On this day, my wife, third son, and I visited my hometown of Furano from Asahikawa to pay respects at the family grave. For breakfast, we chose to stop by a place called Chamisen along the way, which is a shop specializing in onigiri made with Tokachi rice. The shop was quite popular, with a constant stream of customers coming in and forming a line outside due to the limited space inside. The parking lot was also full, with one car waiting for a spot.
We purchased onigiri with Tokachi rice and grilled leek miso for myself and my wife (220 yen each), while our son, who doesn't like brown rice, chose the curry flavor with white rice (240 yen). We enjoyed the onigiri in the car on our way to Furano. The taste was good, but our son was disappointed that the onigiri had cooled down and lost its crispy seaweed and freshly made texture he was hoping for. The price was not particularly cheap, and the portion was decent, so we felt that freshly made onigiri would have been better.
However, the female owner of the shop was very kind and provided attentive service, and we could tell that they were particular about the ingredients used. The shop itself was stylish and blended in well with the peaceful town of Higashikawa, harmonizing with nature. It was a moment that made us realize once again that Higashikawa has many such shops, making it a popular area for both residents and tourists alike.

Located in a peaceful area beyond Michi no Eki Higashikawa's "Michikusa-kan," this onigiri shop offers a variety of rice balls, with brown rice onigiri being the popular choice. They open at 7:30 in the morning, and I visited around 10 o'clock. Despite some items being sold out, there were still plenty of options available. I ended up purchasing three items. The "Brown Rice with Kombu and Edamame" (200 yen) had a satisfying chewy texture, with a great balance of flavors from the kombu saltiness and edamame sweetness. The "Brown Rice with Nuka-Nishin" (230 yen) seemed to be a crowd favorite, with only two left when I bought it. It's made with additive-free nuka-nishin, which is flaked and generously stuffed inside. The slight saltiness of the nuka-nishin was just right and very delicious. While mostly offering brown rice onigiri, they also have a few options with white rice. On that day, they had two types of white rice onigiri available. The "White Rice with Black Rice and Kuromame" (200 yen) had a slightly pink color and a chewy texture, likely from the black rice mixed in. The kuromame added a comforting touch to the onigiri, making it a perfect filling. The staff at the shop were very friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. It was a busy day with continuous customer visits, which is understandable considering the shop's popularity!

I also bought onigiri with chicken karaage. Eating meat and then onigiri, repeating it alternately is happiness♪ ・Edamame and Kombu The perfectly balanced saltiness of the kombu is great, but the presence of edamame is what stands out. It creates a wonderful harmony with the deliciously cooked brown rice onigiri. ・Wasabi Cheese The cheese and wasabi here have a strong flavor, but even a slowly filling stomach can handle it (laughs). The lunch with onigiri and karaage was satisfying enough. It was delicious^^

"I am always drawn to the idea of 'Brown Rice Onigiri.' As a Japanese person, I often feel the urge to eat rice, and this time I wanted to try it for sure. The atmosphere of the small shop with a handwritten menu and a note saying 'Please eat it soon' added a warm touch to the experience. I ordered half-cooked egg, wasabi cheese, tuna with wasabi, and pickled herring. The rice was so fluffy and delicious! I wonder if they have a special way of cooking it. Because it's brown rice, it has a nice chewiness, and you can taste the subtle sweetness unique to rice. The fillings were perfectly balanced in terms of flavor and quantity with the rice. The taste was unique and satisfying, something you don't easily find elsewhere. However, the wasabi was so fresh that it made my eyes water uncontrollably, so be careful. The price was a bit high, but the quality matched it. I would definitely want to eat it regularly. I heard they also sell it in the city, so next time, I might use their delivery service instead of going all the way to Higashikawa."

The semi-main attraction of this trip was climbing Mt. Asahidake, so Yomesan prepared suitable attire for the occasion. I went to Montbell but the prices were not as high as I thought, so I decided to wait until I knew more about the fun before making a purchase. Well, the outfit is pretty lame. I couldn't go with shorts and cropped pants, but I climbed Mt. Asahidake. It wasn't all the way to the top, just a one-hour walk after taking the ropeway. The weather was good, so I enjoyed some beautiful views. On the way back, I planned to have ramen for lunch, but the place was closed for the day. Then I found a place called "Brown Rice Onigiri Chamise," which I had visited before but it was closed even though it wasn't a regular holiday. I tried again later but they were sold out. Today was just not my day. There were two groups leaving as I arrived, and two groups waiting. It's a popular place. I ordered the "Half-Boiled Egg" and "Black Bean Onigiri." I was also interested in the mountain wasabi, but when I tried to bring it to the register, I was scolded. "You still have onigiri from yesterday," they said. I replied, "But yesterday's onigiri wasn't good." "Then why did you buy it?" they asked. "To write about it," I said. The nice lady laughed and said, "Shut up, old man." The onigiri had a nice texture because of the brown rice, and the half-boiled egg was delicious. The black bean onigiri had a nice aroma and a subtle saltiness, relying on the quality of the ingredients. Before I started using Eatery, I didn't eat onigiri, but now I love it. It was so delicious.

While I was driving, I happened to see a flag advertising "brown rice onigiri" and decided to stop by out of curiosity. The shop was new and clean! I went around 1 pm and there was only one onigiri left, so the staff came out to let me know. I decided to buy the last one, which was a meat miso onigiri for 200 yen. They apologized for selling out and even gave me a small onigiri as a bonus. I ate it in the car and it was delicious with a gentle flavor. I would love to visit again. The entrance to the parking lot was a bit narrow, so next time I want to come in a more maneuverable vehicle.

This is a review of a restaurant in Higashikawa Town. After being shocked by the disappointing dinner and breakfast at a hot spring in Tenninkyo, I stopped by this restaurant to lift my spirits. Upon entering, the smell of cooking brown rice fills the air, making me excited. The shelves are lined with many brown rice onigiri in baskets, most of them handmade. The most intriguing one was the black bean and black rice onigiri, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a white rice onigiri. I found an onigiri with filling spilling out, made with chicken breast marinated in koji, fried in rice flour, and turned into a salt-based onigiri. It looked cute with the filling spilling out, so I chose that one. My friends each bought onigiri with Nanban miso and wasabi cream cheese. We ate them in the car and they were delicious, with tender chicken breast and a salt-flavored brown rice. The brown rice here is the same Yumepirika brown rice that I have at home, so I didn't feel any discomfort eating it. My friends also enjoyed the deliciousness of the brown rice, so even those who are not fond of brown rice might enjoy it. The store also sells other items like quinoa and amaranth, which I wish were available nearby. I bought some noodles with 70% resistant starch content, which I will review later. Although it's far, I would definitely consider revisiting this place.

It has become my favorite dish (๑´ڡ`๑) I often have it for breakfast. "Nukazushi" can also be a great snack (lol). I couldn't buy the "Salmon Oshizushi" last time, but I will definitely buy it today! Oh no, it was sold out again (ToT). A friend bought it before and said it was delicious, so I was curious about it (^ .^; There is also a "Gomoku Oshizushi" available... (ㆁωㆁ*) Next time for sure... The first time I went to "Chamise" was last spring, I think. It was a little drive to the Higashikawa area for a date (lol). I only knew about the onigiri sold at the Michi no Eki. Inside the store, there were many different types of onigiri, so much fun! The empty baskets had a sign saying, "We will make what's not available right away." Just like Kitadora-san said, the staff at the store were really nice (*^^*) As mentioned, I also have some in my freezer for later ♬

I am not eating at the restaurant, but buying food from different stores on different days and eating it on the spot. The main theme is onigiri made with brown rice. I love brown rice, so when I saw it being sold at the Michikawa Michi no Eki, I decided to try one before heading to eat taiyaki. Oh my, this is really delicious. The brown rice is naturally tasty, but the perfect harmony of edamame and kombu is outstanding. It's not just about satisfying your hunger. On another day, just eating soba wasn't enough to settle my stomach (lol). What caught my eye was nuka-nishin. I didn't know they had that kind of thing! (Goro~♪) I felt a special happiness when I ate it in the free area of the department store basement. It gives me the energy I need for work in the afternoon. Higashikawa is really a great town, goodbye! ^^

5-star Bacon and Bonito Flakes Rice Ball for 180 yen. A delicious rice ball shop with brown rice. I wasn't planning on going all the way to Higashikawa this time, but guess what! They were selling it at Feel! Let's compare it with Nigatetei. Bacon and bonito flakes rice ball. Ever since I tried the bacon and bonito flakes rice ball at Sekoma, I've been hooked. I want to thank the person who came up with this amazing combination. And with the added bonus of chewy brown rice, it's super delicious. The brown rice here is easy to eat with no strong taste. Even those who aren't used to brown rice can enjoy it. Thank you for the meal.

Oh, yes! It was here. It was on the way to Tenninkyo Gorge. Anyway, I want to soak in the hot springs and drink a draft beer while it's still bright out, and maybe we can eat a ton of delicious food at the buffet. Let's just pass by this place today. And then, the next day. We checked out of Tenninkaku and headed straight there. After much deliberation with my partner, we chose nukamiso herring with mountain wasabi, negi miso, and cheese bacon. Brown rice is important because you have to chew it well. When you chew well, you suddenly feel full along with the sweetness. Brown rice is not only nutritious, but it also doesn't burden your body. Oh, I should have bought a lot and frozen it. Then I could have enjoyed ochazuke too. But I was too eager to eat and finished it right away (laughs) ♫

My wife said she wanted to eat onigiri. She saw in a magazine that there is a shop in Higashikawa where you can eat while looking at the mountains, so she wanted to go there. Oh, it must be the shop that moved next to the udon restaurant in Higashikawa, towards the mountains. Let's head there right away. It's a cute building. The interior of the shop is not very spacious, but it seems to have an eat-in space in the back. However, you can't eat inside the shop... My wife was very disappointed that they no longer serve onigiri lunches. Let's just buy some onigiri and take them home. We had the rice ball with pickled herring and soy sauce with wasabi in the car, and it was delicious. But it cost over 200 yen per piece. Is this cheap or expensive... We shouldn't compare it to convenience store onigiri, right.

2016/7 ★ Cheese okaka 220 yen ★ Bacon okaka 180 yen ★ Fresh salmon 180 yen
I went on a food tour drive towards Asahikawa. It was my first time in Higashikawa, and it's a beautiful city! One of the places I was interested in, which I saw in a magazine, was one of the goals of this trip. I love brown rice! I love onigiri o(^o^)o You can tell even without eating. It suits my taste (^_^) The chewy texture of brown rice is great! The ingredients are light and seem good for the body. I bought too much, so I couldn't finish it all, and I froze the rest. Even after thawing, it was still delicious (^^)d Thank you for the meal (^ω^)

I visited "Chamise" for the first time since they moved their onigiri shop. The new location is a bit further from Asahikawa, closer to Asahidake. The view on a sunny day is amazing. There was only a short line when I went during lunchtime. They said they would make more if they ran out, but I knew they were all delicious, so I chose two that were available and paid. The seating area inside the shop seems to have been turned into a takeout-only space. I parked at Michi-no-Eki Tokachi "Michikusa-kan" and bought tea from the vending machine inside for lunch. Brown rice is a bit firmer than regular white rice, so you have to chew it well. I usually eat quickly without chewing much, so I made a conscious effort to chew more when eating brown rice. It's not just delicious, but also good for your body. The edamame and kelp onigiri was especially delicious. The sweetness of the edamame, the umami of the kelp, and the deliciousness of the brown rice were a perfect match! I'll have to try making it at home sometime.
