I was aiming for something different, but it was too hot... When it's hot, I crave curry. Is this place open? It was open and not crowded at all. Today's curry was written outside, and it was a choice between meat curry with burdock miso or bean curry. I'm not a big fan of burdock or miso in curry, but oh well, I entered. It's a chaotic restaurant. The music is a mix of Japanese and American 90's alternative, blasting away. This is exactly what I imagine an Osaka spice curry shop to be like. A chaotic musician running a restaurant during the day (biased opinion). It's a one-person operation, so you have to get your own water and pickles. You also have to tell the owner behind the counter what you want to order from your seat. "I'll have jasmine rice, please!" I ordered the meat curry and bean curry combo. The bean curry has chickpeas, green beans, and thin fried tofu. Even though I'm not a fan of all the ingredients today, I chose them from the menu so it's my own fault. It arrived quickly. Let's start with the bean curry... It's surprisingly flavorful. Even though it's a bean curry, it's hearty. Chickpeas, green beans, and fried tofu. Since there's no clear source of umami in this veggie curry, I think there's plenty of sugar cane-derived ingredients in it. Nonetheless, it's quite tasty. Even though it's a veggie curry, it's rich. The meat curry is miso burdock. There are chunks of burdock in it, but for some reason, the flavor is almost nonexistent. Burdock usually has a strong taste, right? Well, I'm not a big fan of burdock's flavor, so I prefer it this way. Despite being labeled as miso, there's hardly any miso flavor. But there's a good amount of richness and umami. It's strong in flavor. This one is sweeter in taste. The rice is jasmine rice, but it's quite moist. I wish it had more of the characteristics of basmati rice, like being fluffy. The cabbage pickles I took myself are just overly salty. I shouldn't have taken these... I might sound a bit biased in my comments, but overall, the balance is good, the spiciness is mild, and it was simply delicious. If it had my favorite ingredients that day, I might have praised it more straightforwardly. Thank you for the meal.
