When I visited this area, I heard there was a ranch cafe, so I decided to check it out. This company, which also operates forestry, built a stylish yet warm cafe using their own wood. The menu only offers several types of gelato and apple juice, but since I came for the gelato, that's fine with me. I opted for their recommended "homemade milk" gelato. It was a refreshing gelato with the gentle sweetness and warmth of milk. While I usually go for unique flavors, I thought milk would be the perfect choice since I was at a ranch. Others in my group ordered rum raisin, homemade chocolate ice cream, and we all tried a bit of each. They were all simple yet delicious, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. I ended up getting some for takeout, including the tasty homemade milk, rum raisin, and premium vanilla. I tried the premium vanilla first, and it had an elegant aroma and a creamy texture without being too rich. The ranch's cows were all grazing freely on the vast grounds, and it was a sight to see them coming down from the hill in the evening. There were also adorable little goats near the cafe, munching on grass at a rapid pace. It was a lovely experience to enjoy gelato in nature, away from the everyday hustle.

I found this restaurant while having lunch at a soup curry restaurant in Niseko, through an article in the "HO" magazine by Plant Magazine. I often ride along Route 5 on my motorcycle tours, but I never realized there were ice cream and even a ranch in this area. When I input the phone number into my bike's navigation system, it led me to JR Ozawa Station. The Mita Ranch is located behind Ozawa Station, but since I couldn't go through the station, I checked Google Maps and found a small path extending from the end of a footbridge over the Hakodate Main Line nearby. However, the navigation system didn't recognize this path, so I ended up being guided to the station (laughs). I followed the narrow path and reached the ranch buildings, where a brand-new building stood at the far end, with a microbus parked outside. I parked my bike in the parking lot and entered the bright interior, where counter seats were set up to overlook the path leading to the ranch on a small hill. They sold cup ice cream and gelato, with five flavors of gelato: homemade milk, dark chocolate, strawberry milk, homemade rum raisin, and rich matcha. You could choose between a single or double scoop. I chose a double scoop of homemade milk and homemade rum raisin, which was beautifully served by a male staff member. The homemade milk had a refreshing taste that wasn't just plain milk, with an added something that made it delicious but also intriguing. The homemade rum raisin seemed like it could turn into an adult gelato if you added some brandy. "Wow, both are delicious," I thought. I couldn't savor the delicious treats slowly, and before I knew it, I had finished them. I mentioned to the male staff that I hadn't even noticed the existence of the Mita Ranch, to which he informed me that it was celebrating its 120th anniversary this year and is the oldest existing privately-owned ranch in Hokkaido. They add value to their own-produced milk by making gelato.

Today, I purchased this ice cream made with milk produced in the vicinity of Iwanai Town. I prefer milk-based ice creams over vanilla ones because I find vanilla too sweet and rich. This ice cream has a strong milk flavor and is very delicious. When in Hokkaido, you can't miss out on seafood, meat, and dairy products, as they are all abundant here.

An idle old cat went out of his way to come here just for the tunnel mochi at first. He took the train and paid a high fare to get there. What a silly cat he is, driven by his appetite. But compared to the big shot from Ohtsuk, who frequently visits Sapporo, he still has a lot of training to do, don't you think? He bought the tunnel mochi, raised funds at the post office, and then went into the neighboring store with the sign for Mita Ice. And there it was! They had various flavors, so he bought vanilla and rum raisin. The rum raisin had a light, adult taste, while the vanilla was on the lighter side. The area around Kozawa Station may not have many people around, but surprisingly, he made a nice discovery.

When I went to Piccolo Modena Sapporo Satsueki store, I ordered a dessert. I wanted to have the rum raisin flavor, but there was only one left, so I ended up getting matcha flavor. I'm not a big fan of matcha, but this was incredibly delicious! I was so impressed. When I asked the cute staff at the shop, they told me it was ice cream from Kyowa-cho, Iwanai-gun. I looked it up when I got home and found out that you can order it online, but the shipping cost makes it quite expensive. It seems like it's only available at Piccolo Modena Sapporo Satsueki store and Sugihara Shouten in Sapporo. If I'm ever nearby, I will definitely stop by!

Vanilla Ice Cream -> 300 yen (made with natural vanilla extract from France) Low-temperature pasteurization is used to preserve the original flavor of the milk, using plenty of freshly squeezed raw milk. Furthermore, no sugar, corn syrup, egg yolks, or preservatives are used, and they are committed to focusing on the taste of the ingredients. This increases expectations. When I received it, it was still rock solid, but due to the hot weather that day, it started melting soon after opening the lid, so I took a bite right away. Wow!! Delicious!! The flavor of the vanilla slowly spreads, sweet and rich but not overpowering. And the texture is very smooth, like licking soft serve ice cream. Other flavors include matcha (Uji matcha), rum raisin (homemade, soaked for several months), milk, and strawberry milk. I found a wonderful place that is dedicated to making ice cream with a thorough commitment! I will definitely visit again. For those who are not fond of bugs, be careful of the numerous spider webs everywhere... There are also many insects flying around the entrance to the cowshed, but the cows inside were cute! The location is in Kuwa-cho, Iwanai-gun, on Route 5 from Kuwa-cho towards Kutchan-cho, passing through JR Ozawa Station and crossing a small bridge immediately. Turn left at the signboard for Mita Ranch on the left after crossing the bridge. Proceed on the unpaved road until you see the building straight ahead. The cowshed is on the right, the ice cream shop is on the left. The owner's residence is on the opposite side of the cowshed. If you don't see anyone, there is a small buzzer labeled "For ice cream" on the left side of the pick-up window, so give it a push! If they still don't come, let's go to the house to call them (laughs). Parking is available, and it seems to be run by a very young couple and their employees.

When I went to the Sweets Festa at Wing Bay, I also visited the Mita Farm booth. Normally they only sell ice cream, but for this event they had soft serve as well. Hmm... what should I do? I decided to go with the ice cream because I wanted to enjoy it at home. There were various flavors, but I chose the strawberry milk. I just tried it a moment ago. It's so smooth and creamy! The milk flavor is rich, and the addition of strawberry flavor makes it delicious. The aftertaste is refreshing and doesn't make you thirsty. It was so tasty and satisfying! Thank you for the meal!

I received "MITA ICE" (matcha) from "piccolo MODENA Sapporo Station Front Store" and it was unexpectedly delicious. When I searched on "Tabelog", I found that it was registered so I decided to leave a review. The ice cream, taken out from the freezer, was rock hard and took some time to melt. There was no choice in flavors, only matcha, but the balance between the slightly sweet, creamy milk flavor and matcha was perfect and it was incredibly tasty. I shared a small ice cream with a few friends and it turned into a big disaster because it was so good. I will definitely visit this place when I go to Iwanai. Thank you for the treat.

I received this ice cream. Suddenly, I received a message from my husband's sister saying, "I sent you ice cream, so try it." I was waiting, wondering what was going on. Six cups of 130ml milk-only ice cream from Hokkaido's Mita Ranch arrived. It was ice cream from a ranch I had never heard of before. When I thanked her and tried it right away, it was delicious!! The milk flavor was rich, the sweetness was moderate, and it had a refreshing aftertaste, without egg yolks or corn syrup, it had a smooth and soft-serve ice cream-like texture. It was my favorite type of ice cream. When I called my sister to thank her, I said, "It was so delicious, the milk flavor was so rich." She replied, "I know. It was so delicious that I wanted everyone to try it." She explained that when she visited Hokkaido, she stopped by the ranch because a friend of a friend owned it. I was so impressed by the deliciousness that I shared it with my daughters. They also said it was delicious. They even recommended it to a friend who is planning a trip to Hokkaido soon. The ingredients are basically fresh milk, fresh cream, and condensed milk, and it costs around 350 yen per cup. It's quite large for a cup ice cream. It might be difficult to stop by the ranch's direct sales store during a trip, as it's a two-hour drive from Sapporo. According to their website, you can purchase it at limited locations other than the ranch's direct sales store. If you have the chance, please try it. It seems you can also order it online (milk, vanilla, rum raisin assortment), although there will be shipping fees. It was an ice cream that I wanted to try again. There are many Hokkaido ice creams and ice creams directly delivered from ranches, so if my sister hadn't sent it, I wouldn't have known about it. I am grateful to my husband's sister. I want to support this delicious ice cream made by young people using good milk, and I would love to try it on-site someday.
