At the end of my trip to Kushiro, I decided to stop by a restaurant that offers a hot spring meal set before heading home. I was feeling hungry, so I chose from the 6 rice options available in the set menu. I ended up selecting the sweet and sour pork over rice and the tempura rice bowl. The sweet and sour pork over rice was surprisingly authentic and delicious. The tempura was crispy and flavorful, with a sweet and salty taste.

Inside the store: A dining room inside Yamahana Onsen Refre. It is spacious and clean, with a comfortable atmosphere. The tables seem to be made of good quality wood.
Service: There were two male staff members and one female staff member in charge of the hall. They provided quiet and polite service. There were no particular issues.
- Draft beer (Sapporo Black Label) ¥770 x 3 glasses
- Edamame ¥220
- Sashimi and Tempura set ¥900
- Sausage (assorted two types) ¥650
Everything was delicious above average! Even though it's not an izakaya, the tempura and sashimi were quite good.
Overall: After spending about 1.5 hours using the hot springs and sauna at Refre, enjoying a beer. It was a blissful time. The appetizers were all delicious, and I would definitely like to visit again.

Emergency declaration has ended, so the regular business hours have resumed. I went to a day trip hot spring for the first time in a while! I used the Kushiro City support voucher to purchase the usual hot spring and meal set ticket for 1,200 yen. Unfortunately, it wasn't double points on Mondays. I had the chicken rice bowl with finely sliced chicken in a thick sauce. I forgot to take a picture, but I also recommend the "plenty of cabbage and seaweed sesame salad" for 300 yen as a single item.

Under the state of emergency, the business hours have been shortened, and day trip bathing is until 8:00 PM. I arrived an hour earlier than usual and today my stamp card was filled, so bathing was free! I could order any item from the menu, and finally had the pork cutlet set meal I've been wanting. It cost 1,300 yen. The three-color soba was 850 yen. To make up for the lack of vegetables, I also ordered a generous portion of cabbage and sesame seaweed salad for 300 yen. It was a delicious meal. *JAF members get a 5% discount.

Visit date: August 14, 2019
For dinner on this day, I visited Hanashinobu-san with a companion. The restaurant is located within the Yamahana Refre. We arrived around 18:10 and found the restaurant full with a waiting list. There was no specific place to write down our names, so we had to wait until a staff member called us. Finally, at 18:47, we were seated. Although the restaurant was full, there were available seats reserved for hotel guests.
We ordered:
- Yudemi Set (1000 yen, with one serving as a large portion for an additional 130 yen)
It took about 25 minutes for the food to be served. The Yudemi Set included tempura (shrimp, white fish, bell pepper, eggplant), rice, matcha soba, miso soup, and pickles. The tempura was crispy but not overly so. The rice was cooked firm, and the sauce was on the lighter side, but the addition of tempura flakes made it more flavorful towards the end. The green soba had a tea aroma and a slightly slippery texture, with decent firmness. The dipping sauce had a subtle bonito flavor. The miso soup was flavorful with a good amount of dried fish stock.
Initially, the service seemed a bit disorganized, but it turned out to be polite and attentive, possibly due to the restaurant also serving hotel guests. However, the time from arrival to receiving the meal was over an hour, so it might be challenging for those with a big appetite. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience. Thank you for the meal.

It's still 4:00 PM! We were wandering around looking at cherry blossoms everywhere and got really hungry. My partner and I searched around from Akanko and ended up here where we had been before. It's now 4:30 PM. Unfortunately, the evening session starts at 5:00 PM. Should we go to Kushiro or wait here? My indecisive partner. They seem to be concerned about the variety of the menu here. In the end, we decided to wait until the restaurant opened. We were the first ones in. I wonder if there are people who made reservations? The seats by the window facing the zoo were all set up to serve dishes quickly. My partner took a while to decide after looking at the menu. Finally, they chose the Japanese medicinal cuisine set. I went for the Hanashinobu set. Since both of us ordered set menus, I thought it might take a while for the food to come out. But for now, there are no other customers, so maybe not? The food arrived in just over 10 minutes! The set meals are indeed visually appealing! My Hanashinobu set included seafood bowl, chicken soba, tempura, chawanmushi, sautéed burdock root, pumpkin pudding. My partner's set included salmon flake rice, simmered pork, sashimi, konjac salad, mixed vegetables, tofu with black vinegar, miso soup. I started with the soba! The green tea soba was delicious. The dipping sauce wasn't as strong as in a soba restaurant, but it was tasty. The tempura was crispy. The sautéed burdock root was crunchy and tasty. The chawanmushi was okay. The seafood bowl had small pieces of fish but a good variety. My only complaint would be the portion size, it wasn't enough (laughs). My partner seemed satisfied and full. We enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the feast.

A stylish and cozy Western-style restaurant where you can bring your dog! The omurice and mushroom hamburger were amazing. The cute background music in the restaurant is soothing and heartwarming.
