Wandering new curry mania / rookie ramen mania, a solo middle-aged man. This is a memo-like review from the old man. If you are looking for concise information about the restaurant and food, please move on to other people's reviews around here. Hmm... the list of potential restaurants to visit is getting shorter. Places that only offer evening service or evening menus, or seem to not have fried rice as a standalone dish, will be excluded from this round. If I want to extend the distance of my cycling activity, I might consider a restaurant in Shiroishi-ku. It looks like it will be around 20km round trip. But here's the thing. It's unclear if they offer fried rice for lunch. Looking at the menu images from previous visitors, I'm not sure. Well, let's set out and see. Just as I set out, it started raining... I'm wearing a windbreaker with a hood and I can see breaks in the clouds, so I thought I could make it, but then it started pouring. I took shelter from the rain for less than 10 minutes, and then the sun came out again. I set out again, but this time the wind picked up... Oh well! I guess I'll switch to a nearby restaurant. The location is in Chuo-ku, Odori Nishi 24-chome. There's a "Sapporo Food Center" nearby on the corner. The nearest station is the Tozai Line's Maruyama Koen Station, coming out from exit 5. Head east (towards the TV Tower) and take a left at the corner of the aforementioned food center. I'm coming from Nishi-ku, so it will be along the side street next to Triton on Kitagojo, heading towards Odori (North 1 Jo, Miyanosawa Street). The "kindergarten" on this narrow street is where I used to take the bus over half a century ago. (I transferred to another school shortly after starting elementary school). Over 50 years ago, the surroundings, including the scenery back then, are all gone... The gravel road that used to be there is now paved, and the wooden single-story kindergarten building has been replaced by a "building." Well, that's to be expected. As for entering the restaurant, it was around 11:50 am on a Saturday. Inside, there are 4 counter seats on the right side of the entrance and 5 table seats on the left. The table seats can be adjusted according to the number of customers. It seems to turn into an "izakaya" at night. There were two regulars (middle-aged and senior men) and one solo customer (middle-aged man) when I arrived. They all seemed to have a friendly relationship with the owner and staff. Looking at the menu, during lunchtime, they mainly offer "exquisite fried rice varieties," "various ramen," and "set menus." They also serve "pork curry" and "pork bowl." Oh, the "exquisite fried rice" comes in 6 different variations in terms of ingredients and seasoning, with one exception, all priced at 550 yen including tax! (Please check the menu images for the variations) It's quite affordable! I remember that even the "regular size" has a decent amount of food. So, I'll go for the most expensive one today without opting for the "extra-large." ▼ The "Meaty Fried Rice" costs 800 yen including tax. The "Meaty Fried Rice" is basically the "mixed fried rice" topped with "salted kalbi meat." The dish was served in about 10 minutes after ordering. Oh, as expected, even the "regular size" has quite a generous portion. In addition, the salted kalbi meat adds a good volume to it. It looks quite appetizing. Alright, since it was a bit chilly due to the strong wind, I'll start with the soup. Hmm... I can't analyze/explain the broth, but it was quite tasty. It was nice to warm up and relax a bit. When it comes to "fried rice," even if it tastes delicious at the beginning, as you eat more, the umami and saltiness can become monotonous. In such cases, it's helpful to have a tasty soup to refresh your palate. Now let's try a spoonful of the "mixed fried rice." Oh, when you break the mountain, it seems a bit moist, but when you taste it, it's light and fluffy. There's no unpleasant greasiness from the frying oil. The ingredients like ham, scrambled eggs, and kamaboko are quite plentiful. Ah... but I can understand why the previous customer wanted to add a punch by sprinkling some "pepper." However, it's definitely not bad. Of course, it might be a bit salty for some...
