The other day, I went for a walk aiming to visit Isosawa Kura while exploring Chikugo Yoshii Hina-sama Meguri. While walking through the streets of Chikugo Yoshii, I came across a confectionery shop called "Hitaya Fukutomi" that was open from 9 am. Founded in 1889 in Hita City, the shop later opened in Yoshii in 1947 as "Kastera no Hita-ya" and has been making sweets in this town ever since. The shop uses Yoshii's underground water and makes their own red bean paste from Hokkaido Tokachi beans, showing their dedication to quality. Their kudzu yokan was featured in a magazine, attracting many customers who order it online. The shop had just opened, and although the strawberry daifuku I was eyeing was not yet available, I was drawn to the red bean daifuku already on display, so I bought one and enjoyed it outside. The product had the ingredients clearly listed, with no artificial additives. The mochi was incredibly fluffy to the touch, freshly made in the morning, and had a chewy texture when bitten into. The red bean paste had just the right amount of sweetness, creating a perfect balance. I stopped by for a snack early in the morning, and I felt like I got lucky encountering such a delicious red bean daifuku. I look forward to trying out their other sweets next time.

I received a delicious traditional Japanese sweet like that tasty yokan I had before...? That sparked a family discussion, but we couldn't remember the name. Eventually, we asked the person who gave us the souvenir and found out it was kuzu yokan. Even though we forgot the name, we never forgot the taste of this exceptional treat. When we shared this story, a friend was delighted and sent us some again. Now, after a long time, how does the kuzu yokan taste...? Oh, it's so delicious! The sweetness is gentle, and the texture is smooth and bouncy. This indescribable deliciousness was a treat, thank you!

We visited the Hina Dolls tour in Ukai. It was located on a quaint white-walled street, with Hina Dolls displayed at the entrance. There were various types of sweets available for purchase, both as gifts and individually. We bought a variety of sweets that allowed us to experience the flavors of Ukai City and Yoshii Town. The "Shirakabe Street" offered moist steamed buns with milk bean paste, incorporating Western-style sweets into traditional Japanese confections, which were delicious. The "Shirakabe Sablé" was shaped like the white walls of Yoshii Town, which was unique and had a nice crispy texture. We also tried the "Shiratama Steamed Bun" in the eat-in space at the back. It was surprisingly soft, and the smooth red bean paste filling was delicious. The eat-in space charged for coffee, but green tea and roasted green tea were complimentary.

You can enjoy both sweets and coffee at a confectionery shop on Shirakabe Street. You can buy sweets and get a self-serve coffee for only 132 yen. The coffee is delicious even though it comes from a machine. There is a café space on the right side of the shop where you can enjoy your coffee in a lovely Japanese-style atmosphere.

Around 11 o'clock on a regular day, I decided to stop by while sightseeing at Yoshii's white-walled storehouses to purchase some sweets and eat them in the rest area inside the store. The store is packed with traditional Japanese sweets, but since it's hot out, I opted for chilled fu-manju (wheat gluten steamed bun) and mitarashi dango (skewered rice dumplings in sweet soy sauce). The rest area is designed like a hearth, with miniature food displayed on the edge of the hearth. There's a self-serve tea machine where you can choose between hot and cold green tea or hojicha (roasted green tea). I poured myself a cup of tea and enjoyed the sweets I bought. Both the fu-manju and dango were delicately flavored and delicious. The mitarashi dango, priced around 150 yen, came in a cup rather than on a skewer, and the portion was surprisingly generous, leaving me feeling very satisfied.

During the Edo period, Yoshii-machi in Ukiha City flourished as a post town along the Bungo Kaido, and since the Meiji era, it has thrived as a merchant town. Even today, there are over a dozen well-preserved white-walled storehouses in the old town, making it a charming and nostalgic place. One of the renowned establishments in Yoshii-machi is the long-established Japanese confectionery shop called "Hitaya Fukutomi." Founded in 1889 in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, the shop later relocated to Yoshii-machi and became known as "Hitaya Fukutomi." I purchased their specialty "Kuzu Yokan" this time. It is a two-layered sweet made with Akizuki honkuzu on the top layer and a blend of kuzu and homemade Hokkaido Tokachi red bean paste on the bottom layer. The moderate sweetness and springy texture are simply irresistible. Chilled, it becomes even more delicious, especially in the upcoming season. Nearby, there is also a popular bakery called "Pan no Mokka," known for its unique bread that often has long queues. Combining a stroll through the white-walled storehouses with a visit to these famous establishments in Yoshii is highly recommended. I visited a Japanese confectionery shop next to a bakery I was exploring. The shop had a nice atmosphere, blending in with the traditional feel of Ukimi-cho with its white-walled exterior. There were many photos of the famous singer Junji Takarajima, who is apparently from the nearby area. I bought some Japanese sweets as souvenirs and enjoyed them in the shop's dining area. The sweets, particularly the lightly sweetened bean daifuku, were delicious.

Along White Wall Street, there is a traditional Japanese sweets shop. They offer a variety of sweets named after local specialties, priced around 100 yen each, making them affordable. They also sell items individually. For example: Kappa Sumo, Kofun Village, Ukiha Castella, Shirakabe Sablé, Miminou, Shirakabe Street, Ukiha Manju, and more. These simple yet delicious traditional sweets come in beautiful packaging, making them great souvenirs. Personally, I recommend the Shirakabe Sablé shaped like a white wall storehouse and the moist Shirakabe Street. Enjoying your favorite sweets with Hida coffee in the cozy cafe corner is also recommended, as the atmosphere pairs well with the sweets. Hida coffee goes really well with Japanese sweets. Thank you for the meal!

I stopped by a traditional Japanese confectionery shop on my way back from the bakery because I was feeling hot and thirsty. I was lured in by the sign saying they had coffee, but it turned out to be a shop with a nostalgic atmosphere. I decided to look at the Japanese sweets they had. I ordered two carp-shaped sweets and cold brew coffee. There was a self-service tea station for dining in. Since I was feeling hot, I chose the cold brew coffee. The carp-shaped sweets had a gentle sweetness to them. It was a nice little treat to replenish my energy after walking around. The cold brew coffee was quite light and served in a small portion, but it was properly cold, which was good. There were signed autographs displayed inside the shop. Sometimes, Japanese sweets are also a good choice.

The best kuzumochi in life. Perfect color, price, and taste. No complaints. When left in the refrigerator overnight, the deliciousness triples. I want to serve this as a tea snack all the time. In these times, my family enjoyed it together. The best. Thank you very much.

I arrived at this place to buy souvenirs of Ukiha City, Yoshii Town's traditional sweets. The store was moderately busy, and they had cafe au lait daifuku. I bought 2 boxes of kuzu yokan, a specialty of Yoshii Town. The store also had a cafe where I purchased cafe au lait daifuku for 115 yen. They offered two types of complimentary tea. The cafe au lait daifuku had a firm outer layer, which was disappointing. The kuzu yokan was smooth and elegant with a mild sweetness, suitable for souvenirs. Taste: 32/50, Cost performance: 10/20, Atmosphere: 12/20, Service: 7/10. Overall rating: 61/100. Restaurant information: Fukuoka Prefecture, Ukiha City, Yoshii Town 1127-3, Phone: 0943-75-2465.

The "restaurant study agency" Okubo Kazuhiko is lurking in Ukiha City, Yoshii Town, Fukuoka Prefecture. Yes, it's a retro town. Recently, I came to study at a retro shop with a ticket machine, but oh my goodness! It's closed. So, for no reason, I wandered around the white wall street. While wandering, I found an interesting shop! Let's study there right away. Life is about studying. It's a calm space. There is a small garden through the window. And I tried their specialty "kudzu yokan" ... Wow, it's amazing. Smooth texture and melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Okashidokoro Hitaya Fukutomi, Yoshii Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Hitaya - I received some chestnut dorayaki from a relative of the Fukutomi family, and it was delicious. It is said that their kuzu yokan is famous as well, so I am looking forward to trying that too. The dorayaki had plenty of chopped chestnuts inside, and the dough and sweet bean paste were amazing. The dough had just the right amount of sweetness and elasticity. The sweet bean paste was not too sweet, and the large grains of sweet bean matched well with the chestnuts. The atmosphere of the shop seems nice too, with a calm and relaxing vibe. I have also joined the Tabelog blog ranking, so if you don't mind, please click to vote for me. Thank you!

My cousin took me to a charming traditional Japanese confectionery shop that she said was really nice. It is located on a famous street called Shirakabe-dori, with an elegant atmosphere that makes you forget about your daily life (although it was really hot that day...). The shop was standing gracefully in the quiet street. Due to the intense heat, we decided to not only get some treats to go but also have some shaved ice. I ordered the plum shaved ice for 350 yen. Inside the shop, there was a room on the left for dining in, where you can get your own drinks and tea, but they bring the shaved ice to your table. There were many traditional Japanese sweets displayed in the shop, making it hard to choose. We found a nice spot, poured some cold tea, and took a break. The cups we used were to be returned in a basket by the exit. The shop had a soothing atmosphere like an old Japanese house. The shaved ice arrived, and we dug in right away. The fluffy ice paired with the sweet and tangy plum syrup was refreshing and revitalizing. We also bought three Maruboro (round rice cakes) for 60 yen each and two Kuri (chestnut) sweets for 180 yen each, totaling 540 yen. Back home, we brewed some tea and enjoyed the treats together. The Maruboro had a simple and rustic flavor, while the Kuri was moist with chunks of chestnut and a subtly sweet taste. It was a delightful trip.

This is a confectionery shop located in Yoshii, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Yoshii, where this shop is located, used to be a bustling town along the highway connecting Kurume Domain and Hita Tenryo, and still retains a charming atmosphere with its white-walled streets. I received the "Shirakabe Sablé" as a souvenir, which is modeled after the white walls of the town. When you open the package with a drawing of a white-walled storehouse, you will find a sablé cookie shaped like the storehouse, with white granulated sugar sprinkled on the walls to mimic the white walls. The taste is very similar to "H**oko Sablé". This would make a perfect souvenir from this area for tourists, wouldn't it?

"Hita-ya Fukutomi" is a famous shop known for its kuzu yokan. You can take a break here and enjoy the products you bought inside the shop. They also offer coffee and hojicha. I tried the "Cafe au lait Daifuku" which had a chewy mochi with coffee-flavored red bean paste and cream. It was delicious! The "Shiratama Manju" was also great, with its smooth white texture. I couldn't resist and ate it on the spot, even though it was meant for takeout. There was also a long-haired kappa statue here, a water guardian deity.

I found this while exploring the "Chikugo Yoshii Hina-sama Meguri" that started on February 10th. In addition to the antique hina dolls and the white-walled storehouses, Yoshii Town is also holding an event called "Ukiha Sweets Meguri," focusing on sweets. There was a pamphlet for a sweets tour as well! Unfortunately, I didn't know about this information beforehand... If I had known, I would have been more prepared to visit... ( ̄ー ̄;) *sigh* They have "Ore Daifuku" (100 yen each) with three flavors. The outer layer is a thin and soft mochi-like texture. Coffee... the filling is white bean paste flavored with coffee, with a creamy coffee taste. Matcha... the mochi is matcha-colored, with red bean paste inside and a creamy matcha flavor in the center. Chocolate... the mochi has chocolate mixed in, with a white bean paste filling flavored like chocolate. The center has a creamy chocolate flavor. Due to the Hina Doll Festival, the place was bustling, especially with their recommended "Strawberry Daifuku" selling out quickly. They offer self-serve coffee for 100 yen and a resting area, which is a nice touch. Each house (shop) is carefully maintained in an old building style, with a spacious room with an earthen floor when you open the door. The wide earthen floor, low ceiling, and steep stairs... it's nostalgic! ( ̄ー ̄*) (Wait, how old are you? Haha) It may not be a large-scale place, but strolling through the town with a sweet treat in hand on a mild day is also enjoyable.

At 3 o'clock, I had kuzu yokan for a snack. The kuzu part bounced back on the fork, so springy. It has an amazing elasticity. The sweetness is subtle and the taste is elegant. A friend gave me this kuzu yokan, and it was delicious. I often have kuzu manju, which is soft and smooth like water, but this kuzu yokan has a firm texture, making it hard for the fork to go through. It has a great bouncy and smooth texture. This kuzu yokan seems to be boasting of its beauty. It tastes especially delicious when chilled, and it can also be frozen. The kuzu used is from Akizuki, and the red bean paste is from Hokkaido, which makes it delicious. I only had a small piece, but it was delicious. The kuzu part is firm in shape, not too soft, and has a subtle bouncy texture, which is the charm of kuzu. This unique kuzu yokan is priced at 680 yen, which is cheap. If you go to Yoshii Soba, you should buy it. It's a great find that is both affordable and delicious. Kuzu yokan.

This is a confectionery shop in Yoshii Town, which used to be a post town on the Buzen Kaido in Fukuoka. It moved to its current location in 2005. There is also a tea room attached, where you can enjoy the sweets on the spot. I found out later that they were famous for their kuzu yokan, but unfortunately, I didn't buy any. I bought several different sweets from this shop, and they were delicious. I ate them on the way, so I only have photos of two types, but there were many delicious-looking sweets lined up. They had sweets like Keisou (white bean paste bun with cinnamon flavor), Castella Manju (manju with castella-flavored dough and white bean paste), Coffee Daifuku, Shirakabe Sablé, and more.

I have some free time until my lunch reservation, so I decided to wander around Yoshii Town, which is currently hosting the "Chikugo Yoshii Hina-sama Meguri" event. Armed with a pamphlet created by the organizing committee, my friend and I explored shops specializing in traditional wooden crafts and even saw the largest Hina dolls in Japan. While the Hina dolls were impressive, my attention was drawn to the food establishments. I stumbled upon a charming traditional Japanese confectionery shop with a unique name, "Hitaya Fukutomi," in Yoshii. Despite being in Ukiha, it had a Hita vibe. Intrigued by the name and the design of the building, we decided to go in. The shop was bustling with customers and displayed a wide variety of traditional Japanese sweets. In one corner, customers could enjoy the sweets they purchased. One particular item caught my eye, the "Uguisu Mochi (3 pieces for 330 yen)." The vibrant color of the "Uguisu" bird powder was a clear nod to the season. I bought packs of 3 and 2 pieces as souvenirs. When I tried them at home, I was delighted by the elegant sweetness of the red bean paste and the moist, high-quality mochi. It was a truly satisfying treat. I would love to try other products from this delicious shop in the future. Thank you for the meal. PS. Upon rereading the pamphlet for the "Chikugo Yoshii Hina-sama Meguri" event later, I discovered that the shop was featured in a national gourmet magazine. It turns out it was quite famous.
