From the station south area towards Minoshima. This shop always caught my eye, but it seems they only operate at night. I entered after 5 pm, still bright outside. Ordered Hiroshima Kagetsuru and salad. The drink options are written on a fan, maybe they change daily? First, the salad. It comes with an original dressing. Among today's recommendations, I was intrigued by the meat sauce gratin. Excited to see how it turns out on the hot plate. A fragrant meat sauce. Cheese. Sweet, a taste kids would like. Surprisingly, it goes well with sake. Then the okonomiyaki. You can add extra ingredients to the standard one. I added shrimp, squid, and mochi. Mochi makes it delicious, right? We chat about that. The cut pieces. The sound of it being cut, the fluffy vegetables inside. They cook it carefully. You can add extras like shiso to the okonomiyaki. The aroma of shiso is great, tasty. As the sun sets, the place fills up, even on a weekday. It's a popular spot. If you mix the egg well, it tastes even better.

This teppanyaki izakaya is located about 1,042m from Hakata Station, a 15-minute walk from there in the Hakata Station South area. The interior of the restaurant has counters and sunken kotatsu seats, and it was quite crowded. There seemed to be many regular customers, and the atmosphere was good, with the energetic staff members being pleasant. The food overall was delicious, but I wished the harami steak was a bit more tender. However, the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, in particular, was voluminous and satisfying, with the cabbage and batter complementing each other well and being very tasty. I was able to enjoy it even though I was already full.

First, I was curious about the baked potato salad, so I ordered it. The potato salad had a crispy cheese coating on top, which was cut with a spatula before eating. The crunchy texture of the cheese and the potato salad matched well and tasted delicious. The pork bean sprouts were seasoned mainly with ponzu, so they were light. I also ordered the "Shi" okonomiyaki, which was just as delicious as the ones I had in Hiroshima. Other interesting items included the tornado sausage and the Kyoho grape beer. The tornado sausage paired well with beer, and the Kyoho grape beer was made by mixing dark grape juice with draft beer, making it sweeter and easy to drink, especially for women. The restaurant had counter seats and table seats, creating a casual atmosphere where even solo diners could feel comfortable.

Visited on April 29, 2019. This time, I visited the restaurant "Imao Yaki Station Minami Store" located about a 15-minute walk from Hakata Station Chikushi Exit! I originally work in Fukuoka, Kyushu, but this time I went drinking near the house I rent as a company dormitory! I visited with two subordinates from the company, a total of three people. We arrived around 9:30 pm. The seating options included counter seats where you could see the grilling scene, sunken kotatsu seats, and regular table seats. We were seated by the window in the sunken kotatsu area this time! The atmosphere inside the restaurant had a sense of populism, and the energetic and friendly service of the staff left a good impression. The menu featured daily recommendations written on a blackboard, and the drink menu was written on a fan-shaped menu! I was surprised by the drink menu, thinking, "Is this all written here!?" (laughs) The recommended dish was the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki grilled on an iron plate, and the menu was quite extensive! The dish that left a lasting impression on me this time was the "Ebi Mayo" (shrimp with mayonnaise). I thought it was fried, but it was actually boiled or steamed, making it easy to eat! Also, the Hiroshima vegetables were quite refreshing, so it's a dish you might end up ordering 2-3 times if you're drinking for a long time! (laughs) It seemed quite suitable for company drinking parties or going out with friends! There are apparently two other affiliated stores in Fukuoka Prefecture, so I would like to try another store next time!

"One word: Amazing! The deliciousness of the okonomiyaki goes without saying, and the side menu items all pair perfectly with alcohol, making it ideal for someone like me who enjoys whiskey and shochu! The chef's personality is also fantastic, and sitting at the counter allows for a fun dining experience even when alone. When you crave Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, this is the place to go, no doubt! LOL"

"Konjo Yaki" is a slightly scary-sounding restaurant located at the Miyajima intersection south of Hakata Station. It seems to be a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant, with clean iron plates and a refreshing summer limited lunch menu. They offer Hiroshima tsukemen, which is cold noodles with dipping sauce. The default level of spiciness is just right, but you can also adjust it with extra spicy miso. The thin noodles mix well with the sauce. Additionally, they offer Tamago Kake Gohan (TKG) for 150 yen, with the egg already mixed in. It was delicious and refreshing, providing both energy and stamina. I feel a bit more lively now.

Saturday has arrived, which means it's time for another night of drinking and exploring with my drinking buddy, H. This time, we decided to visit "Imaiki" for some food and drinks. The restaurant has a glass exterior, so you can see inside from the outside. Upon entering, we were asked if we had a reservation. I replied that we did not, and they offered us a seat at the counter, but I insisted on a table. Eventually, we were seated at a small raised table for six. We started with some chu-hai for a toast, and ordered some appetizers like squid tempura and a limited 5-piece pork skewer. We also ordered the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with pork, egg, squid tempura, and green onions, opting for soba noodles. The okonomiyaki was cooked with a lid on, creating a fluffy texture. The soba noodles were thin and delicious. The dish was topped with a generous amount of green onions, which I happily took on since H isn't a fan. The sauce used was Carp sauce, a rarity in Fukuoka. The pork skewers were large and fatty, providing a satisfying meal. As we were finishing up, we were asked to move to the counter to make room for a group of seven, so we decided to call it a night. We left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

This is a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant. The atmosphere is a bit like a sports club, and they have a wide variety of teppanyaki dishes in addition to okonomiyaki, so I go there occasionally. The drink menu is written on a fan and it's a bit hard to read. The menu names are unique and make for good conversation starters. When the okonomiyaki first arrives, it looks like a hamburger because it's so thick, but it's packed with delicious vegetable flavors. This time, we had two okonomiyaki for four people, as well as about five different teppanyaki dishes. It would be nice if the teppanyaki dishes had a bit more volume. Thank you for the meal!

Fukuoka has quite a few Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurants. This particular restaurant is run by someone who trained in Hiroshima and this is their second location. They have a coin parking lot across the street for customers. The restaurant is quite popular even on weekdays, but they have many days off as well. I called ahead and was told that I could sit at the end of the counter if I didn't mind, so I chose that option. If you have a larger group or want a table, it's best to make a reservation in advance. We ordered the "Omoiyari" (pork, egg, rice cake, and plenty of cheese) for 920 yen and the "Enno Michi" (pork, egg, squid tempura, green onions) for 830 yen. The prices are listed as "flames" instead of yen, which is interesting. The drink menu is written on a fan, which is a bit hard to read but adds a fun touch. There is also a blackboard with daily specials. Aside from okonomiyaki, they also have a variety of teppanyaki dishes. One menu item that caught our attention was "Unslippery Story - One Hundred Million Yen." If anyone tries it, please let us know your thoughts (laughs). As for the okonomiyaki, the one with plenty of cheese was overwhelmingly rich. It must be quite high in calories. My partner preferred the more traditional "Enno Michi" as the best. Maybe the basic flavors are the most delicious when it comes to okonomiyaki!

When I passed by in my car and saw a restaurant with full glass windows and lots of customers inside, I was curious and decided to visit. I tried the special flavor kimchi for ¥300, which was delicious with a hint of sesame oil and crunchy dried shrimp. The shrimp mayo for ¥680 was also great, with plump shrimp and a mayo dip with lots of chopped onions. The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki for ¥920, called "Omoiyari," had pork, egg, mochi, and cheese, and was fluffy and refreshing with a sweet taste from the Hiroshima Carp sauce, fresh cabbage, and chewy noodles. The yuzu seseri for ¥480 had tender seseri meat with fragrant shiso leaves. The "Three Sacred Treasures of Chicken Thigh" for ¥500 with grated daikon ponzu sauce was excellent, with a refreshing taste from the ponzu sauce. The combination of cabbage, green onions, chicken thigh, and grated daikon ponzu sauce was delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient, chatting with customers while skillfully preparing dishes quickly. I sat at the counter, where I could watch the dishes being cooked on the hotplate right in front of me, allowing me to enjoy them piping hot. The prices were reasonable overall, yet the quality of ingredients and careful preparation made the dining experience enjoyable.

I was thinking of going somewhere else, but I found this place nearby so I decided to go. The restaurant has about four tatami rooms, a counter, and a couple of tables. It is easily visible from the main street, so it has a slightly embarrassing feel to it. It seems to specialize in okonomiyaki, but with a strong izakaya vibe. The staff seems a bit too many for the size of the place. The food is reasonably priced and on the cheaper side. The menu seems to be quite extensive. This time, I tried some izakaya dishes, so next time I will try the okonomiyaki.

On this visit, I will be eating Hiroshima's soul food, okonomiyaki. When Hiroshima locals talk about okonomiyaki, everyone has their own preferences, so it may not be very helpful. First impressions: Although they open at 11:30, they were cleaning and the staff was brushing their teeth in the backyard, showing a poor attitude towards work. Regarding the main topic of okonomiyaki, the way they cook it here is not wrong, but there are two differences from Hiroshima style: 1. The soba noodles are raw but as thin as Nagahama ramen, which is different from the authentic version = resulting in a different taste and texture. 2. The bean sprouts are the thick Kyushu-style ones = different texture. A positive point is that the cabbage is hand-cut = not too thin or thick, affecting the sweetness when cooked. Cost-wise, the standard okonomiyaki with soba noodles, meat, egg, and squid tempura costs 980 yen. Areas for improvement include using cheap seaweed, which lacks flavor, and the staff's attitude towards work (I will refrain from further details due to a correction request from the website operator). In conclusion, I will not be revisiting this place!

The other day, I found Imosei Station South Store on my way to Nakka Commercial Mall. It is located on Hyakunenhashi Street near Takayama Shiten. It seemed newly opened and caught my interest, so I decided to stop by on my way back. It was a Sunday during mealtime, so it was a bit crowded and I had to wait for about 20 minutes, but the staff's service was good. The drink menu was cute with a fan design! They serve a rare "Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki" around here, and it was really delicious! I think the cost performance is also good. Another dish I tried was an Italian-style okonomiyaki with a tomato and cheese base. The salad and shrimp chili were also tasty! The portions are quite generous, so be careful not to order too much. I visited this restaurant for the third time with a friend. We ordered one okonomiyaki (classic with udon noodles), baked potato salad, and a half-size of the 12-variety salad. The okonomiyaki had plenty of green onions on top and a fluffy texture with chewy udon noodles inside, which was very delicious. It was satisfying for two girls to share one piece. The baked potato salad had cheese on top, making it a hearty dish. Although we ordered the half-size of the 12-variety salad, it was enough for two people. The salad was filled with various vegetables and was very tasty. However, there was a large daily special signboard placed at the edge of our table, which fell down and caused an awkward moment with the neighboring customers. It would be better to avoid placing such large signboards on tables where customers are seated. Additionally, sitting by the window in the tatami area made us feel very cold, as the heating was not turned on until the neighboring customers complained about the cold. There were no blankets available, so we had to use our coats as lap blankets. It would be nice if they could provide blankets or take other measures to keep customers warm. Despite these issues, the food was delicious and highly recommended! I will visit again when it gets a bit warmer.

In my opinion, the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki was the most delicious. The way it was cooked was so interesting that I wanted to upload a video of it on a video-sharing site. I wonder if they cook it like that in Hiroshima? The thick-cut bacon steak, which I ordered as a side dish, turned out to be a dish with a substantial volume. With a counter seating available, it's a place where you can feel comfortable dining alone. I rated it modestly because it's a place where you can casually enjoy a meal. It would be great if they also offered lunch service.

I felt like eating Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, so I looked it up online and found a place with good reviews. When I arrived around 7pm, there were a couple of lively groups of regular customers, and the place was about 90% full. I sat at the counter with a teppan (iron griddle) and ordered the Hiroshima okonomiyaki. The guy who seemed like the leader (owner?) cooked it for me. However, the teppan in front of me didn't have any heat, and condiment bottles were left on it. I thought to myself, "Could it be...?" After a while, he said, "Sorry for the wait," and placed the freshly cooked okonomiyaki on the cold teppan as if it was normal. What happens when you put a hot okonomiyaki on a cold teppan? And having the condiment bottles right next to it... The taste was just okay, I think.

Since they are open on Sundays, it's convenient to get takeout when you want to relax at home on holidays. My daughter loved the sauce, but there was so much of it that it felt like she was eating soup rather than sauce (lol). I'm sure on the teppan grill, it evaporates to just the right amount. I really enjoyed the side dishes "Kakatte Koi Yamaimo Yaki" and "Torimomo Oroshi Ponzu," so I want to eat them again. The yamaimo had a nice thickness and crunch, with a delicious aroma of soy sauce. The torimomo was light and satisfying, filling me up without being too heavy.
