Washoku restaurant located in Otabe, Sawara-ku, along Route 202. It's an established restaurant that I had never noticed before, but a friend told me about it and I decided to visit. The exterior is impressive, and I was seated in a private room which was very calming. The prices of the dishes include tax, but a 10% service charge is added to the bill.
- Chef's choice sushi set meal (1650 yen): Includes small side dishes, sushi (7 pieces of nigiri, 2 pieces of rolled sushi), tempura (4 items), chawanmushi, soup, dessert, etc. The nigiri sushi included salmon, tuna, sea bream, shrimp, squid, amberjack, and sea bream. The rolled sushi had tamagoyaki inside. The quality of the fish and rice was average. The tempura was freshly fried and included shrimp, eggplant, pumpkin, and shishito peppers. Chawanmushi, yellowtail radish, miso soup, and dessert were also included.
- Kizui set meal (1650 yen): Includes small side dishes, sashimi, fish rice porridge, assorted tempura, chawanmushi, rice, soup, dessert, etc. The fish rice porridge was well-seasoned and delicious. The freshly fried tempura was tasty. The sashimi included salmon, seared sea bream, amberjack, and sea bream. The yellowtail radish was well-flavored. The chawanmushi was lightly seasoned with ginkgo nuts and shiitake mushrooms. Cucumber pickles and miso soup were also included. The rice quality was average, but it would be nice if it was a bit tastier considering it's a Japanese restaurant. The dessert was good, especially the fish rice porridge and tempura.
Overall, the 1650 yen price tag offers good value for money, especially considering the quality and quantity of the dishes. However, it would be better if they didn't add a service charge during lunchtime, at least. The service charge seems unnecessary, considering it's just bringing the dishes to the table.
