Welcome. ---------- September 2021 ----------I'm back again this year in Oki Town. As always, the best place to stay is here. It's close to the main street (although there are only a few shops along the national highway...), so you can easily walk back even if you get a little drunk. At night, I went to "Hamadori," and for breakfast, they serve freshly cooked rice from 6:30 am. It's a hearty meal with plenty of miso soup (instant seaweed miso soup), half a grilled mackerel as the main dish, side dishes (prosciutto, imitation crab sticks), fried eggs (also available with natto), macaroni salad (from a bulk pack), and finished with some mentaiko. The variety seems to have decreased a bit... but after the meal, you can enjoy all-you-can-drink Koi Kei red tea. See you again next year.

Welcome. ---------- September 2020 ---------- This is a ryokan that I have been visiting every year. One night stay with one meal included costs 5000 yen including tax. It's located right in the bustling area, so it's perfect for going out drinking. Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 7:30. This year, they changed from buffet style to small dishes style. You can have seconds of rice and miso soup with seaweed. The big jar gets empty quickly as everyone takes from it. They serve salmon, mackerel, simmered mackerel in miso, braised pork, rolled omelette, potato salad, Chinese salad, burdock root simmered in dashi, marinated cod roe, pickles, and pickled plum. The TKG (tamago kake gohan) was a failure. You can get the energy you need for the morning.

Welcome. ---------- September 2018 ----------An apartment-like facade off Route 236 near the Michi-no-Eki, with a feeling of a ryokan or pension. Payment is required in advance. It was around 7,500 yen per person for one night with two meals, or 5,000 yen per person for one night with breakfast included. The room is clean and could pass for a business hotel in town. There is a fee for the alcohol in the room (of course). After 10 PM, the front door becomes auto-locked, so make sure to get a card key from the front desk. There are several dining options along the national highway, with a convenience store right nearby. The breakfast buffet starts at 6:30 AM in the dining area next to the front desk. The son of the owner is cooking and is very friendly and talkative. The buffet includes eggs, natto, salted mackerel, Vienna sausages, sliced herring, squid salted guts, pickled radish with dried daikon, shirasu simmered in sweet sauce, hijiki simmered, and more. The freshly cooked white rice is sticky and delicious, with tofu skin miso soup and TKG (raw egg over rice) as well. You can eat up to three bowls of rice comfortably. Make sure not to laze around too much in your room until check-out at 10 AM, or you might oversleep. Thank the staff as you are escorted out by the owner, and head back home. Thank you very much.
