In August, I returned to Sapporo and I am enjoying all that Sapporo has to offer. I visited a farm produce direct sales store, had soup curry, conveyor belt sushi, ramen, and crispy chicken cartilage. I also tried sushi outside of the market and enjoyed more soup curry. For tonight's snack, I chose this place: Kotarou and Ya Kattepri store in Sapporo. I tried their specialty, half-fried chicken. It cost 980 yen. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a simple salt seasoning that brought out the flavor of the chicken. It had a different texture depending on the part you ate. I heated it up in the microwave and then toasted it before eating. It was a delicious snack to have with my evening drink.

On the second day of my one night, two day whirlwind trip from Hakodate to Sapporo, I headed north and entered Sapporo to meet up with my colleagues for dinner. Before that, while shopping around, I came across "Naruto" in Otaru. It had been a while since I had tried it, so I decided to give it a go. When you think of "Naruto," you think of half-fried fish, but since I was going to have sushi later, I opted for something lighter and bought four pieces of "Zangi." My son and I each had two at the counter next to the shop. Each piece was huge! The flavor just burst in your mouth! It was delicious!

I came to Hokkaido for a trip and visited a place that serves a specialty of Otaru, which is the half-fried fish. I saw it on Minosan's TV show and it caught my interest, so I decided to try it. It's really big, weighing around 500 grams each. I bought two and ate one in the car with a friend. It has a crispy salty exterior and a tender inside, which was delicious. However, because it's quite oily, it may not be suitable for eating in the car. We ended up getting our hands oily and wished we had brought some wet wipes. It was very filling and tasty.

The response for the children's souvenirs was great. There is an eat-in space. I received a sample and thought I would like to try it next time. I should have reheated it because it was a bit disappointing as it was. I really wanted to eat it hot and freshly fried. I will try it next time. Thank you for the meal.

- Otaru Narutoya is famous for its half-fried young chicken. It has been featured on nationwide TV programs multiple times.
- On the 15th of every month, they have a special deal called "Zangi Day" where you can get 5 pieces of zangi for 550 yen instead of 650 yen.
- Zangi is seasoned with salt and ginger for a tasty treat! The skin is crispy while the inside is juicy and delicious! By the way, zangi is similar to chicken nuggets. Some people argue whether they are the same or not, but personally, I think they are. Thank you for the meal!

Naruto in Kattepri is a great place known for their delicious half-fried dishes like zangi. Their onigiri and rice bowls are also tasty. The zangi in the zangi curry is thinly sliced, making it easy to eat with the curry. The curry is served piping hot and the rice is just the right texture. The portions are quite generous, making it very good value for money.

On Sunday, I wandered around Shin-Sapporo and visited the growing "Otaru Naruto" shop. This shop is well-known for its famous "half-fried chicken". I decided to try their "chicken rice ball" for 290 yen. When I got home and ate it, I found that it had a homemade look to it. The soy sauce flavor was subtle, and the chicken flavor had soaked into the rice, making it delicious. I could easily eat three or four of these. It was much better than the half-fried chicken. I definitely want to eat this again. Thank you for the meal.

It's a place in Atsubetsu-ku, located on the basement floor of Aeon Katipuri Shin-Sapporo in Shin-Sapporo. For more detailed directions, please check the floor map on the Katipuri website. I recently tried to buy half-fried chicken at a shop in Otaru, but there was a long line for parking and I was told there was a wait of over 30 minutes, so I gave up. This time, I decided to try this shop for a second chance. I parked my car in a shared parking lot, took the elevator down to the basement floor, and headed to the shop. There was a line of 2-3 people here as well. I bought the classic "young chicken half-fried" and "zangi" with the standard 5 pieces each, and returned home. Back at home, I warmed up the "young chicken half-fried" in the microwave first. I divided it into 3 pieces and enjoyed it, as it had a good salty seasoning perfect for beer. Next, I warmed up the "zangi" in the microwave before eating. It has a ginger soy sauce flavor, which also pairs well with beer. While Kentucky Fried Chicken and Chicken McNuggets are good, sometimes "young chicken half-fried" and "zangi" are a nice change.

I used it for lunch on 30/7/11. It is located in the basement of the KATEPRI building at Shin-Sapporo Station. "Otaru Narutoya," a fried chicken shop famous for its half-fried chicken in Otaru, but this shop also serves deli dishes in the Shin-Sapporo station building, and this shop is the only one with an eat-in corner. So I went to try it out. The shop had seating around the kitchen on two sides, with a sales corner on another side. The menu includes bento boxes, bowls, curry, etc. using Zangi. For now, I ordered the Zangi bento for 600 yen. I thought it would be served right away, but I had to wait for 2-3 minutes. It seems like they were reheating it. Finally, it arrived when I sat down at the eat-in corner. The contents were simple: fried chicken, pickles, potato salad, and rice. That's it. The fried chicken was cut into 5 pieces. The taste was as expected from a specialty shop. The outside was crispy, and the inside was juicy and delicious. The thin batter was not soggy, which I liked. That's it. I would like to try the half-fried chicken someday, but it seems difficult to eat in. The end.

I have lost count of how many times I have visited this place. The half-fried chicken is highly recommended but I have yet to try it. I always buy their Zangi, which I discovered by chance at a supermarket. It was from a famous shop, and the difference in taste was noticeable. Since then, it has become my favorite place. They have opened a branch at Sanpiazza, making it even more convenient for me to buy their food. Although there are more and more similar shops in the area, I have not tried their set meals yet. The Zangi here has a light oiliness and a subtle flavor. It's like a refined version of Zangi. Is it better than the one from Hotei-san's shop? Maybe I should try the half-fried chicken next time.

I arrived at the restaurant around noon on a regular day. I had never shopped here before because it was expensive. However, after the renovation, they started offering bento boxes, curry, and rice bowls in addition to their usual items like zangi and half-fried chicken, so I decided to give it a try this time! There were two female staff members. I ordered the "Zangi Curry" (640 yen) this time. The "Chicken Curry" was cheaper at 380 yen, but I wanted to try something different. They told me it would take about 10 minutes, which I agreed to. During that time, I wandered around nearby shops like "Kita Kitchen" and "Yoshimoto Entertainment Shop." When I presented my receipt at the counter for pick-up, they actually brought my order to me! It was a nice gesture that made me happy. I moved to the eat-in counter at the back of the store. First, I tried the zangi... it was juicy, well-seasoned, and delicious as expected! And the curry was... rich, flavorful, and delicious! It was slightly spicy, more than medium heat, and had a spicy kick. It tasted like beef curry, but maybe the sauce is different from the "Chicken Curry"? No, that can't be right... There were pieces of onion and leftover meat in it. It was even more delicious than I had expected. The curry was also not to be underestimated! Next time, I might try the "Zangi Don" perhaps.

This pack contains two rice balls with minced chicken, carrots, and a savory soy sauce-based seasoning. The chicken flavor is prominent, and the sweet and savory taste is quite delicious.
▼Impressions▼
Naruto-ya is a chain restaurant established by the third generation of the famous Naruto restaurant in Otaru known for its fried half chicken. With over 10 locations mainly in Otaru and Sapporo, the restaurant is popular for its signature fried chicken dishes. The Cateppuri branch, which opened in December 2016, offers an eat-in area. I tried the chicken rice balls this time, and although I didn't have high expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich chicken flavor and umami. However, the fried half chicken is their specialty, so I look forward to trying it again soon.

First visit after the renovation on April 15, 2017. Today's second snack is here! Although there was a shop before the floor renovation, this place has been completely renewed as well! It was a coincidence, but on the 15th, it was 100 yen off for karaage at Otaru Narutoya Kattepri store. Of course, I had to buy it! I reheated it in the oven at home. Narutoya's karaage has a good reputation. It has a consistent taste that I like! It was indeed a tasty snack with a crispy outside and juicy inside. The price is a bit high, but today was 100 yen off, so it was worth it. Out of 5 pieces, I ate 3! It's a great snack for good sake. It's been a while since I had Narutoya's zangi. Sometimes, this type of zangi is also good. Today, I had delicious snacks and enjoyed delicious sake! Hokkaido is truly a treasure trove of food. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

Otaru's famous half-fried chicken takeout specialty store, "Otaru Narutoya Kattepri Store," has reopened in the newly renovated Kattepri in Shin-Sapporo. The store is located on the B1 floor and offers a variety of menu items including the famous half-fried chicken, zangi bento, zangi curry, zangi donburi, chicken rice bowl, and chicken rice onigiri. The half-fried chicken is a must-try, with a variety of cuts and a delicious seasoning of salt and pepper or the secret sauce. The portion is satisfying, and it pairs well with beer. The store also has an eat-in corner, so you can enjoy your meal while it's still warm. Overall, it's a great option to enjoy Otaru's specialty without having to travel all the way there.

Today in December 2016, I visited New Sapporo with a friend to do some leisurely shopping. We visited Katapuri, Sanpiazza, and Dio, and had a great time looking around. At first, I found New Sapporo to be a bit complex and difficult to navigate, but today everything seemed to fall into place. One thing that surprised me was the high cost of parking. We stayed for about 5 hours, and once you go beyond the 3-hour free range, the parking fee is around 350 yen per hour. It would be nice to have some more services considering the size of this shopping center, as we wanted to take our time shopping. For our evening drink, we bought 5 pieces of chicken rice balls and 5 pieces of fried chicken here. The half-fried chicken is made from domestic chicken, while the fried chicken is made from Brazilian chicken. The chicken fried chicken made from thigh meat had a firm texture and was not too heavily seasoned. Each piece was quite substantial. The chicken rice ball had plenty of chicken soboro, burdock, and carrots mixed into the firm rice. I enjoyed the cooking texture and the light seasoning. Thank you for the meal! ✿ฺ(๑´ڡ`๑)✿ฺ

[Take-out] A shop specializing in fried chicken dishes from Otaru, which became famous for its fried chicken half, inspiring many other shops in Hokkaido to copy the same product. This shop will have its grand opening on December 16 at the Aeon Katipuri Shin-Sapporo, directly connected to JR Shin-Sapporo Station and the Tozai Subway Line. The shop is located on the basement floor of Katipuri, inside Prichika DELI. I visited the shop for the first time on December 12 at 4 pm. They used to have a temporary shop in the late stages of Katipuri, but this time they have a proper store. This year, it seems like there will be a fierce battle between Chicken Packer, Kentucky, and this shop. When it comes to Otaru, it's all about fried chicken half and fried chicken, but this shop also offers a variety of bento options. This time, I bought two chicken rice balls for 290 yen. The rice balls were made with flavorful soy sauce seasoned rice with a sweet and savory chicken soboro filling. They were quite delicious and to my liking.

I bought some Zangi because it was cheap. It was pretty tasty. The Zangi was light and slightly large, with a fluffy texture, and the main seasoning was ginger. It's better as a snack with drinks rather than as a side dish for rice.

We went to Narutoya in Sapporo. When there are two people, we usually let my wife decide on the restaurant, but today she had no plan at all. She just wanted to go to a hot spring. Since we came for my wife's errands, I didn't mind. I searched for a place that would be easy to earn money, and found that Shin-Sapporo might be a good option. My wife's only wish was to go to a hot spring, so we decided to head to Chitose. There were not many reviews on Catapri, but I found Narutoya in my notes. When we arrived, there was no one there except a man cooking in the kitchen. I apologized and asked what was good. My wife said she only wanted zangi. I suggested fried chicken neck, and she agreed. It took 15 minutes, and the man told us it was ready. My wife, who had wandered off for less than 10 minutes, came back saying it seemed ready. But it couldn't have been ready in 15 minutes. When we finally got the food, the appearance was a bit scary, but we tried it and found it surprisingly delicious. It was a bit salty and more like a side dish for alcohol rather than rice. The meat was good and had a spicy kick to it. It was a good accompaniment to beer, although it may not be the healthiest option due to the bones. Overall, we thought it was delicious and it was the first thing we enjoyed at Narutoya.
