I visited "Chicken Cuisine pao" during my work lunch break. The restaurant is located on the north side of the railway tracks at JR Fukushima Station on the Osaka Loop Line, within the "Seiten Street Shopping District". Based on what I saw on Tabelog, it seems like the restaurant originally operated at night. Lately, I have been exploring lunch options in the area, and I had my eye on this place. I ordered the "Chicken Nanban Fry Set". It seems to be a signature dish of the restaurant, and it lived up to its reputation.
Food & Taste: 3.6
The "Chicken Nanban Fry Set" is essentially chicken nanban, but in this case, it is chicken cutlet. The chicken is thick and juicy, coated in batter and deep-fried. The meat was tender with a nice texture. The tartar sauce was a liquid type with plenty of pickles, onions, and egg whites. It paired very well with the white rice and I didn't get tired of it until the end. The potato salad on the side was also quite good, with a soft texture. It was seasoned with garlic fry powder and a bit of spicy powder. The vegetables were also substantial, making it a healthy option. The rice was cooked firm, suitable for a set meal. I refrained from getting seconds as I had work ahead, but I felt like I could eat it endlessly.
Service: 3.3
The lunch service was run by a young male owner who provided gentlemanly and polite service. He even opened the door and saw me off as I left. One free refill of white rice was offered.
Atmosphere: 3.3
The interior of the restaurant resembles a bar, with rows of liquor bottles near the ceiling. There are counter seats near the entrance and tables further back in the hallway. The background music was slow jazz, enhancing the bar-like ambiance. There were no other customers during my visit, but I recall seeing a good number of patrons in the past.
Cost Performance: 3.1
The "Chicken Nanban Fry Set" was priced at 900 yen, slightly higher than the average lunch price in Fukushima, Osaka. However, considering the high quality, it felt reasonable if not slightly cheap.
Drink: Not available
In the past, the chicken nanban dishes I've had were all about cost performance, but this experience showed me that with careful preparation, it can be as delicious as other meat dishes.
