In June 2021, I visited a small hut along National Route 229 in Shakotan, where fresh sea urchin (250g) was being sold for 4000 yen. The hut appeared suddenly in the midst of Shakotan's great nature. The sea urchin fisherman's direct sales shop was not always crowded, and it was a bit difficult to find as you had to call ahead (>_<"). After hesitating for a few years, I finally mustered up the courage to stop by on my way back to Sapporo. To my surprise, the entrance was open! Inside, workers were busy shucking sea urchin shells, and they were also selling the freshly shucked sea urchin from Shakotan for 4000 yen for 250g. It was freshly caught in the morning and tasted delicious. Normally, a pack of 100g sea urchin would cost 2200 yen at other stores, so getting 2.5 times the amount for this price was a great deal. The sea urchins were large, sweet, and tasty. I even felt like I could call ahead next time. Thank you for the delicious meal! (^ω^)
