I visited "Umeda Sushi Kappo Nono" on this day. The restaurant is located in Kita-ku, Osaka, a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Umeda Station, along the Ohatsu Tenjin Street. The open and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant is exceptional and draws you in effortlessly. I visited on a weekend after 11:00 PM, and the place was bustling with activity, but I was able to sit at the counter after a short wait. Although I had already eaten and drank at another place earlier, I felt like having sushi, so I asked for a 10-piece sushi set, but it was already sold out. So, I ordered the following instead:
- Tuna sushi assortment (3 pieces) for 850 yen
- White fish sushi assortment (3 pieces) for 480 yen
- Asahi beer (bottle) for 680 yen
- Otoshi (appetizer) for 500 yen
Total: 2,510 yen (2,761 yen including tax)
The menu is very extensive, with a wide variety of options, even though the restaurant is called a sushi kappo. The recommended items are highlighted in red, and there are daily specials as well, so you won't get bored even if you come back multiple times. There was a display case of fish in front of me, and the chef was preparing the sushi right there. However, the sushi itself was disappointingly dry overall. It's unclear whether it's an issue with the fish in the display case or the time between cutting and serving the sushi, as I couldn't see the process up close. Additionally, my seat was right next to the kitchen, and I could see the staff struggling throughout the meal. The atmosphere was more like a battle scene, and it felt like they were more focused on being an izakaya rather than a traditional kappo restaurant. Nevertheless, they have a branch in Kita-Shinchi, so if you can overlook these issues, it could be quite convenient. If you're looking for something other than conveyor belt sushi or izakaya in the Umeda area, I recommend giving it a try! Rating: 3.18 out of 5
