake was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the sweetness of the bean paste was a delight for my tired body. I felt like having another one, so I bought one more (laughs). It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

The dashi was flavorful and the seasoning was just right, making it delicious until the end. The miso soup and pickles were also tasty, and although I ordered them casually, it turned out to be a great choice!
