There is still a distance to Jozankei, so after visiting the winery, we made a reservation for blueberry picking at Kurihara Blueberry Hill. It is located 54 kilometers from Sapporo Station to Yoichi IC by car on the expressway. It opens every year from mid-July to mid-August. It features around 1200 blueberry bushes, large chestnut trees, hammocks on the hilltop, abundant nature, and a view of the sea. Entrance fee for adults is 500 yen, and a souvenir pack (250g) costs 600 yen. We called ahead to Kurihara and made a reservation for 6 people to visit around 4 pm on August 6th. When we arrived, we were greeted by the kind-hearted grandpa we had imagined from his voice on the phone. The fourth photo is of Grandpa Kurihara. There are 13 varieties of blueberries grown, so walk around and aim for the ripe, large berries to eat! If you want souvenirs, bring a bucket and pick the large berries while eating! All the blueberries are sweet, with a natural acidity that is just right and delicious! They are grown without pesticides, so they are safe and reliable. There were a few bugs, but they were not bothersome. The view from the top of the hill was great, and after eating the blueberries, the effect was such that we could see far into the distance. Bringing your own lunch is allowed, and Grandpa Kurihara said it was okay to stay all day, eat blueberries while lounging in the hammock on the hill. After listening to Grandpa Kurihara's stories for about an hour, we enjoyed blueberry picking. When we poured the blueberries we picked into a sieve to remove leaves and bugs before putting them in the souvenir pack, Grandpa Kurihara commented that there were a lot of small berries. He said that Dad and I did not have the talent for blueberry picking. Oh no! Thank you for the delicious blueberries.
