It is a popular restaurant, but I was able to enter after waiting for about 10 minutes. I wrote down my phone number on a form and waited in front of the restaurant, and they called me when my table was ready. I ordered a seafood bowl, which came with marinated sashimi. Personally, I prefer seafood bowls without marinated sashimi. They don't offer lunch menu on weekends.

On this day, I suddenly decided to visit the Munakata Taisha shrine and stopped by here. I actually wanted to visit a few shops in the area, but they all closed for lunch one after another, leaving me stranded. So, I ended up at this sushi restaurant! I had an unexpectedly luxurious meal and I was very satisfied. I had the "Genkai set" which was delicious with fresh sushi. The side dishes and miso soup were also tasty. The tempura was amazing too. I really enjoyed the sushi set for lunch. The tempura was also delicious. For those who don't like raw fish, the staff recommended onigiri and tempura, which was a great suggestion. The onigiri was also tasty. The restaurant was originally started by fishermen, so it's no wonder the food is so good!

I had a fugu course meal. There was a generous amount of sashimi and I was very satisfied. The price was 4,620 yen, which I think is reasonable compared to other places. It was a Sunday, so people who didn't have a reservation were told there was a 2-hour wait. They also had a live squid set meal, so I would like to try that next time.

The legs of the squid are moving on the plate! The set meal photo features freshly sliced transparent squid as the main dish, with enough rice for three people, miso soup, pickles, chawanmushi, and dessert. The squid has a chewy texture and is delicious. The fins and tentacles are made into tempura, which is unexpectedly plentiful. The tempura is crispy and delicious with salt, but it also looks tasty with tempura dipping sauce. Despite the unfortunate weather and the location accessible only by car, the restaurant is popular with customers coming in one after another, and it's easy to understand why.

The squid sashimi was incredibly fresh and delicious, with a firm texture. But what really surprised me was when they asked, "How would you like the leftovers prepared?" I was expecting tempura, but they also offered sashimi. Sashimi as leftovers? I had never heard of that before. Without hesitation, I chose sashimi. And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend choosing sashimi as well!

It's the season for "yariika" (fresh squid) and I had a job in Munakata City. (laughs) I finished work in about 15 minutes and headed straight to the coast. I went to the highly recommended restaurant "Wakashio Maru." The restaurant is located along National Route 495, right next to Genkai Golf Club. I arrived at 11:30. The parking lot with about 20 spaces was almost full. Just to clarify, it's a weekday...(;_;) As soon as I entered the restaurant, I saw a sign for "live squid set meal for 2 people or more." Wait, my target dish is right there... (>_<) The staff guided me to a counter seat right by the entrance. The counter has 4 seats, with each pair separated by partitions, so when you're alone, you have a spacious space to recover your spirits a bit. Furthermore, I overheard the staff saying, "This is the last seat." All customers without reservations were told to "wait outside. We will call you when a seat becomes available." This made me feel even happier. (laughs) Anyway, since I was visiting alone, ordering the "live squid set meal" for 2 people would be too much for me to finish. (Of course, financially impossible as well. (laughs)) I flipped through the menu and found it! Weekday limited lunch set meal of 3 types. The lunch set meals are divided into 'sushi,' 'simmered dish,' and 'tempura.' All are priced at 1,100 yen (tax included), about 1/3 of the price of the "live squid set meal." Yes, decision made! ( ̄ー ̄) When I asked, "What kind of fish is in the simmered dish?" they said it could be sea bream, amberjack, or sea bass, among others. You can't specify the fish when ordering. So, I chose the 'simmered dish set meal' leaving it to chance. The service time was about 10 minutes. The tray that was served had a large plate with simmered sea bream with its head. When I tried it, the fish was plump. The side dish was vinegared mackerel. Both were the type that goes well with rice, but it seemed like I needed more rice! (laughs) As I was eating, more and more customers kept coming in... While walk-in customers were giving up one after another, reserved customers were also coming in a lot. If you have a plan, I recommend making a reservation. After enjoying the meal and leaving, the parking lot outside was chaotic with cars waiting for a space. I wonder which car that was waiting actually took the parking spot I left? Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by 【Wakashio Maru】 on my way back from fishing after a long time. This time, I didn't have much luck with the catch during the short fishing trip, so I decided to eat some fish before heading home (laughs). I just made it in time before they stopped taking orders! I caught some squid so I passed on that. I wanted to indulge a bit, so I ordered the Wakashio Don. It's a bowl of marinated sashimi. It came with a side dish, chawanmushi, miso soup, and pickles for 1,320 yen. It was delicious with seaweed, wasabi, and pickles on top. I was so hungry that I devoured it! Oh no (^_^;) As I was eating, I noticed that I could have made ochazuke with it, there was a pot of tea placed quietly at the edge of the table... The chawanmushi was delicious. I savored it slowly! I finished by sipping the miso soup. I realized at the payment counter that they only accepted cash, no cards or electronic money. It would be better if they stopped this cash-only policy, especially if they want to attract tourists with the nearby Michi-no-Eki. Thank you for the meal.

When I visited my wife's hometown, we went to eat as a family. They are famous for their squid dishes, and even that place in Kyushu known for squid apparently sources their squid from Munakata. However, today they had no squid available. Despite this, the kids, who love sashimi, happily enjoyed their sashimi set meals. The sea bream was delicious! I had something called Wakanami-don, which consisted of fresh sashimi marinated and served with wasabi and sauce. It was a bit pricier, as is typical in tourist areas (even though they are closer to the source than cities), but the food was delicious. Lastly, I had it as ochazuke, which I prefer due to the slightly strong sauce. My mother-in-law moved in with us this spring, so I may not be able to eat the squid here anymore. Thinking about that made me feel a bit sad. Thank you for the meal.

I visited an old friend's house during my homecoming trip and they introduced me to a great fish restaurant. The restaurant, located just a bit past Kami Minato Port, had a relaxed atmosphere and was run by a former fisherman. While they had a variety of seasonal seafood, the standout was the live squid. It had a glossy, semi-transparent appearance with a chewy texture and delicious flavor. It was great as sashimi, but half of it was also served as tempura, which was equally amazing. I paired the tempura with cold sake, which complemented the dish perfectly. Feeling excited, I upgraded my meal to a seafood bowl (Wakashio Don) for the finale. I thoroughly enjoyed all the seafood until the end.

When I heard about live squid sashimi, I thought of Yobuko, but if you can eat such fresh live squid sashimi in Munakata, you don't need to go all the way to Yobuko. We went to Munakata for a family trip to Fukuoka. We made a lunch reservation at Wakashio Maru in front of the hotel. When we called to say we would be about 30 minutes late, they were very accommodating on the phone. When we arrived, they saw we had children and said it was okay to sit in the back private room, which was really nice. Today, the sea was rough and there were no squid, but they had some from yesterday for those who had reservations. We ordered the live squid sashimi (large) for 3480 yen. The squid was alive, moving, translucent, and chewy. It was delicious. We also ordered tempura, which was crispy and delicious. We also had the Genkai set meal for 1760 yen, which included tempura, sashimi, chawanmushi, salad, small dishes, rice, pickles, and miso soup. The sashimi was thick and fresh, and the tempura was crispy with eggplant, pumpkin, sillago, bell pepper, and shrimp. The sashimi set meal for 1760 yen included sashimi, chawanmushi, small dishes, pickles, miso soup, and rice. The sashimi was chewy and delicious. The children also enjoyed the food. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great.

After visiting Munakata Taisha, we stopped by for lunch. It was just past 12 pm on a weekday, but the restaurant was full. After waiting for 2-3 groups, we were able to get in. They take your name and call you when your table is ready, so you can wait in your car. They had a sign outside indicating whether fresh squid was available, and it was on that day. However, due to reservations, they couldn't serve the squid sashimi set meal, but you could order the squid sashimi separately. My companion and I ordered the sashimi set meal, simmered dish set meal, a small serving of squid sashimi, and shiso juice. The shiso juice arrived quickly and was quite sweet but refreshing with a hint of shiso, a nice appetizer. The set meals arrived promptly and were surprisingly generous for the price. The sashimi set had 6 types of fresh and delicious sashimi, and it also came with a mini chawanmushi, which was a nice touch. The simmered dish was particularly large, almost like it was meant for two people. It had a lot of bony parts due to the fish head, but it was still a challenge to finish. The squid was fresh and tasty, still moving slightly. It felt a bit awkward because the eyes were still visible, and my companion apologized to the squid before eating it. You could choose to have the tentacles and other parts of the squid as sashimi, grilled with salt, or tempura. We chose tempura, which was light and fluffy, and very delicious. We were quite full by the end of the meal. The food was very satisfying, but the service felt a bit rushed and impersonal, although it may have been due to how busy they were. Also, one of the servers spoke very quickly, making it hard to understand. Overall, it was a good restaurant with high cost performance.

While sightseeing in Munakata, we decided to drive to have seafood bowls. There were many different types of seafood bowls to choose from, which made it difficult to decide. If you go with a few people, you can share and try different bowls, which I recommend! They were all delicious, and I would love to go back again! 😊

I went out to the eastern area after a long time. It was a late lunch due to a medical appointment. Since this place had high ratings on this site, I was worried about going without a reservation, but as expected, there was a 40-minute wait at the popular restaurant. I received a call on my phone from the restaurant and was able to go to the roadside station during that time, which was helpful. When I entered the restaurant, I was seated at a table with a sunken kotatsu. My partner had decided on the squid set meal (for two people), so I ordered the same. Soon, the meal was brought out, and there was already pudding for dessert on the tray. They would make tempura out of the squid later. The tray had a prawn on it, and it was delicious when I squeezed lemon over it. The prawn might have been tastier than the squid. The squid had a different texture than I had imagined, perhaps there are different types of squid. However, the fresh transparent squid and the tempura that followed were excellent. I used to spend about 2 hours going to Hakata for squid, then wait another 2 hours to eat it, but now I only go to Shiosaki where I can get a reservation and arrive in about 1 hour. The squid sashimi is clear and sweet, and the tempura is chewy and delicious. I always choose tempura! When I took someone from Tokyo there, they were so impressed. 😊

I visited the restaurant for the third time and was pleased to find a 4000 yen course and fresh squid on the menu. In March, they only had a natural tiger pufferfish course for 4000 yen, which was different from the previous natural pufferfish course. However, the natural tiger pufferfish course for 10,000 yen was a great deal. Reservations are a must. The squid and natural tiger pufferfish course were incredibly delicious, and the shirako was also included, making it the best. I saw it on TV and got excited, so I made a reservation with a friend. The natural blowfish course for 4000 yen is a great deal! We looked it up and decided to order the squid blowfish course for two, and then ordered the squid after we arrived. We hesitated between small and large, but decided to go for the large size. When it arrived, the squid was huge, you can't tell from the picture! It was sweet and chewy, very delicious. The blowfish sashimi was also a generous portion for two people. We also had blowfish chawanmushi and blowfish tempura, which were both delicious. The tempura was crispy and light. The squid tentacles and intestines were also deep-fried and had a great texture. The porridge was served as a single portion, and we finished with a pudding dessert. For the price, the quality of the food was unbeatable. We enjoyed beer and sake, and the bill came out to just under 15,000 yen. It was a great value for the quality of the food. The squid alone was 4500 yen before tax, and it was worth it for the size and taste. We will definitely visit again soon.

When driving to Munakata, I always stop by at Wakashio Maru for a meal. There are various shops nearby, but this is my favorite ❤️(ӦvӦ。) I ordered fresh squid (medium size), grilled live shrimp, and the Wakashio Maru set meal. Everything was delicious as always. If you don't make a reservation, you may have to wait for about an hour. Local people usually come in around 1:30 pm when it's less crowded. It's a hidden gem! Nearby, there is Munakata Michi-no-Eki and a beautiful coastline, making it perfect for a drive and lunch ❤️(ӦvӦ。)

This is a Japanese restaurant near the Genkai Golf Club. The highlight this time was the fresh squid sashimi. I ordered a set with a large squid and sushi. The squid sashimi was delicious, but the sushi was just okay. I also tried the grilled squid, but I think tempura would have been better. The restaurant has parking, tatami seating, and a clean, new atmosphere. I recommend this place if you want to try fresh squid sashimi.

The squid was the biggest. Salt-grilled for sashimi. Also had turban shell. The set meal was sashimi with a focus on sea bream, flounder, amberjack, and white fish. Incredibly fresh. Even better than the squid I had in Yobuko. The turban shell had no bitterness in the liver. The rice was excellent. The chawanmushi was packed with ingredients and very satisfying. This place was really delicious...! I will definitely come back.

My favorite place turned out to be quite difficult to get revenge on, but finally the other day, when I had been ordering only individual items on my first visit, the couple next to me advised me to get the Waka Shiozen set meal. They said, "If you want to try the fried flounder with sauce, get the set meal." I really wanted to try it, so this time I ordered the set meal! When I looked at the menu, there was the Waka Choyoshi meal for 2000 yen and the Waka Shiozen meal for 2500 yen. Upon checking the contents, I found that the 500 yen difference was for salt-grilled shrimp and dessert. If the set meal comes with about three fried shrimp, I'll go for the Shiozen meal (laughs). I think the extra is for the dessert, not for the fried shrimp, so I made the right choice (laughs). The grilled shrimp was sold out, so I changed it to fried shrimp, but it was still the right choice. The fried flounder with sauce was really delicious! I think it's not easy to finish it all by yourself. The shrimp was not in season that day. This time, I checked off the fried flounder with sauce, so maybe next time I'll try the sashimi?
