At the nine major hospitals, I always get nervous during regular check-ups. After finding out that there are no problems, I feel relieved and then go for lunch. Today, I went to "Ajifurai Taru Taru Shokudo" for the first time in a while. They offer four lunch options: - Ajifurai set meal for 970 yen - Chicken Nanban set meal for 970 yen - Pork Ginger set meal for 1000 yen - Toriten set meal for 970 yen I couldn't decide between Ajifurai and Chicken Nanban, but I ended up choosing the Chicken Nanban set meal and also ordered Ajifurai on the side. The Chicken Nanban was juicy with a sweet vinegar sauce and plenty of tartar sauce, which was irresistible. The Ajifurai had a crispy and fluffy texture, and I couldn't get enough of it. The tartar sauce was refreshing, making it easy to eat more. The rice was delicious too. The atmosphere of the restaurant was more like a cafe, which allowed me to relax and enjoy my meal. Being able to eat healthily is truly a blessing. I always think that when I come here. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Visited Ajifurai Tarutaru Shokudo for the first time! There is no parking lot, and the restaurant is a two-story building. I ordered the Ajifurai set meal for 970 yen! It came with Ajifurai, three side dishes, miso soup, rice, and a separate plate of homemade tartar sauce with sweet Kyushu soy sauce. The seasoning overall was delicious, especially the Ajifurai which had no fishy taste and the meat was fluffy and amazing. I will definitely come back again!

The sign at the front entrance said "Sold out" when I passed by the store front. On this day, I had a day trip to Fukuoka for work and went to Taru Taru Shokudo with the Fukuoka manager, who is also my classmate from elementary and middle school. Both of us ordered the limited-time sardine fry set meal! It came with two sardines and two types of sauce, plum sauce and Worcestershire sauce. The fact that you can change the sauce is a plus point. The miso soup was delicious. The freshly fried sardines were also very tasty. In addition to sardine fry, there were other options like chicken nanban and ginger pork on the menu, making it a place I would like to visit if there is a store near my office. The interior of the store is clean, although a bit small, but once you sit down, it's not a problem. Next time, I will challenge the sardine fry. Thank you for the meal.

I heard it was delicious from a friend, so I decided to try it out. I was surprised to see that there were many female customers inside the restaurant. I ordered a set with 2 pieces of fried horse mackerel, 1 fried shrimp, and rice. The tartar sauce for the horse mackerel was delicious, and the fried food was well-balanced and tasty without any fishy smell. The tartar sauce for the shrimp had a slightly different taste with sesame seeds in it. It was also delicious. I would like to visit this restaurant again!

I visited for lunch. The place was busy during lunchtime. The restaurant has two floors, and I was seated on the second floor as the first floor was full. The second floor had a cafe-like atmosphere with large windows, giving a sense of openness. I ordered the popular dish, the fried horse mackerel set meal (970 yen). The horse mackerel was carefully deboned, making it easy for children to eat. The tartar sauce served seemed homemade and had a creamy flavor. You can also add lemon and soy sauce to your liking. The meal also came with miso soup, cold tofu, dried radish strips, and pickles, so I was full by the end of the meal. I appreciated the attention to detail and the delicious taste. I will definitely visit again!

I had a dental checkup at a major hospital and stopped by this restaurant on the way back. There were two other women dining alone on the first floor besides me. I was tempted by the Chicken Nanban, but ended up ordering the Fried Horse Mackerel set for 970 yen. The horse mackerel was on the smaller side, probably around 150g. It was made with wild-caught fish, which is becoming harder to come by these days. The fish was fresh and the fried dish was quite tasty. It came with tartar sauce as well as soy sauce on the side.

Around 2:00 PM, I called and hurried to visit after hearing that the last order was at 2:30 PM. There are 5 two-person tables on the first floor, and there are also seats on the second floor. It was my first visit, so I ordered the fried horse mackerel set meal. They said the rice was steaming, so it would take a little time. It was served in about 10 minutes. The fried horse mackerel was crispy and delicious, especially when topped with plenty of tartar sauce. The sauce was also quite good. The miso soup was also delicious, which made me happy. Thank you for the meal.

The restaurant is located right near the Maejima Kyudai Hospital subway station. They offer dishes like fried horse mackerel set meal, chicken nanban, and ginger pork. You can also add curry on the side. The fried horse mackerel set meal costs 970 yen and comes with rice, miso soup, pickles, cold tofu, and a small side dish (dried daikon in this case). You can choose from small to large portions for the rice. The fried horse mackerel was crispy and delicious, with no bones. The tartar sauce was light and lacked an eggy taste, which may not suit everyone's preference. Despite it being towards the end of lunchtime, the restaurant was still busy with customers coming in one after another.

I visited around 8 pm because I felt like having a drink. There was a group of girls enjoying their meal and having a light beer. Unfortunately, they were out of fried horse mackerel, so I ordered fried shrimp and sesame mackerel instead. Both dishes were very good. I wanted to have the sesame mackerel with sake. The fried shrimp had a crispy and fluffy coating, and the texture of the shrimp was soft and chewy. The tartar sauce was just right. The atmosphere was calmer than a typical izakaya, so it's a good place to enjoy delicious food with a relaxed group. Just make sure to arrive earlier next time :-)

I ate fried horse mackerel at a specialty store?! Fried Horse Mackerel at Taru Taru Shokudo Near the Prefectural Office in the Afternoon I wanted to try Fukuya's powder dishes for the first time in a while at 13:35, but they were closed. So I easily entered the nearby restaurant. The inside of the restaurant can seat about 10 people in pairs. They also seem to offer take-out side dishes. I was curious about the Pork Ginger (Chamiton), but I ordered the Fried Horse Mackerel set meal (950 yen) which is also used in the store's name. It was brought to me promptly. There were about 3 slices of horse mackerel, which I ate with a refreshing Worcestershire sauce and a rich tartar sauce. I started by eating the shredded cabbage to prevent a rapid increase in blood sugar levels. As a side dish, there were dried radish and cold tofu. The pickles seemed to be takana (mustard greens). Now, I will eat the fried horse mackerel! I squeezed lemon and started with the Worcestershire sauce. It was delicious and refreshing. Next, I ate it with plenty of tartar sauce. It's definitely best with tartar sauce! Since it was sliced, I could dip it directly into the sauce while eating. I finished it in no time. Speaking of tartar sauce, I'm curious about Chicken Nanban. I would like to come back again. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived in Fukuoka just before lunchtime. What will you eat in Fukuoka? Tonkotsu ramen? Sounds good (^。^) Yawata udon from Fukuoka? Yes, sounds good (^。^) Eh? Motsunabe? Well, okay (^。^) Huh!? Katsu curry? .....(*´∀`*) I think all of those are good choices, but I decided to go for fried horse mackerel ( ⸝⸝⸝⁼̴́⌄⁼̴̀⸝⸝⸝). It's a restaurant I wanted to visit when I lived in Kitakyushu but never had the chance. It's located near Bameda Kyudai Hospital Station on the Fukuoka City Subway, close to Fukuoka Prefectural Government and Kyushu University Hospital. By the way, "Bameda Kyudai Hospital" is pronounced as "Maidashi." It's a difficult thing with place names, right? The restaurant is run by women and has a very clean and tidy atmosphere, even though it mainly serves fried dishes. The lunch menu had horse mackerel... huh? Chicken nanban is also available (*´ρ`*) This is a dilemma. While I came here to have horse mackerel, I also want to try chicken nanban. What should I do? (・:゚д゚:・)ハァハァ Since I don't come here often, why not have both? (∗ᵒ̶̶̷̀ω˂̶́∗)੭₎₎̊₊♡ I ordered the horse mackerel set meal and added a side of chicken nanban. The rice comes in a large portion for free, so of course I chose the large portion (^ω^) The horse mackerel is made from natural horse mackerel. The crispy coating and plump, flavorful horse mackerel filled my mouth. Even though it's not horse mackerel season now, they serve such delicious horse mackerel (*^-^*) The horse mackerel from the horse mackerel center Ogumo-san in Hakata was also delicious, and the horse mackerel from Do you like horse mackerel? in Nerima was also delicious, but this horse mackerel has a slightly different taste profile, which is also very satisfying ( *థ౪థ) The horse mackerel comes with both soy sauce dashi and tartar sauce. And then there's the chicken nanban. The tender and flavorful chicken, with no chewy cartilage, is enhanced by the black vinegar sauce, and the tartar sauce is incredibly delicious! ( ☉д⊙) The restaurant proudly carries the name "Tartar" for a reason. Although I didn't have high expectations as it was a "homework" restaurant, I honestly felt that it was a good decision to visit. I slurped up the slightly sweet Kyushu miso soup and felt completely satisfied (๑ ́ᄇ`๑) I'd love to come back again~~ Delicious horse mackerel always brightens up my day! Thank you for the meal.

(2022.10.20) About three months ago, I visited this restaurant with the intention of having fried horse mackerel, but this time I decided to try their Chicken Nanban, which seems to be quite popular. It's conveniently located just a minute's walk from the subway station, so I revisited the restaurant. Arriving around 13:00 to avoid the busy lunch rush, I was able to be seated right away at a two-person table near the entrance. Although the 10 seats on the first floor were occupied, there were also customers on the second floor. The staff seemed busy attending to the customers coming in and out, as well as cooking, but they greeted everyone in a cheerful and pleasant manner, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The Chicken Nanban I had here had a fluffy egg coating with a sweet vinegar sauce made with black vinegar, giving it a dark appearance. Not only was the coating crispy and flavorful, but the chicken itself was tender and juicy, allowing the rich flavor and aroma of the black vinegar to shine through. The tartar sauce generously drizzled on top was light and complemented the dish well without being overpowering. The horse mackerel fry I ordered from the toppings menu was meticulously prepared, with all the small bones removed cleanly, indicating its freshness. There was no fishy smell typical of blue fish, and the horse mackerel was fried to perfection, with a plump texture and a crispy breadcrumb coating. In the evening, the restaurant operates as a dining and drinking establishment, offering items such as sesame horse mackerel, Camembert cheese fry, homemade chashu, Unzen ham cutlet, and beef tendon stew. This suggests that both lunch and dinner options are delicious and worth trying.

Fukuoka City Higashi-ku, Umade 2-2-3 area - 2 minutes walk from the subway "Umade Kyudai Hospital Mae Station"! Nearby are the prefectural office and Kyushu University Hospital. This place opened in April 2019! It is located in a corner where restaurants are lined up! The exterior and interior use a calm and modern atmosphere with wood tones! The restaurant has counter seats and table seats on the 1st and 2nd floors! Perhaps one reason why there are many female customers is because all the staff are women? The menu focuses on dishes that feature the concept of "tartar sauce." We ordered the "Horse Mackerel Fry Set"! When ordering from the hall staff, they ask about the "amount of rice" you want, but for first-time customers, it would be better to provide clear guidance on whether the "large serving" is free or at an additional cost! Later, I noticed the "Food Loss Reduction Guide" posted sideways on the table, which states "Large serving / 250g," "Regular / 180g," "Small / 110g," and "Large serving / Free," so why not use this for guidance? The "Horse Mackerel Fry Set" that was served includes 3 pieces of "Horse Mackerel Fry," salad, cold tofu, miso soup, dried radish, pickles, and rice! First, try the "Horse Mackerel Fry" with the special "tartar sauce" on top - the crispy texture of the fry is firm, and the mackerel is thick and reasonably well done! However, the "tartar sauce" is sweet! It's so sweet that when you add soy sauce, even the soy sauce tastes sweet! It's a divisive taste preference. If there was Worcestershire sauce, it would offset this sweetness and create a better balance, but there seems to be a strong insistence on serving with sweet "tartar" and "soy sauce." Eating it with rice, the smell of the rice cooker sticks to the rice and is not great! I recommend getting a new rice cooker! The miso soup is also sweet, and the overall meal seems to cater to a sweet tooth, which might appeal to women. It was an interesting meal. Thank you. Enjoy Gourmet Life☆

(2022.07.11) Over the past 2-3 years, there seems to be a bit of a trend for Aji Fry (Japanese horse mackerel fry) in restaurants. Not only are there more places that emphasize the origin of the fish, but some places also specialize in serving only Aji Fry. It's nice to see that there are more places where you can enjoy delicious Aji Fry. One such place I visited is "Aji Fry Taru Taru Shokudo" located near the East Gate of Kyushu University Hospital. While it's not exclusively an Aji Fry restaurant, it's clear from the name that Aji Fry is a specialty and you can expect some delicious Aji Fry there. When I arrived at 1:00 pm, there were no customers at the 10-seat restaurant, but soon the seats started filling up with customers coming in one after another. Some customers were even directed to the second floor due to the popularity of the place. The lunch menu offers Aji Fry, Chicken Nanban, Pork Ginger, and Toriten (chicken tempura) set meals. Since my goal was to try the Aji Fry, I didn't hesitate to order the "Aji Fry set meal." The staff asked me how much rice I wanted, and I opted for a bit more. I learned that they offer a choice of small, regular, or large portions to reduce food waste. The Aji Fry is made from natural horse mackerel, and the fish is carefully prepared with the bones removed. The crispy texture from the medium-coarse breadcrumbs and the juicy, plump fish suggest that a lot of care went into the preparation. In addition to tartar sauce, soy sauce was also provided. As a soy sauce lover, I tried one piece with soy sauce first, but the homemade tartar sauce was also delicious, so I ended up enjoying two out of the three pieces with the tartar sauce. The delightful taste of the Aji Fry was complemented by the homemade miso soup and the friendly staff who served me with a warm smile. It was a wonderful restaurant that provided a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

I saw on "Aiseki Shokudo" by Chidori that Matsura City in Nagasaki Prefecture is the holy land of fried horse mackerel, and the next day I visited this place that I had been curious about for a long time. "Ajifurai Tarutaru Shokudo" is located near the prefectural office, at the corner of the "Kyushu University Higashimon" intersection where Kyushu University Hospital is located. I had tried to visit twice before, but it was full and I had to give up. This time, I visited after the lunch peak hour had passed. When I entered and said I was alone, I was guided to the second floor. The shop was smaller than I had expected, and it seems that solo customers are usually seated at the counter on the second floor. As I climbed the stairs, I found a more stylish space. And all around me were female customers... (laughs) I want to believe it was just a coincidence. I ordered the [Ajifurai set meal] (950 yen) that I was looking for. After a while, it was brought to me on a tray. Oh... it's a splendid set meal. The main dish, the fried horse mackerel, consisted of three thick pieces, rice, a small side dish of dried daikon radish and chilled tofu, pickles, and miso soup. I immediately tried the fried horse mackerel. With plenty of tartar sauce and soy sauce on the side. I first drizzled a little soy sauce... and took a bite. Wow, it's delicious! This is a plump and fluffy fried horse mackerel. I didn't need anything other than soy sauce with fried fish, but the abundant tartar sauce made me happy and I used it all up. The side dishes and miso soup were also delicious... It was a very satisfying lunch. Thank you for the meal. I should have come here sooner. It's a bit too fancy for an old man like me, but... I want to become a regular customer at this shop. I also have a blog where I review bars and restaurants while drinking. → [Ajifurai Tarutaru Shokudo] *The photos have been increased.

I went in search of fried horse mackerel. The place was near Fukuoka Prefectural Government Office, with no parking so I had to use a coin parking nearby. The restaurant was small and cozy. They are open at night as well. I decided to go for the fried horse mackerel set meal priced at 950 yen with extra rice. The extra rice is free, but if you want a refill it costs an additional 100 yen so be aware of that. The fried horse mackerel was served promptly and looked delicious. When I poured tartar sauce over it, it was crispy and tasty, freshly fried. They select only fresh domestic horse mackerel, so they must be confident in their quality. I also tried dipping it in sauce, and it was even better with tartar sauce. It was a delicious meal.

I visited the restaurant after 8 pm and it was almost full (the seating is not that many). I ordered the famous fried horse mackerel, and it was crispy on the outside and thick in meat. The tartar sauce had a good sweet and savory flavor. It came with dried radish, sautéed burdock, and miso soup, making me feel like I was eating a home-cooked meal.

On Saturday, after work until noon, I was driving around looking for lunch. The restaurant I had in mind was either too crowded or closed, so things weren't going smoothly. Then I remembered about Taru Taru Shokudo, a place I had visited before. I had the Chicken Nanban set meal last time. The tender chicken Nanban with homemade tartar sauce was absolutely delicious. This time, I arrived around 1:30 pm, and the last order for lunch was at 2:30 pm. The place was still bustling with customers. I decided to try their signature dish, the Ajifry set meal (950 yen including tax). The meal came with a plate of Ajifry, a side dish of dried radish and cold tofu, miso soup, and pickled vegetables. It felt like a home-cooked meal. The Ajifry used natural ingredients and was served hot and crispy. The batter was thin and crispy, unlike the thick and crunchy ones you find in supermarkets. The Ajifry was so delicious that it could change anyone's opinion about Ajifry. The homemade tartar sauce and soy sauce provided were both excellent condiments. Despite the small and cozy atmosphere of the restaurant, the Ajifry here is a must-try dish that is worth waiting for.

I visited a restaurant that I had been interested in for a while, on my way back from Toka Ebisu. The staff were all young women with good manners, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and pleasant. I ordered the fried horse mackerel set with an additional egg tempura, and my partner ordered the chicken nanban set. I confirmed with the staff that it was possible to get a rice refill as mentioned in previous reviews, and they happily confirmed it. The horse mackerel was served with three thick slices and two small side dishes. It was nice to have both tartar sauce and regular sauce. There were some small bones left in the mackerel, but it wasn't a big deal. The egg tempura was delicious, especially when eaten with rice. My partner also enjoyed the chicken nanban immediately. They were considering adding egg tempura as well, so they asked the staff for a refill, but to our surprise, the staff said it would cost an additional 100 yen. My partner gave me a look as if to say, "You should have mentioned that earlier!" We decided not to order the egg tempura and just got the refill. Later, we saw a regular-looking customer ordering a large serving by saying, "Make it a large serving!" It made us wonder if the large serving was free? It would have been nice to know that earlier! [Next day update] Since I received some likes, I opened the restaurant's page on Tabelog and looked at the menu images. To my surprise, there was a note at the bottom center mentioning that you could get a large serving or a refill! I thought I had checked the menu thoroughly, but I must have missed it. I apologize for the oversight. However, I still wish that the staff had mentioned the 100 yen charge for the refill when I asked. Therefore, I will keep my original rating. [Further update] My partner reminded me that the menu we saw at our table was different from the menu image on Tabelog. The one we had at our table had a topping menu at the bottom, so I don't think the information about the refill was there (laughs).

I had planned to take a half day off from work in the afternoon, but ended up working until regular hours. Feeling hungry on my way home, I decided to stop by this restaurant. I've noticed many places selling fried horse mackerel recently, and I've been wanting to visit one. Finally, I made it to this place near Bajodai Kyudai-mae Station. I parked my car nearby and went in. Even though it was early evening, I was able to get a table easily, but I imagine it might be busier during lunchtime. I wonder if they have a second floor? It would be great to enjoy fried horse mackerel with a drink, but since I was driving, I had to stick to non-alcoholic beverages. I just can't get enough of fried horse mackerel! Here's what I ordered: Fried horse mackerel set for 950 yen, which includes 3 pieces of fried horse mackerel, rice, miso soup, pickles, cold tofu, and a small side dish. I also ordered half a portion of sesame horse mackerel sashimi for 420 yen because I also enjoy sashimi. The fried horse mackerel wasn't whole fish, but rather thick and substantial pieces. They were fluffy and crispy, with a generous amount of tartar sauce. There was enough cabbage to go with the sauce. They also provided Worcestershire sauce for flavor variation. The small side dish and cold tofu added a healthy balance to the meal. The sesame horse mackerel sashimi was delicious. I felt really happy. Thank you for the meal.
