While walking, I happened to come across a sign for "Massan Curry." I tried to visit once, but they were closed, so I made a return visit. The restaurant is an Italian bar called COMATSU, where you can enjoy authentic pizzas. They are only open for lunch on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. During the state of emergency, they are only serving their special Massan Curry, made with a secret blend of spices they have been perfecting for 5 years. The interior of the restaurant is stylish, and despite dining alone, I was seated at a table of my choice towards the back. The curry arrived after a while, made with a broth simmered for half a day using Hakata Karami-dori chicken, and the side dishes were well presented. The lamb keema curry with turmeric rice, topped with penmi-jan and sansho pepper, was unique and delicious. Instead of naan, they serve it with pizza, which is also a characteristic of COMATSU. The staff mentioned that the state of emergency might be extended, so they may continue their lunch service accordingly. It seems like they are indeed extending their lunch service (but it's best to confirm before visiting). Enjoy the Massan Curry while you still can!

I happened to see on TV that Komatsu Daimyo-ten is offering a limited-time Massaman curry, so I went there right away. When I entered a little after 12 o'clock, there were already about 3 customers, all of whom probably saw it on TV too! I sat at the counter and when asked if curry was okay, I said yes. After a while, a different staff member came and asked if I was okay with cilantro, to which I said it's okay. It took about 15 minutes until it was served. The cheese pizza arrived a little late. It's interesting that it's pizza instead of naan, very Komatsu-like. The curry had a watery sauce, mild spiciness. Honestly, I wanted a bit more punch! The chicken wings were so soft that they almost fell apart, maybe a bit too overcooked!? On top of the turmeric rice, there was a lamb keema seasoned with Chinese condiments like sweet bean sauce and bean paste, giving it a strong miso flavor when mixed with the sauce, which was interesting. The pizza had a good cheese flavor, but I wanted more spiciness! There were also about 3 side dishes, and for 1,000 yen including tax, it's not bad, right!?

I was surprised to see that the side dish was actually Komatsu's salted pizza bread. I also ordered a lemon sour, which was a nice touch. Komatsu's menu and glassware are designed by an illustrator named Abe, whom I am secretly a fan of. I've recently been obsessed with bacon. I love pasta, so I always have bacon and sausages in my fridge, but when it comes to sausages, only Schüblig will do. But what about bacon? I've been trying out different kinds. When I start talking about bacon, some people say Japanese bacon isn't really bacon! But I actually like Japanese bacon too. So, I didn't come to Komatsu-san's for the bacon, but I saw it on the menu and decided to try it. It was delicious! A big chunk of bacon, like pork belly, served with a mountain of potatoes. I'm glad I didn't order potatoes on the side! The meaty bacon, with its salty flavor, paired perfectly with beer. And the pâté. I love pâté de campagne, and the pâté here was also incredibly tasty. Komatsu-san, who is only open on weekends, is a great place to visit. The atmosphere at the main store is as good as ever. The illustrations by ABEchan, a Fukuoka-based illustrator, found in the menu are a signature of Komatsu-san establishments and can also be seen on the walls of a certain soft-serve ice cream shop. It's safe to say that these illustrations have become a part of Fukuoka's culture. I even have a sticker myself. Today, I felt like trying a craft beer instead of my usual Premium Malt. The glass it came in was cute and added to the experience. I enjoyed the garlic shrimp and, for a change, decided to have some pizza as well. I went out for drinks with friends for the first time in a while, and this time we visited Komatsu-san. I had previously stopped by and tried the assorted appetizers, which were delicious. We opted for the 3500 yen course with all-you-can-drink. When I mentioned my dislikes during the reservation, they kindly changed the dish for me, which I appreciated. They seemed to have increased the amount of fried potatoes that came with the meat dish (probably because both of us were eating), which was also nice. There were many unique chu-hi drinks to enjoy without getting bored, and the staff were very cheerful and created a comfortable atmosphere. At first, I thought the portions were a bit small... but in the end, I was super full and satisfied. The drinks were also delicious. Another group in the restaurant was noisy, but the staff kindly gave us a complimentary shrimp and mushroom ajillo to apologize for any inconvenience caused. The staff were very considerate and thoughtful, making it a delightful place. It's popular with women and quickly became fully booked. Reservations are recommended. Definitely check it out.
