When it gets cold, I crave warm udon noodles. I had previously been defeated by the long line at this place, but this time I was lucky and got in easily. Sanuki Udon Shikoku-ya Honten is located in the basement of the Dojima Plaza Building, next to Hotel Elserran, just south of Dojima Avanza. The exterior and interior are both stylish and bright with a wooden theme, making it easy for individuals or groups to enter. The lunch menu includes curry udon, hot udon, cold udon, set meals (with rice, raw egg, seasoned seaweed, pickles), rice balls, and inari sushi bowls. I ordered the basic curry udon for 830 yen. From the moment I entered the restaurant, the delicious smell of curry udon filled the air. The curry with a rich broth was delicious. It contained Kujo green onions, onions, and beef. The hand-made udon noodles were soft and chewy, and quite long, making it a bit difficult to transfer to the plate, but worth it to let it cool a bit before eating. I sprinkled some shichimi pepper for extra flavor. They also offer all-you-can-drink options with dishes like shabu-shabu and udon hot pot at reasonable prices. I look forward to trying it out at night next time. Thank you for the meal.

During lunchtime when it's hot, I always prefer to have something light and refreshing. That's why I tend to go for udon or soba noodles a lot. I like to order something cold and filling to keep my energy up. This time, I went to Shikokuya, which has a decent portion size and plenty of seating. I ordered the tempura chicken with grated daikon udon. The tangy citrus flavor of the vinegar adds a nice touch to the dish, making the grated daikon udon even more enjoyable. It was consistently delicious as always. Thank you for the meal.

Actually, it was my first visit since the relocation. I arrived around 11:30 a.m. and the restaurant was not crowded. There was only one customer before me. Because of that, I noticed the staff talking to each other quite a bit. I used to always eat curry udon before, but today I decided to try the katsudon set. You can choose from three types of udon: regular, cold, or with grated radish. I was curious about what "regular" udon was, but it turned out to be as shown in the picture. The udon had a delicious broth and was quite good, but the katsu in the katsudon was thin and just average in a negative way. I guess this place is really known for their curry udon. I'll go back to that next time. Thank you for the meal.

I visited "Shikokuya," a udon restaurant located on the basement floor of Dojima Plaza Building, a 3-minute walk from Kitashinchi Station, around 11 am on a certain day in April 2023. The clean and moderately spacious interior was about 30% full of customers. I sat at the counter seat for one person, glanced at the menu for a while, and then ordered the "Pork and Bean Sprout Curry Udon" for ¥910 plus the "Set Meal" for ¥250. The dishes were served after about 10 minutes. The curry udon, which is the recommended menu of this restaurant, was served in a good-sized bowl with rice, raw egg, pickles, and seasoned seaweed. I tried the curry udon first. It contained pork belly, bean sprouts, and green onions as toppings. The slightly spicy broth had a rich and savory taste. The taste was the result of seeking both ease of eating and professional flavor. The combination of thick and chewy udon noodles with curry-flavored broth was excellent, making it very satisfying. The combination of rice and curry udon was also very good. I tried mixing the raw egg into the rice to make it like tamago kake gohan, and it was delicious when combined with the curry broth. Sprinkling shichimi pepper on the curry udon added a kick and flavor. Eating the seasoned seaweed with rice brought out the Osaka-like flavor. I enjoyed the good combination of tamago kake gohan and seasoned seaweed, while nibbling on the pickles. After finishing the noodles and toppings, I savored the curry udon broth while eating the rice. I was able to enjoy a very satisfying curry udon set meal at "Shikokuya," where you can eat carefully crafted curry udon. The price is somewhat high, but the variety of curry udon options and other udon menu items make it a place where you can enjoy a variety of dishes.

I went to Sanuki Udon Shikoku-ya in Kitashinchi. It was recommended by the president of the company I work for, so I was looking forward to eating there. I ordered the Warm Egg and Grated Meat Udon because I was in the mood for smooth and cold udon. The noodles were chewy and had a smooth texture, which was very satisfying. The combination of warm egg, sweet and savory meat, grated daikon radish, and green onions was incredibly delicious. The restaurant was quiet, clean, and a great place to eat slowly. I saw that their specialty was Curry Udon, so I plan to try that next time.

This is a long-established restaurant known for its curry udon, with over 40 years of history. The original location has moved, and the interior of the new location is clean. It gets very crowded during lunchtime, with many business people from Kita-Shinchi and Umeda. This time, I ordered the minced meat curry udon. It's not very spicy, but it has plenty of green onions and fried tofu, which is nice. I couldn't try it this time due to dietary restrictions, but I want to try the cutlet curry or shrimp fry curry next time.

The set meal for ¥200 includes rice, seasoned seaweed, raw egg, and pickles, which is quite reasonable. You can choose your favorite udon to go with the set, which is great❤️ The most popular item seems to be the combination of a bowl and udon for lunch. The texture of the hot udon is quite firm and bouncy. It's delicious with a light broth that is refreshing. The flavor of sansho pepper and shichimi is delightful. The udon noodles are quite long, making it a bit challenging to eat. Is there a way to make them easier to eat by adjusting the length? The raw egg is perfect for making tamago kake gohan (egg over rice). On September 23, 2022, around 1:10 PM, I had a tempura bowl with mini udon. It was amazing, really amazing! The tempura was freshly fried, the shrimp was huge! The shiitake mushrooms were the best! I had a katsudon and a mini udon. For the mini udon, I chose the "high collar" style. When I heard "Sanuki udon," I imagined thick and chewy noodles, but as someone who grew up eating soft udon from Kyushu, these noodles had just the right amount of chewiness. The katsudon had a broth that was not too sweet or too strong. It had the classic look of a katsudon.

Sakurabashi Nishi intersection. I used to walk through the underground of the new Sankei Building often, but when the building was demolished and rebuilt along with the Sankei Building Annex, I didn't know if the restaurant had moved or closed down. I was surprised to find out that it had moved to the basement of the Elseran Hotel, and it had become a very beautiful and stylish restaurant. It's not exactly traditional Sanuki style, more like a modern Kansai style. The noodles are not as firm as Sanuki udon, but it's not the soggy udon of old Osaka. At least, it's not like the modern udon shops that have appeared since the existence of Men-Tsun-Dan. The oyakodon and katsudon made with dashi are delicious, and the curry udon is also very tasty. Some may say it's ridiculous, but in Kitashinchi, where there are 3000 restaurants, this is the best place to have curry udon for lunch. There are famous places like Kagawa-san at night, but whether it's delicious when sober is a different story. It's not comparable between a drinking meal and lunch, so if it's lunchtime, I think there's no place better than here. In conclusion, the curry udon with dashi, curry, udon, and freshly fried tonkatsu is still the best here.

Yes. Another lonely lunch around 2 pm today. Just missed it! There are quite a few places open until 2 pm, but it's already past 5 minutes so I guess it's no use haha. I've tried this at various restaurants many times, but I've never been successful. Today, I tried the udon dish at Hai Kara. I had the Katsu Curry and Tempura Set (Hai Kara version). You can choose between regular udon, cold udon, or grated radish udon. This time, I chose the regular udon. It also comes with white rice, so I ate heartily. There was a little curry left, so I poured the udon into it to make curry udon. The Sanuki udon was chewy and delicious. The broth was tasty, but a bit too strong for my liking. It's about a 12-minute walk from JR Osaka Station. This udon restaurant is located in the basement of the Dojima Plaza Building. I visited during lunchtime on April 27, 2021. It was slightly past 12 o'clock, and the restaurant was about 80% full. The interior is quite spacious, so thankfully there was no long line. They seem to recommend curry udon, so I ordered the "Beef Tendon Curry Udon" for 890 yen. When the udon arrived, the bowl was huge! It was quite satisfying to eat. The Sanuki udon noodles had a good firmness, but they were a bit difficult to eat as they tended to stick together. The curry broth had just the right amount of spiciness, making me break a little sweat, and it was delicious. The toppings like beef slices and green onions were well-balanced. I'd like to go back and eat there again. Thank you for the meal.

This is a delicious curry udon restaurant. This is my second visit. I came here when I had just moved due to a job transfer. The beef tendon curry udon (890 yen) is so good here. The curry broth is delicious and the beef tendon is tender and goes well with the curry. In Kita-Shinchi, curry udon from Kagawa and Shikoku-ya are famous.
