Kurukuru no Tori is a delicious restaurant known for its crispy chicken skin. I first visited in 2018, when it was still relatively new and not yet very popular. However, it has now become quite popular, especially among young people. Last year, I couldn't get a table because it was fully booked when I called on the same day. This time, I made a same-day reservation for the opening time at 5 pm, and we were able to get a table easily. By the time we finished our meal around 7 pm, the restaurant was fully packed. The restaurant is called "Tenjin Branch," but it is quite a walk from both Tenjin Station and Kyogoku Station. With the guidance of a local friend from Fukuoka, we visited from Tenjin Station. The atmosphere was still quiet when we arrived, so we started with a toast with beer. We ordered four pieces of crispy chicken skin per person, which was our main target. The potato salad was also unique and interesting, with two types available, so we chose the one with salted cod roe. The grilled dishes were all quite generous in portion size. We also ordered zucchini and onion as vegetables. Following our friend's recommendation, we tried the Unzen ham skewers, which had a slightly sweet flavor. I learned that Unzen is in Nagasaki, which made sense. We also tried the Namatsukune, which had a hint of shiso and a good texture and flavor. It was also quite filling, and the saltiness paired well with it. Lastly, we had grilled rice balls with butter, which had a nice crispy texture from the butter by the time we started eating. They were a perfect ending to the meal. After filling our stomachs, we asked for the bill and were served white water soup. The texture was less sticky than before, with an increased saltiness, which I personally preferred. We drank about 4-5 beers, highballs, sake, and more each, and before we knew it, over 3 hours had passed since we entered. We enjoyed the crispy chicken skin, and even had seconds. At around 5,000 yen per person, it may seem expensive or reasonable depending on your perspective, but considering the quality and quantity of food we enjoyed, it felt like a fair price. The fact that one piece of crispy chicken skin is only 140 yen is also a great deal. It was a fun night, and I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the delicious meal.
