When I visited Dazaifu, I stopped by for lunch. I went around 11:30 on a weekday and was seated within about 10 minutes. I ordered the Wagyu Mentaiko Don. It came with a bento box filled with Wagyu beef, along with somen noodles in a dashi soup. The Wagyu beef was plentiful and paired perfectly with the rice topped with mentaiko and egg. It was delicious!

My brother told me that Dazaifu isn't usually crowded and the food is great, so I decided to go and it was the right choice! There wasn't much of a line and the atmosphere inside was really nice! Even though I don't like spicy food, I was able to enjoy the mentaiko. It was so tasty! There were also cute child staff members doing work experience that day. If I have the chance to visit Fukuoka again, I will definitely go back!

Since coming to Fukuoka, I've had so many more opportunities to eat mentaiko. The mentaiko rice bowl was delicious, but I think I could do without the meat. The restaurant was full of tourists. After visiting Dazaifu, having mentaiko was the perfect combination. Later, I also had some Ume-gaeshi mochi.

Other menu items included a large portion of the Wagyu beef and cod roe rice bowl for 2,600 yen, the cod roe feast rice bowl for 1,800 yen, and the Hakata cod roe creamy udon for 1,500 yen.

As for the food, while you can enjoy the entertaining performance of mentaiko, it was just average. If you're in Fukuoka and want to take Instagram-worthy photos with mentaiko during your trip, you will be very satisfied. I recommend ordering one udon and one bento box.

When the large wooden box was opened, there was a generous portion of rice topped with fluffy scrambled eggs, one piece of mentaiko, and plenty of Wagyu beef. The Wagyu beef had a light seasoning, making it savory but not too heavy. It was delicious without overshadowing the flavor of the mentaiko. It's nice to have mentaiko once in a while too.
