Hokkaido, Abira Town. When you look at the map, it is located southeast of Sapporo, right next to Chitose City. It became "Abira Town" through the municipal mergers in the Heisei era, and this is a small confectionery shop in the area of Hayakita. The shop is called "Hayakita Karins." I didn't visit Abira Town much, but this spring I heard that "the rapeseed flowers are beautiful!" so I went to see them, and they were indeed beautiful! The yellow rapeseed flowers formed a picturesque yellow carpet that continued endlessly in the rural landscape. While exploring the surrounding areas, I picked out some shops I wanted to visit (maybe I have the spirit of Tabelog? lol), and this shop was one of them. The exterior is like an old-fashioned "small town confectionery shop." It's a simple building that looks like a slightly larger house, with recommended products written on paper posted on the window. I like these old-fashioned confectionery shops as well, not just trendy patisseries. Originally, it was called "Okashi no Miyamoto," and the old shop name was still visible at the entrance. The recommended items are "Cheese Yokan," "Haskap Yokan," "Karins Jelly," and more. On that day, I bought "Haskap Yokan" and "Karins Jelly" as they have a longer shelf life and don't need to be eaten immediately. Oh, the packaging is so nostalgic!!! lol ● Karins Jelly The vivid Karins color is beautiful. A clear red color! Quite sweet. The taste is nostalgic as implied by the packaging. As you eat more, the sweetness becomes quite strong, making you crave tea. ● Haskap Yokan This one also has a sticky packaging lol Haskap is a local specialty fruit that can be found around here. When you peel off the blueberry-colored skin, a reddish fruit appears. Haskap, which has a strong acidity, is sweetened to make jam, sauce, etc., and I have tried those, but this is my first time trying Haskap Yokan! I thought it would be sweet like the jelly, so I ate it without much expectation, and... huh? huh?! This one is delicious! It comes in a plastic container like jelly, so I thought it would be a loose yokan with a lot of agar, but the texture is solid yokan. Looking at the ingredients, it contains Haskap pulp and juice. Although the acidity and aroma are not directly perceived, for some reason, it has a refreshing and light yokan. The red bean paste is light, and the sweetness is moderate. Yokan is generally a dense and heavy dessert that is best eaten slowly, but this Haskap Yokan is a bit lighter and has a new feeling among them. This creates a gap between the taste imagined from the Showa-era packaging and the actual taste, which is quite amusing lol. I have tried several wagashi and western sweets made with Haskap, but I have never come across a truly delicious one before... They go well with yogurt or soft serve, but when it comes to "sweets," many are too sweet. However, the combination with red bean paste is good (´∀`*) The yokan was delicious. It seems to have a good shelf life, so I will buy it again if I go nearby (^^) Oh, by the way, it seems that Kitasan Black, who became a hot topic after winning the Arima Kinen the other day, will retire and come to Abira Town!
