The founder of the famous coffee shop "Hyakumeiten 2021, 2022 Hirao Coffee Shop," Chuzaburo Ogawa, was born in 1887 as the second son of a family that ran a soy sauce brewery in Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture. Despite inheriting the family business, Chuzaburo was drawn to the taste of coffee and donuts he experienced in Ginza during his trips between Tokyo and Kisarazu. As a result, he decided to open a coffee shop instead of continuing the family business. In 1921, Hirao Coffee Shop was born. When I visited in May, these were the prices: - "Hyakunen Coffee" for 480 yen: A rich coffee with a focus on Guatemala, it has a wonderful aroma. The acidity is not too strong, and the aroma enhances the overall experience, making it more mellow than bitter. - "Hyakunen Donut" for 200 yen: I was served a warm hard donut that has been passed down since the shop's founding. Despite being labeled as a hard donut, it was not as expected - it was crispy, fluffy, with a subtle sweetness, a simple yet truly delicious treat. I enjoyed the deep flavors of the hundred-year-old history that have been passed down.

Founded in 1921, this is the oldest surviving coffee shop in Osaka. It has been selected as one of the top 100 coffee shops. The shop itself is quite small. This time, I tried their special menu items to celebrate their centennial anniversary - the "100-year coffee" and "100-year donut". Honestly, the coffee was just average and the donut was very hard and dry. However, the simple flavors somehow complemented each other well, leaving me somewhat satisfied after the meal. Maybe it's the weight of history...

I visited this charming café on my way home from Shinsaibashi, and it had a nostalgic atmosphere both inside and out. When I arrived, there was only one empty seat, and it quickly filled up with customers being turned away every 10 minutes or so due to its popularity. The staff were very friendly and even gave me permission to take photos when I asked. I ordered the "Hyakunen Coffee" and the "Hyakunen Donut," both of which have been cherished recipes since the café first opened. The donut was light and the coffee had a rich aroma that paired perfectly. I was very satisfied with my experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

When I visited last year, Hiraoka Coffee Shop was only doing takeout. It was close to my hotel, so on my last day, I went straight there after checking out, waiting for it to open (lol). I had an iced coffee and a hundred-year-old donut for breakfast. When I visited at the end of last year, the owner was dressed in traditional Japanese clothing and I got to sit by the window. The iced coffee was ¥500, and the coffee float was ¥600, which was a great deal, so if it wasn't morning, I would have definitely chosen the coffee float. The donut was ¥250, slightly sweet, and quite dry. It wasn't the typical heavy donut, but had a nostalgic lightness to it. Since the donut was lighter than I expected, I used some syrup in my iced coffee. We were waiting for the shop to open, so there were no other customers when we arrived, but 10 minutes after opening, all the seats were full, including the counter. With the polite service and demeanor of the owner, my review also became more polite than usual, but I successfully had my revenge with an eat-in experience. Thank you for the meal!

Visited a coffee shop that has been in business for over 100 years in Honcho for the first time. Nestled between office buildings, this quaint café has been serving its own roasted coffee and homemade donuts since the Taisho era. When I visited on a weekday afternoon, there were no other customers, so I was lucky. The interior has remained unchanged from the past, exuding a calm atmosphere with only the ticking of a clock as background music. I ordered the 100-Year Coffee Ice Cream for 500 yen. The dark roasted iced coffee had a perfect balance of bitterness and a refreshing aftertaste, making it a delightful drink that also pairs well with milk. Amidst the hustle and bustle of office workers on a weekday afternoon, the peaceful time spent in silence was truly a blissful moment.

I visited a small coffee shop near the hotel! The shop has a limited number of seats and specializes in coffee. The friendly owner welcomed me. It was a hot day, so I ordered an iced coffee. I also tried their recommended donuts! I chose the most basic one from the three options. My companion had a coffee float - iced coffee with vanilla ice cream on top. The coffee was refreshing and the donuts were slightly warm on the outside and moist on the inside. They paired well with the coffee. A treat in the midst of the city.

I was looking for a place to have tea nearby and decided to visit this place as it was selected as one of the Top 100 Stores in 2022. The interior of the store was slightly different from what I had imagined, with a unique atmosphere. I tried their century-old coffee and century-old donuts. The coffee was quite delicious. The donuts were traditional fried donuts. It's not a place where you can linger for a long time, but I think it's good for those who simply want to enjoy their coffee.

After the Obon holiday, I visited this coffee shop that has a long history and was happy to see that the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. A foreign female staff member was wearing a kimono (or maybe a hakama) behind the counter, receiving the support of the owner. I ordered a donut and a cold brew coffee. The freshly brewed coffee was poured into a chilled shaker, rapidly cooled with ice. The sound of shaking the shaker was refreshing. The iced coffee had a crisp bitterness and a rich aroma. It paired perfectly with the donut. The owner and the staff member were discussing Japanese culture, which I found fascinating. It seems like it would be fun to come back and chat with the owner from time to time.

Hello! It's Ramen Walking here! Today is Cafe Day, and I visited Hirao Coffee Shop in Honmachi to try their "Hyakunen Coffee." This historic cafe, established in 1920, was a great find during my lunch break. I arrived at 12:35 and luckily found a seat at the counter. I ordered the recommended items and enjoyed the atmosphere of the cafe, which had a nice blend of history and modernity with brick-tile exterior and wooden interior. My order arrived in 3 minutes: Hyakunen Coffee Ice (500 yen) and Hyakunen Donut (250 yen). The Hyakunen Coffee Ice was a classic blend with a mild aroma, easy to drink and paired well with the crispy, lightly sweet Hyakunen Donut. I didn't have time for lunch, but I was satisfied with the donut and coffee. Thank you, Hirao Coffee Shop! Today's steps: 15,543 steps. Calories burned: 564 kcal.

Cold brew coffee and "Hyakunen Donuts" (900 yen) with no waiting outside. A coffee shop that has been around for a hundred years. The atmosphere of the coffee shop feels like a trip back to the Taisho era. The wooden interior, reminiscent of a grandmother's house, exudes a sense of timeless history. The clock has been ticking for nearly a hundred years, marking the weight of history. The clientele is slightly older. It may be too quiet for a date. The coffee has a deep flavor and is delicious. The donuts are a bit dry and not to my taste.

Summer in Osaka is hot and humid. From the Royal Park Hotel Iconic, it's a 2-minute walk to this place. It has a retro vibe. I ordered: - Century Coffee Ice Cream for 500 yen - Century Donut for 250 yen The donut has a delayed sweetness that hits you later. It's a hard type, so I cut it with a fork and it's crispy. It has a simple and nostalgic feel. The Century Coffee Ice Cream is refreshing and easy to drink. It might be a bit light though. Cold-brew coffee is made by shaking it with ice to quickly chill it. This way, you can taste the richness of the coffee. I paid with PayPay. Thank you for the meal.

I found 百年珈琲 on Tabelog and really wanted to try their coffee, so I stopped by since I was nearby. The small shop with four tables had a nostalgic atmosphere filled with the wonderful aroma of coffee. I tried the 百年珈琲 (500 yen) and 百年ドーナツ (250 yen). The coffee had a rich flavor with a focus on Guatemala beans, and it was strong and robust. The donut had a nostalgic taste that reminded me of the past. The friendly service from the staff added to the wonderful experience, making it a truly relaxing time. Thank you for the meal.

Visited a historic cafe for the first time after a failed attempt due to a closed sign during my previous visit. The interior was old-fashioned, but the young staff caught me by surprise. I ordered a hot coffee and the signature 100-year-old donut. The coffee had a perfect balance of bitterness and acidity, which I enjoyed. However, the donut did not meet my high expectations. It was not overly sweet, focusing more on the natural taste of the ingredients. It was a bit tough to cut with a fork and lacked the freshness of a just-fried donut. The atmosphere of the cafe might appeal to some, but the lack of ambiance and the casual attitude of the young staff made it feel like just another old coffee shop to me.

Hiraoka Coffee Shop in Honmachi! I've always wanted to come here, but it's always crowded and there's usually a line outside. This time, I went in the morning and was able to get in without waiting! The shop only has 4 tables, so it seemed like they can only accommodate a small number of people. I wonder if they don't have counter seats? They have two types of donuts, fried and baked, and I chose the fried "Hyakunen Donuts". I prefer fried ones. They were delicious with a simple sweetness! They were dense and filled inside. The outside was slightly crispy. I had the "Hyakunen Coffee" as iced coffee, and it was also delicious. The shop had a calming atmosphere with wooden decor.

During a break, I visited this retro-style cafe which had a calming atmosphere. I arrived around 12:25 pm on a Saturday and there were no customers when I entered, but 9 customers arrived after me. I ordered a "Century Coffee Ice Cream (500 yen) + Century Donut (250 yen)". I originally wanted to have hot coffee, but the temperature was over 30°C, so I opted for ice cream instead. The coffee had a rich and deep bitterness, which I enjoyed. The Century Donut had a crispy outer texture with a sweet and fragrant taste, while the inside was moist. It had a nostalgic and delicious flavor. I was able to relax and enjoy the moment while enduring the heat. Thank you for the meal. When I left at 1:10 pm, there were 2 people waiting in line.

A century-old coffee shop selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog for 2021-2022. Established in 1921. - Cold Brew Coffee: 650 yen - Century Donut: 250 yen I wanted to try the cold brew coffee that is shaken in a shaker to quickly cool it down. The sound of the shaker echoing in the quiet shop made me feel cool just by hearing it. The century donut, a hard donut passed down since the establishment, has a subtle sweetness and an elegant taste. Enjoying coffee time while feeling the history is also nice. This is a longstanding coffee shop in the town. It's been in business for over a hundred years, hence the name "100". I tried their "Hundred Years Coffee" and "Hundred Years Donut". The donut had a nostalgic and simple deliciousness to it. The seating area is limited, with only four tables and a small counter. Maybe because it's Sunday today, but it was easy to get a seat in this coffee shop in the office district.

Moved from Kyoto to Osaka for more café hopping. Under the scorching sun, we headed straight to this place. The interior had a calm atmosphere with a wooden design. Despite the limited seating, it was fully occupied. Luckily, a seat by the window happened to be available. We ordered their famous "Hundred-Year Coffee" (500 yen) and "Hundred-Year Donut" (250 yen). The coffee had almost no acidity, with a strong bitterness that I personally enjoy. It had a clean and easy-to-drink aftertaste. The donut was served warm on a matching plate with the cup. It had a simple taste that paired well with the bitter coffee. The lovely old-fashioned café was run by a skilled and elegant couple, the gentleman with a craftsman-like aura and the lady with a Western charm.
