Visit date: June 25, 2022
On this day, my companion and I visited Shiranuka. After having a meal at another restaurant, we came to this place for our second stop, called Izakaya Otome. We arrived around 8 p.m. The previous customers were all regulars, sitting at the counter. There were a few other customers as well, all seemed to be familiar with each other.
Our order consisted of:
- Shishamo (smelt fish) - 700 yen
- Pork skewers (2 pieces) - 400 yen
- Draft beer - 600 yen
- Oolong tea - 400 yen
The shishamo was small-sized, with five pieces. The pork skewers were labeled as "Akanko" which I think means they were made with Akanko pork. Both were tasty but had a slightly frozen taste to them.
The appetizers were generous, including salad, boiled spinach, and zangi (fried chicken). The zangi had a slightly powdery texture but had a nostalgic taste reminiscent of supermarket deli food from the past.
The atmosphere was very casual, run by a friendly mama-san. The place was filled with locals, but there was no uncomfortable feeling of being an outsider. It felt more like, "Oh, I don't recognize that face," kind of vibe. The menu already felt like it was meant for a second stop, with ramen and other dishes available, but mainly focused on drinks and light snacks. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. Thank you for the meal.
